How to Install SAP Netweaver 2004s ABAP Edition on Your Local PC

Applies to: Web Dynpro, SAP Web Application Server, ABAP

Summary This article provides a detailed guide for downloading and installing the SAP Netweaver 2004s ABAP Edition, and then subsequently running a WebDynpro ABAP Application. Within this Edition, Web Dynpro for ABAP Technology is available for the first time. Web Dynpro ABAP offers you all the advantages of SAP's next generation UI technology: Use its model-driven approach to minimize manual coding and take advantage of visual tools to design and reuse UI components. Web Dynpro is based on a powerful and flexible Model-View-Controller architecture that assures a clear separation of user interfaces and back-end services. You have full control of the generated code at all stages of the development process.

Prerequisites System Requirements

• Operating System: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Windows Server 2003

• NTFS-File systems

• Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Firefox 1.0 or higher

• At least 1 GB RAM

• Intel Pentium III/1.1 GHz or higher (or compatible)

• 22 GB hard disk space temporary during installation - 10 GB permanent

• High-resolution monitor (1024x768 or higher, 256 colors)

• Make sure that no other SAP system is installed on your computer

• The file <%WINDIR%>\system32\drivers\etc\services must not include an entry for the ports 3201, 3601 and 8000. A possible entry can be excluded by using the hash symbol (#).

• If no DHCP server is available on your network (which dynamically determines the IP address) or your computer is not connected to any network, you need to install the virtual interface adapter MS Loopback Adapter. See installing the MS Loopback Adapter.

How to Download the Software From the homepage of SAP Developer Network (SDN) https://www.sdn.sap.com, choose ‘Downloads’ from the menu. From the SDN Download Catalog, choose NW and then SAP NetWeaver Sneak Preview and Trial to find the ABAP Trial Version.

Once you accept the terms of the download license, download the files from SDN into the same folder and extract the rar archive to a separate directory. For multiple part archives you need to extract the first part only. The residual parts are treated automatically during the extraction process. It should look like the following picture.
