Introduction
1 Introduction
This document is an introduction to the Active Library Explorer, software thatenables users to browse Ericsson Customer Product Information (CPI) librariesin a standard web browser.
The document is written for Active Library Explorer version R10/4 or later.
Target Group
This information is intended for anyone needing to use Active Library Explorerto read Ericsson CPI.
1.1 CPI Library
A CPI library is a container file that includes HTML, PDF, and Excel® files.HTML is the primary file format for reading on screen. For each HTMLdocument, a corresponding PDF file is usually provided that allows theinformation to be printed in a reader-friendly format.
1.2 Active Library Explorer Functions
Active Library Explorer contains two sets of functions:
• Library functions are used for handling complete libraries. You can, forexample, search for libraries, or compare libraries.
• Document functions are available when a library is opened for viewing.These functions are used for handling documents in a library, for example,to search for a document.
This document covers the basic document functions. The library functions arenot described here; refer to the Help information available in the Active LibraryExplorer for this information.

2 Active Library Explorer Window
An example of an Active Library Explorer window is shown in the followingfigure.

The window is divided in three frames:
• The toolbar frame is located at the top of the browser window and containsthe Active Library Explorer tools. See Table 1 on page 3.
• The tree frame is displayed in the left part of the browser. This treecontains the library or document structure and is used for navigating in asimilar way as navigating in a file system. See Section 3.3 on page 6.
When viewing a library collection, a third tab – the collection tab – isdisplayed, as shown in Figure 2 on page 3, which contains the structureof the collection.
• The document frame covers most of the browser window. Initially itdisplays library information. When a folder is selected it displays thecontents of the folder, the subfolder and document icons. When adocument is selected, it is opened in this frame.

3 Basic Functions
This section describes the basic document functions.
3.1 Back and Forward
These two buttons, located on the main toolbar, allow you tonavigate the most recently viewed pages just as the Back andForward buttons do in other browsers.
3.2 Searching
Enter the search parameters in the Search document field onthe toolbar and press Enter (or click the Search icon) to initiate asearch of the content of the library.
Four different types of searches are performed simultaneously:• Command or block name looks for command codes and function block
names.• Document title looks for words located in document titles.• Document number looks for matching document identities.• Body text looks through the contents of every document in the library.
Once the search is complete, a list of matching documents is displayed in thedocument frame, organized according to document type. Each document title isa link to the corresponding document.

3.2.1 Advanced Search Options
Click the Advanced Search icon to open the Advanced Searchpage, where any combination of the four search types can beselected. Logical operators can be used, as well as searches for acertain document type.
3.2.2 Next Search Hit
Click the Next search hit icon to jump to the point in a documentwhere the next search hit is found.

3.2.3 Find in Document Frame
This feature allows the user to search for a string in the documentframe. Clicking the Find in document frame button opens adialog box that prompts the user to enter a string to search for.This feature works only in HTML documents.
3.3 Navigating
The tree frame shows a hierarchical tree structure of either the library or adocument. Two tabs are available to switch between the structures:
• Click Library to show the structure of the library in the tree frame. Usethis structure to navigate the library.
• Click Document to display the structure of the document currentlydisplayed in the document frame. (The tab is enabled only when an HTMLdocument containing a section structure is displayed in the documentframe.) Use this structure to navigate within a document.
When a library collection is being viewed, a third tab, Collection, is available.
In a tree structure, navigate in a similar way as navigating a file system:
• Click the symbol to the left of a folder or section to expand the tree,showing the folders or sections on the next tree level. At the same time, the
symbol is replaced by a symbol.
• Click the symbol to collapse and close the folder or section.
• Click the folder icon or folder title in a Library structure to show the contentsof a folder in the document frame.
• Click the document icon or section title in a Document structure to navigateto that section in the document frame.
• Click the library icon or library title in a Collection structure to open thatlibrary for viewing.

3.4 Adding Bookmarks
Click the Add bookmark icon to create a bookmark to thedocument currently displayed in the document frame.
More information is found in the Active Library Explorer Help.
3.5 Copy Link to Clipboard
Click the Copy link to clipboard button to copy the link of anopened Active Library Explorer page onto the clipboard so it can bepasted anywhere it is required.
Note: This button is available only in IE. When using Netscape, the user mustcopy the URL link of the page being bookmarked by opening the AddBookmark window, right clicking on the bookmark link and choosingthe Copy Link Location option in the browser context menu.
3.6 Printing
Click the Print icon to print a document in the document frame.The browser print function can also be used. There is no differencebetween these two ways of printing.
3.7 Viewing PDF Version of Current Document
Click the Show PDF icon to open the document currently in thedocument frame in PDF format.
The button is dimmed if no PDF file is available for a document.
3.8 Opening a Document in Separate Window
A standard browser feature enables a user to open several documentssimultaneously in separate windows. To open a document in a separatewindow, place the cursor on the document link and right click on it. Select theOpen in New Window (or similar) option.

4 Getting Help
Click the Help icon for further information on a subject in ActiveLibrary Explorer. This opens the Active Library Explorer Help,which, for example, describes the following information:
Search The available search options, as well as searchexpressions, wildcards, and logical operators
Navigation How to navigate in the tree structure of the library
Other The other icons in the toolbar frame, for example, howto display the PDF version of the displayed documentand how to insert a bookmark.
