How to Create Your Own Online Fundraising Project Page:

1. Go to www.cansa.org.za

2. Click on the “Raise Funds Online” button:

3. You will go through to the “Raise Funds Online for CANSA” page, where you will

see the benefits of raising funds online, through GivenGain’s digital platform.

4. Further down, on the same page you will see the following heading:

Become a Fundraising Activist for an Online Fundraising Project

Click where it says ‘Click on this link to go to current CANSA Fundraising Projects’

which then takes you to this page:

5. Browse through the various projects and click on the project of your choice.

6. You’ll now be directed to the online registration page on GivenGain – CANSA’s secure

online donation and fundraising platform:

1. You can register using your Facebook Account login details – see the blue button “sign

up or log in via Facebook” (above screenshot). If you don’t have a Facebook Account

you can still register on this page (see sentence just above blue Facebook button).

GO TO STEP 9 below if you don’t have Facebook.

2. A pop up window may appear asking you to login to Facebook. Enter your details

and click on login.

3. On the next window, click “Allow”, to grant permission to GivenGain to access your

basic Facebook details, such as your name and profile pic for your fundraising page:

4. The page will now reload and you will see your fundraising page displaying your name &

surname, as well as your Facebook profile pic – you can also change these in future

under “Settings” (top right of your screen when on your project).

5. If you don’t have Facebook, go to the sentence above the “blue Facebook button” and

click “right here” – then enter your details in the fields provided:

6. You will now see the following:

7. Click on the verification link that GivenGain will send to the email address you used

to set up your Activist Profile. Until you do this your project page won’t be visible to

the public.

8. Now complete the “Actions Required” list: Click on “Complete your profile” – you

will be required to supply more information in the fields provided - Change your basic

account info, bio, username, and location settings. This information appears on your

Activist profile, and helps identify you to your donors and followers:

9. To continue completing your Activist Profile, click on “Settings” button (top right of

screen).

10. If you have a website, blog, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn account, add the URL in the

required fields in order to link your project with these accounts (ex’s provided below the

field blocks). Then click on “update”.

Should you wish to delete your “Activist Profile” you can click on the red “delete account”

link.

11. Once you have updated your Profile Info you can click on “My Profile” (top right of

page) – continue to complete the remaining “Actions Required” – namely, to “upload

your picture” - Your picture helps to identify you to those following you. No animated

images are allowed and the minimum width & height must be 300 pixels:

12. Click on “Upload your Picture” – click on “Browse” – a window will open and you can

select the picture you would like to use by clicking on it. Now click on “open”:

If you've connected your GivenGain and Facebook accounts, you can automatically use your

Facebook Profile Picture.

13. You can now crop your picture - If you are happy with the image, select "crop and

save". To change, drag one of the small square handles on one of the sides into the

picture to get the size you want, then move the highlighted box to your preferred area:

14. Click on “Return to your profile page” in order to complete the remaining actions.

15. When you return to your profile, you will see your picture on the right hand side of the

page. You will now be required to complete the next action, which is to create

your fundraising project:

16. Click on the “Create your first fundraising project” link – you will now be required to

select a cause to support:

In the Search field type: CANSA and click on “search” – you will now see all CANSA’s

fundraising projects displayed:

17. Select CANSA “Individual Donors & Fundraising Activists”:

You can see that you are going to create a fundraising project page for CANSA “Individual

Donors & Fundraising Activists”.

18. Enter the amount you would like to raise for fundraising project in the field to the left

of the ZAR. Don’t leave spaces or use punctuation.

19. In the second field, click on the dropdown arrow to the right and select the time period

in which your fundraising project will be open for donations. You can also enter a

specific date (see “Specify a date?”)

20. Now Click “continue”.

21. You will now be required to “Describe your project” by giving it a name and briefly

stating what it is you wish to achieve through it – check the box if you wish to send a

thank you mailer to your donors:

22. You can personalise your thank you note by placing your cursor in the box and

replacing the text. Now you are ready to click on the “Create Project” button.

23. You can make use of the social media buttons to share your project with potential

donors.

To go to your project click on the “Go To Project” button.

To add a video or photos to your project click on the “Add a video and photos” button.

This is how it will look if you “Go to Project”:

• You can edit your project by clicking on the “Edit Project” button below on page.

• You can see a donation slider bar – as funds are donated to your fundraising project

page online, the slider will move to reflect how much you have raised and how close to

your target amount you are.

• You can also see how many donors you have and how many days until your

project is closed.

24. How to use menu (to left of your project page):

• Profile: to see your basic details on GivenGain and featured project.

• Projects: a description of your project – you can either edit your project or click on

“manage project” if you wish to add details - From here you can edit your fundraising

pages - the target amount, end date, and project description. You can also add your

Twitter feed, pictures from Picasa or Flickr, and customize the thank you message sent

to your donors.

• Newsfeed: comments and updates re your project.

• Followers: other GivenGain activists who are following your fundraising project.

• Following: GivenGain activists whose fundraising projects you are following.

25. Click on the grey button “Social” at the top of the “Project Settings” page to

connect your project to your social networks if you have not already done so:

26. Menu top right of page:

• My Profile: your basic information on GivenGain

• Settings: you can change your basic information here and delete your account

• Logout: when you are finished with your updates remember to logout here.

27. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL:

• Market your project by sending your link to your friends, family, colleagues, database,

etc. and send it out via your social networks too.

• Do this on a regular basis to keep their interest – see example of URL:
