How to Fine Tune and Maintain Site Hierarchy
Application Scenario:
When defining sites or benchmarking network after network topology changes, your sites may change or
may not go as expected to some extent. You could fine tune your sites and maintain your site up-to-date
without having to re-define the total sites.
This document introduces how to fine tune and maintain sites based on the following cases:
One Cluster matches more than 1 Site
Cluster does not match any sites
Site without any devices
Solution:
One Cluster matches more than 1 Site
In the Site Manager window, click a Cluster node in the Site Tree on the left window, click the Site
Member tab on the right. You’ll see multiple devices listed under different leaf sites in the Static Site
column, and this message at the top: The Cluster matches more than 1 site.
To resolve this cluster site, you can find the edge interface and split the devices to their own leaf sites by
following the instruction below:

a) Right-click the cluster and choose Map All Devices to create a new Qmap.
b) Highlight sites in the map from the map Floating menu (Highlight > Site…), select all leaf sites
and click OK.
In the following window, we can see that there are several interconnection points (LAN
segments/WAN segments) between sites.
c) Right click the interconnected WAN segments and choose Add to Border Interface List to
switch back to the Boader Interface tab of the Site Manager window.

d) Click the Rebuild Site button to reassign the devices to the leaf sites, and the “old” Cluster site
will be removed from the Site Tree.
Cluster does not match any sites
In the Site Manager window, click a Cluster node in the Site Tree on the left window, and click the Site
Member tab on the right. If you don’t see anything in the “Static Site” column, that means all devices in
the cluster do not belong to any sites. You will also see this message at the top: “No Matched Site".

To resolve this cluster site, you can either set it as a new leaf site or merge it to an existing leaf site:
a) Set the selected cluster as a leaf site
Right click the cluster in the Site Tree and choose Set as a Site. Input a Site Name in the Create
a Leaf Site window and click OK, it will build the new leaf site under My Network Site layer.
b) Merge it to an existing site
If the devices in the cluster should be part of an existing site, right click the cluster in the Site
Tree and choose Merge to site. The cluster can only be merged to a leaf site. In the Merge to
Site window, select the leaf site, click OK. NetBrain will navigate to the merged leaf site and list
all devices merged from the cluster site.

Click the Rebuild Site button to calculate the sites, and the “old” Cluster site will be removed
from the Site Tree.
Site without any devices
If there is a site without a number next to the sitename, this means the site does not include any devices.
Click the Site Member tab, you will see no devices listed in the table and this message at the top: “No
Matched Cluster ".
To add devices to the leaf site, select the leaf site in the Site tree, click the Static Definition tab as shown
below. There are 3 ways to add devices to a leaf site manually:

o Via Border Interfaces
Click the Select button from the Border Interface section, search a device and select the appropriate
interface to be set as a border interface. NetBrain will auto add the corresponding devices to the leaf
site.
Select the Border Interface from the Device Interface List on the left side.
Click > button and add the Border Interface to the Interface list on the right side.
Click OK to add the selected Border Interface to the site.

o Via Dynamic Search
In the Dynamic Search section, select a search criteria (e.g. hostname or Interface IP) to add
matched devices to the leaf site.
Select Hostname from the search criteria, set the match operation to Contains, and then input a
keyword.
Click the Search button, the corresponding devices will be added to the current site.
o Via Static Add
Click the Add button to add a device to the leaf site manually.
