How to create an IBM I Series Device Description for IntelliBar Mi Series Printers Enter the create device print command, CRTDEVPRT in the operating system command line and prompt up on it.

The Device description is user defined, so you may name your IntelliBar printer as you wish. TESTPJL is only a place holder in this view. Enter the Device description you want to use. Set Device class to *LAN, Device type to 3812 and Device model to 1. Press enter.

Set LAN attachment to *IP. Press enter.

Set the Port number to 9100, set Font to 11 and set Form feed to *AUTOCUT. Press enter.

Set Printer error message to *INFO, so the printer will not time out if it runs out of paper or has another error condition. Page down.

Set the Inactivity timer to *SEC15, which will let the i Series share the printer with other computers or servers on the network. Press enter.

Set Manufacturer type and model to any of the following choices: *HP5, *HP4000 or *LEXOPTRAT. Page down.

Set Remote Location: Name or address setting: Enter the IntelliBar printer IP address. Set System driver program to *HPPJLDRV. Press enter to create the device and return to the Main Menu.

You still need to vary on the device and start the writer. To vary on the device type in the operating system command line WRKDEVD followed by the Device Description you created in the CRTDEVPRT settings and press enter. TESTPJL is only a place holder in this view. Press enter.

Enter option 8 and then enter option 1 to vary on the printer. The Status will change from VARIED OFF to VARIED ON. In the Parameters or command line type STRPRTWTR followed by the Device Description you created in the CRTDEVPRT settings. TESTPJL is only a place holder in this view. Press enter.

In the Parameters or command line type WRKOUTQ followed by the Device Description you created in the CRTDEVPRT settings. TESTPJL is only a place holder in this view. Press enter.

The Work with Output Queue window will display the RLS/WTR queue status in the upper right of the screen meaning that the writer is active. The first time you release a spool FILE to the printer it will post a message asking you to load paper. Enter G to respond to that message.
