The balance of the journey is completed by advertising and disseminating the publications by using the proper “Research Tools”. Familiarity with the tools allows the researchers to increase their h-index in a short time. H-index shows the academicians influence in the specified field of research. Therefore, an academician with a higher level of h-index is deemed to have publications of higher quality resulting in higher citations. The number of citations contributes to over 30% in deciding the ranking of a university. Therefore, most of the scientists are looking for an effective method to increase their citation record. Nader has developed and introduced a method for increasing the visibility of the research which directly affects on the number of citations. The following examples (Figure 1) of two researchers prove that publication marketing is indeed effective. Both researchers have used the “Publication Marketing Tools” since the beginning of 2012. In this seminar you will learn effective technique in increasing the visibility of articles. This technique will greatly increase the chance of being viewed and/or cited in another work. From the other hand, citation indexes have already figured in many disciplines as a measure of an article’s value; there is evidence that article views/downloads are also beginning to count in the same way. The crucial area for optimization is your article’s abstract, title and keywords, which are freely available to all online.

AN INTRODUCTION SEMINAR ON:

How to Enhance Research Visibility & Citations

Time : 10:00am – 13:00pm

Speaker : Nader Ale Ebrahim, PhD

Venue Lecture Hall , Pharmacology Department, Faculty of Medicine., University of

Malaya

Organizer : Research Support Unit & Journal club, Pharmacology Department, Faculty of

Medicine, University of Malaya

1. Introduction:

Publishing a high quality paper in scientific journals is not the final step. And, the next step is to

inform other scholars from our research outputs and publications. The balance of the journey is

completed by advertising and disseminating the publications by using the proper “Research

Tools”. Familiarity with the tools allows the researchers to increase their h-index in a short time.

H-index shows the academicians influence in the specified field of research. Therefore, an

academician with a higher level of h-index is deemed to have publications of higher quality

resulting in higher citations.

The number of citations contributes to over 30% in deciding the ranking of a university.

Therefore, most of the scientists are looking for an effective method to increase their citation

record. Nader has developed and introduced a method for increasing the visibility of the research

which directly affects on the number of citations. The following examples (Figure 1) of two

researchers prove that publication marketing is indeed effective. Both researchers have used the

“Publication Marketing Tools” since the beginning of 2012.

In this seminar you will learn effective technique in increasing the visibility of articles. This

technique will greatly increase the chance of being viewed and/or cited in another work. From

the other hand, citation indexes have already figured in many disciplines as a measure of an

article’s value; there is evidence that article views/downloads are also beginning to count in the

same way. The crucial area for optimization is your article’s abstract, title and keywords, which

are freely available to all online.

2. Objective

The workshop seeks to serve introduction to the following objectives:

To increase the published paper’s visibility, accessibility

To increase the chance of publications getting cited

To make your research and teaching activities known

To disseminate the publications by using “Research Tools” in order to increase

citation

To increase the chance of new contacts for research cooperation

To trace the citation

3. What will we learn?

This course includes:

Introduction to preparing for publication

Optimizing the article for search engine by abstract-title-keyword

Optimizing the article for search engine by meta data

Some recommendations to maximize visibility

The role of keyword in visibility

Publisher’s role in higher citation

Citation trends for different types of publication

Some recommendations to increase the availability and visibility

Introduction To Networking And Bookmarking

4. Who should attend?

The workshop is aimed at senior and junior researchers along with supervisors, professors,

lecturers, postgraduate students, researchers who have published any papers and would like to

increase their papers’ visibility and number of citations. The “publication marketing tools”

uncovered at the workshop is useful across various research disciplines and research institutions.

Participants should be familiar with using scientific databases and reference management

software. Basic computer skills are a prerequisite to attend this workshop.

6. Speaker profile

Nader Ale Ebrahim is currently working as a

research fellow with the Research Support

Unit, Centre of Research Services, Institute of

Research Management and Monitoring (IPPP),

University of Malaya. Nader holds a PhD

degree in Technology Management from

Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya.

He has over 19 years of experience in the field

of technology management and new product

development in different companies. His

current research interest focuses on E-skills,

Research Tools, Bibliometrics and managing

virtual NPD teams in SMEs’ R&D centers.

Nader developed a new method using the

“Research Tools” which help students who

seek to reduce the search time by expanding

the knowledge of researchers to effectively use the "tools" that are available on the Internet. Research

Tools consist of a hierarchical set of nodes. It has four main nodes: (1) Searching the literature, (2)

Writing a paper, (3) Targeting suitable journals, and (4) Enhancing visibility and impact.

He was the winner of Refer-a-Colleague Competition and has received prizes from renowned

establishments such as Thomson Reuters. Nader is well-known as the founder of “Research Tools”

Box and the developer of “Publication Marketing Tools”.
