How to Create an Infographic Using Autodesk Sketchbook Kristi Kosina April 6th, 2015 Purpose of the Evaluation Session. The purpose of this evaluation is to solicit feedback from my peers, who are fellow Education Technology graduate students and other online learners, so that I can decide whether or not to share my lesson with more online learners. They were to determine if my lesson, "How to Create an Infographic Using Autodesk Sketchbook," indeed followed through with its learning objective. Specifically, the participants evaluated the lesson's instructional effectiveness in teaching students how to use the mobile application, Autodesk Sketchbook, to create an infographic. The participants also critiqued the quality of the multimedia videos, the lesson format, and the structure and content of the guided lesson. This lesson can be found at https://edtc6323project.wordpress.com/learning-object-part-2/ . Evaluation Session User Profiles. Five online learners participated in the pilot study of "How to Create an Inforgraphic Using Autodesk Sketchbook." They accessed the course link, took the course, and then completed the corresponding survey. Each volunteer was an adult woman with at least a Bachelor's degree. Two of the volunteers were online students working toward their Master's degree in Education Technology. Three of the volunteers participated due to my social media request to participate. One of these volunteers from the social media request is an expert in electronic courseware development who works at Naval Air Station - Corpus Christi. One adult male, with at least a bachelor's degree, expressed interest in the course, but he ended up not completing the course and survey due to time constraints. Evaluation Session Location. Since this instructional unit is completely web-based, evaluation participants accessed and provided feedback online on their computer at the time and location of their convenience. Since the course is available online as an HTML5 file that was hosted on Google Drive and only the desktop computer functionality was optimized, participants were not able to complete this course on mobile devices anywhere. So, they had to find a laptop or desktop computer to complete this course. Three participants are located in three different cities in Texas and two of the participants are located in two different cities in Florida. Evaluation Methods. I created a survey that consisted of 48 likert style statements or paragraph comment boxes. There were six sections of the survey, which included questions about the lesson's videos, the lesson's content, the lesson's navigation, the lesson's review, the lesson's quiz, and the overall course experience. In the likert statements, the volunteers were asked to rate how much they agree or disagree with the statements, with "5" being "strongly agree" and "1" being "strongly disagree." A "3" was considered a neutral response. The comment boxes were located at the bottom of each section and these open-ended responses gave the volunteers an opportunity to voice any questions, comments, or concerns related to the questions in each section. Since there was only one lesson objective, all questions included help to assess how effective the course is in achieving it.

April 6th, 2015 Purpose of the Evaluation Session. This lesson can be found at https://edtc6323project.wordpress.com/learning-object-part-2/. In the likert statements, the volunteers were asked to rate how much they agree or disagree with the statements, with "5" being "strongly agree" and "1" being "strongly disagree." Reaction to Evaluation Results.

Page 5: How to Create an Infographic Using Autodesk Sketchbook ... fileHow to Create an Infographic Using Autodesk Sketchbook Kristi Kosina April 6th, 2015 Purpose of the Evaluation Session

1. Questions about the lesson's videos: I expected the results for the questions regarding the instructional videos to be positive overall and the results confirmed this hypothesis. Some of the comment results from other sections were included in the comment box for this section, so I will have to take those results and apply it to the proper areas of my course. This survey confusion was also to be expected since I have noticed before that people tend to wait until the first opportunity to write down comments to unload them. The suggestions that did relate to the instructional videos, such as the fast pace of the narration was a concern I had before conducting the pilot test.

2. Questions about the lesson's content: I was happy to see that the respondents' reactions to the lesson's content was overall positive. A few suggestion were made to help me improve the lesson, which I was pleased to see.

3. Questions about the lesson's navigation: I was happy to see that the respondents' reactions to the lesson's navigation was overall positive. I am pleased that they liked the feedback cues.

4. Questions about the lesson's review: The review included neutral to positive responses which suggested to me that people were not entirely pleased with the general overview that was provided. I somewhat expected this the review video is fairly short. I am pleased that some suggestions were also included to help me think about how to improve the review.

5. Questions about the quiz: The respondents were generally happy with the quiz so that pleased me. There were some technically and navigational issues that prevented a couple of people from passing the quiz. Some of the suggestions for these issues were ones that I have thought about like decreasing the button options that are not really necessary, like the forward and back buttons. Specifically, these buttons were kept in just in case they helped the students navigate the quiz. Though, it is clear that I will have to adjust either the instructions or the button options to help the learners progress more easily. I anticipated some of these issues.

6. Questions about the overall course experience: The respondents generally liked the course, learned from it, and felt they could apply it elsewhere in their life. I am pleased with the overall responses that the respondents provided.

Action Response and Revisions.

1. Questions about the lesson's videos: I will work on slowing down my pace and include more pauses within each of the videos in the next revision of my lesson.

2. Questions about the lesson's content: I will look at the steps for selecting tools within the third task of the lesson, which is "Inserting Text." One of the suggestions mentioned that there are some inconsistencies since this part of the lesson shows how to insert text

Page 6: How to Create an Infographic Using Autodesk Sketchbook ... fileHow to Create an Infographic Using Autodesk Sketchbook Kristi Kosina April 6th, 2015 Purpose of the Evaluation Session

for three different purposes. After the text is inserted, there is more than one way to edit it, so perhaps students may be confused on why the lesson goes in a copy different directions. Perhaps I can explain this better by stating that there are multiple ways to manipulate text. The other option would be to change the steps so that each of the text insertions and edits occur similarly. I think adding a message or note about this difference at the bottom of the slide that performs the text edits differently should suffice. As an instructional designer, I think learners should be made aware of multiple ways to complete the task at hand, since text is being inserting three times.

I will also create an image of the "Options" button in the forth task, so that learners will know what to look for instead of guessing. In the areas of the lesson that include a drag and drop interaction, I can probably add "signal" toward the small black text that appears after inserting text. The problem with the actual application is that this text is that small, but I can certainly highlight it better for educational purposes.

3. Questions about the lesson's navigation: I will take a look at the quiz to see how I can improve its functionality. I am considering adding a statement to the questions that tells the learner to click "Submit" when they are ready to submit their answers. Clicking the "Next" or "Back" buttons do not help the learner since they are being confused on which buttons to click and moving to other quiz questions does not save their progress. So, I will delete them to eliminate confusion. The quiz is short enough that if they need to complete it again, it shouldn't take long.

4. Questions about the lesson's review: I will design some practice problems that better simulate the style of the quiz questions.

5. Questions about the quiz: Changes to the quiz are addressed in the navigation and review section. Some of the learners were concerned about passing the quiz, so I will help them practice before taking the quiz. Also, confusion of the quiz navigation occurred, so I will adjust the question text and button format to eliminate confusion.

6. Questions about the overall course experience: I am satisfied with results and will take the time to address the learners' concerns. The above changes should enhance the overall learner experience.

Appendices. The raw data results are included hereafter.

Kristi, I like how when the learner was to perform an action, the first time you would

mention and show a tool and then the next time you would just mention which tool was

to be selected, making the learner remember what tool that was. A few suggestions - on

the moving action - you changed how you identified the tool from previous tools - you

may want to make it consistent with the others. Also, when told to click on "options", no

tool was shown so a learner had to guess - not sure if covered in previous lessons. I

also was not sure what was happening with the quiz but when I would click next - it

I would remove all buttons from the quiz except the back button. It became really hokey

when I used it. Pretty good job!

When I hit step 14 on adding text I kept getting the "loading" pop up at each step. I got

stuck at step 16, so I stopped there. If no one else had this issue it could have just

been a fluke. I worked the lesson just before midnight so it could be due to server

updates or something. I exited the program got back into it, and used the arrow to skip

forward (I liked that I could do that instead of going through it all again) and I got stuck

on step 13 of adding text this time.

There were a few pacing issues within the videos, mainly due to the narrator stumbling

I left some questions blank because I didn't get a chance to test these out and cannot

give an accurate response. I've previously addressed the technical issue that I had.

Questions about the lesson review.

I was able to reach the lesson's review easily.

The review adequately prepared me for the quiz.

The review was informative.

I wish there was more to the review.

It would have been nice if there were review problems similar to the quizquestions that could have prepared me for the question style of the quiz.

Please add any questions or comments about the lesson's review here.

Yes, I would have to say that the review was just a general info session of what was

learned overall but not the steps for the actions of which was in the quiz.

I will try to get into your lesson again at another time so I can answer these questions

for you.

Some practice problems that involved the order of operations would be helpful.

Questions about the quiz:

I was able to take the quiz at the end of the course.

The instructions of the quiz were easy to understand.

The quiz questions challenged me.

The quiz questions required me to think back on what I learned in this lesson.

Yes, I kept hitting the next button and my answers were switched around. When I tried

to go back and retake the quiz it would not let me go back very easily and then would

not allow me to change my answers.

I didn't pass the quiz but have to admit my mind wondered off a few times and steps

required to work in the app are a little different from what I am familiar with.

It's not hard as long as you pay attention.

Questions about the overall course experience:

This lesson mattered to me.

I learned how to create an infographic using the Autodesk Sketchbook mobileapplication.

I feel that I could take what I learned from  this course and apply it elsewhere inmy life.

Good course! I may not ever use Autodesk Sketchbook, but at least I feel like I could

use it if I wanted to.
