HOW TO FILE AMENDED RETURN For Nonresident Alien Individuals When nonresident alien individuals need to amend their tax return, take the following steps. 1. Go to www.irs.gov.

2. Search for 1040X and download Form 1040X, http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040x.pdf.

3. Also, download the instruction for Form 1040X (PDF).

4. Complete only

a. the top portion 1040X including items A and B, b. signature at the bottom of page 1, and c. Part II on page 2.

5. Complete 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ along with Form 8843 for the year tax return need to be amended after downloading them from www.irs.gov. May need to go to the Prior Year Forms list for prior year forms that need to be

amended (Web).

Form 1040NR (PDF). Instruction for Form 1040NR (PDF). Form 1040NR-EZ (PDF). Instruction for Form 1040NR-EZ (PDF). Form 8843 (PDF).

6. Attach a. 1040X from item 4 above, b. 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ with “AS AMENDED” written on top of each page, and c. a copy of the original form submitted with “COPY OF ORIGINALLY

SUBMITTED” on top of each page.

7. Submit all to the address provided in the IRS 1040X instruction.

8. Keep a copy for your record.
