    Hi Jaga

You do not need a router or anything. Just get the correct lan cable and hook it bwtween the two

computers. If you need 100 feet, have it made. It is cheap.

Now, click on the C drive of the main computer and share it. Give it a name.

Now reboot and boot the other computer after. Go in the other computer and click on My Computer. Go in

the Tools menu and click on 'Map network Drive'

A window will open up and it should show the name you gave the computer. Click on it...wait a few

seconds for it to locate it and when it does, you are connected.

If you want to share the second computer, do the same think. Click on the C drive and select share and

use a different name. Reboot both computers.

Go into the first one , click My computer, click on 'Map network drive.

It will locate it in secods.

    That's it.....no routers necessary.

There are many ways to connect a computer over LAN.

If you only want to connect two computers than you only need two LAN cards and a crosslinked cable.

    About the cables:

As I know there are two types of LAN cables:- Crosslinked: Used for communication between single computers or network devices such as routers,

    switches and hubs.

    - Patch: Can only be used between network devices but not betwwen computers!

If you want to connect more than two computers than you will most likely need a switch or at least a hub

    or a router.

I personally recommend the switch because it is much faster than the hub.

I don't really know if you have to configure a hub or a switch but I have heard about configurable switches

    but never about hubs.

Configuring a network is pretty simple if you know what to do.

First install all the drivers for the LAN cards if needed than follow these steps:

    A. If you have a switch or a hub (on windows):

    1. Open control panel.

    2. Open network connections.3. Look for your LAN connection and click left on it.

    4. Select properities.

    5. Look for TCP/IP settings and click double on it or click on the properities button below them.

    6. Select use the following IP adress and type in an ip address.

    - Most of the times people use 192.168.0.1 for the first computer. On the other computer you only need to

change the last number like this: 192.168.0.2 and so on.

    7. Type in a subnet mask.

    - Most of the time people use: 255.255.255.0 so I think you should use this too. :)

    8. Click ok and then again click ok.

    9. Repeat these steps on all of the computers and than connect them to the switch or hub and hopefully

you are ready to go. :)

    2. If you have a router (on windows):

If you have a router whitch is capable to DHCP than you don't really need to do anything just connect all

of the computers to the router and you are ready. If you are unsure if your router is capable such thing

than I think you should check the manual of the router.
