Whether you like where you are or not is immaterial, the fact remains that you chose to be where you are.

Who chose the books you read? You did. Who chose the TV programs and channels you watched? You did? Who chose the friends and people you surrounded yourself with? You

did. Who chose the events you attended? You did. Who chose the course you’re reading? No, don’t lie, it’s not your

influential parents, you accepted it! Who chose your career? You did.

And guess who decided how to spend your money and what to spend it on?Come on, you know, of course, that it was you. Marylyn Lohsdon rightly pointed out, “If your life takes a turn for the worst, remember that you arethe one who is driving.”

poet Henley once wrote, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” And the great apostle Paul counsels in Philippians 2:14, “Do all things

without complaining.”

Look for the Best in Ever ything

ost folks go through life looking and hoping for bad things. Don’t belike them. The Bible says that after God created everything, he sat

back and saw that they were all damn good. Look for that good -- inpeople, in circumstances, in organizations, in everything!

Instead of giving up in your business because Nigerian is such a bad country that to fuel your car and generator you have to fight everyday in the fillingstation, press on and see how you can synergize with other good Nigeriansthat will lower the cost of doing business.

Instead affirming that your children, spouse, parents, friends and Church are

bad and uncaring, look for their good and you’ll get it.

In one of Abraham Lincoln’s powerful letters to the teacher of his son, he wrote, “I know that all men are not just, all men are not true. But teach himthat for every scoundrel, there is a hero, for every selfish politician, there is adedicated leader.”

It’s all about your mental attitude. Joseph E. Cossman pointed out, “Nothingin the world can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving

his goal. Nothing in the world can help the man with the wrong mentalattitude.”

Set BIG Goals

your life but you’ve not achieved them because they’re still wishes. Turn theminto goals by writing them on paper. Write the things you want to achieve this

year. Remember if you don’t aim at a target, you can’t shoot it. If you don’t setgoals, life will give you want she wants and it is seldom the best.

S Set them high. Let them be so big that they excite you. The great author LesBrown famously said, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it, you’ll landamong the stars.”

Understand that your goals don’t have to be perfect, you can always modify them. Spread them under different categories like financial, mental, spiritual,physical, and social.

I’ve already written down mine -- I’m going back to school, I want to writeand launch a very powerful world-class book, I want to read at least 700powerful books, I want to win souls to God, amongst others. Yes, I practice

what I preach.

Acquire Mentor s

hat you want to achieve, there is someone somewhere who hasalready achieved it. They have knowledge superior to yours. They know the shortcuts, the pitfalls, the tricks, the people, and the tools

you need to make it happen. What took them 10 years to attain can take you amonth to achieve… with their help.

Make it your responsibility to find them and get them to teach you theirsuccess secrets. Ask them to be your mentor. No one person knows it all, getdifferent mentors for each area of your life: spiritual, financial, mental,

business, career, and so on.

The Bible says in Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Cut your learning andachievement curve this year by acquiring mentors and learning from them

seriously.

Resolve in Advan ce Never to Give Up

wo mice fell into a bucket of cream. One immediately gave up and died.The other kept struggling and pushing hard until the cream turned intosolid butter and it climbed up and stepped out. What made the

difference? You’re right -- persistence.

T Giving up is the core habit of failures. Show me a successful person and I willshow you a persistent person. Great people fight one more round, they takeone more step, they try out one more new idea. Giving up isn’t in theirdictionaries. They don’t give up because they know that winners don’t quitand quitters don’t win.

Obstacles are bound to arise. You’ll face them in enough quantity. If you want

to make 2010 your greatest year ever, resolve right now to face them squarely and never give up until you succeed.

Resolve now that if you fail your exam, you’ll write it again, resolve that if your business crashes, you’ll rebuild it or launch another one, resolve that if people turn down your proposals, you’ll keep asking until you get a yes.

I like this quotation by Robert Strauss, “Success is like wrestling a 1000-pound gorilla. You don’t quit when you are tired; you quit when the gorilla is

tired.”

Stay Ver y Focused

ne of the weaknesses of the human race is absolute lack of focus. We jump from one idea to another, from one business to another, fromone church to another, from one career to another -- all in search of

the proverbial golden fleece that elude most people forever.

Year 2010 is probably going to present more opportunities than any other year in human history, just take one of them in each area of your life and work on that single thing until you see results.

It is commonsense that if you chase 100 rats, all at the same time, they willshame you because you are not going to catch any of them. The great apostlePaul says, “This one thing I do.” He didn’t say, “This many things I meddlein.” And remember his advice in 1 Cor. 11:1, “Imitate me, just as I also imitateChrist.”

Fast and Pray Har d Until They Becom eHabits

ohn Hagee writes, “The great tragedy of our day is not unanswered

prayer but unoffered prayer.” He’s right.

Let m e not even ask you of fasting, do you pray? Chances are you don’t. I’ve

got bad news for you: 2010 is gonna be your worst year ever if you don’t pray and fast about it.

Why do I say so? Because in Psalm 127:1, God says except He builds a house,the labourers labour in vain, except He watch over a city, the watchmen

watch in vain. So, except He makes 2010 your greatest year, your efforts will

be in vain. Believe that!

You got to pray hard and fast until they become habits in your life. Listen tothis: as powerful as our God is, He can’t answer an unsaid prayer. He says inJohn 14:14 that if you ask for anything in His name, He’ll do it.

And talking of fasting, we learn in the book of Mark 9:29 that there arecertain things that can’t be done except through fasting and prayer. Hint: If

you pray and pray and pray yet nothing happens, back it up with fasting.

As a Christian you have more power than you realize. I don’t know whoformed the acronym PUSH. But if you want to make 2010 your greatest yearever, you’ve got to live by it. PUSH stands for Pray Until Something Happens.

W ork Hard and Play Hard

ear 2010 isn’t going to be a tea party, if you want to make it your

greatest year ever, then get dressed, roll up your sleeves and beprepared to work hard, hard, hard.

Don’t make the mistake of buying into any misleading philosophy thatteaches that to succeed in the 21st century you don’t have to work hard but

work smart. It’s not true; you have to do both -- work hard as well as work smart.

But there is a clause, if you must work hard, then don’t forget to balance

things up by playing hard. Yes, play hard.




Most people make the mistake of working hard to make much money and pay little or no to their health, then they spend all of the same money trying torestore back their health. Worse, some die and leave all their hard-earned

wealth to their “lazy” folks to enjoy. That’s nothing short of foolishness.

Last year, I made this mistake and paid dearly for it when my blood pressure went up like the price of fuel in Nigeria. I worked when others worked, and when other were sleeping I was still working. I saw it as a sin to play at all. I believed in the destructive formula of work till you break. It became a stronghabit and I was proud to call myself a workaholic. How foolish!

Lesson for 2010: Work hard and play hard.

Get Aroun d Positive People and AvoidNegative Pe ople

e tend to become like the people we surround ourselves with. The wisdom of the Bible says that he that walks with the wise will be wise. W

Do you want to make 2010 your greatest year ever? Then get around great,positive, like-minded people and keep negative people at arm’s length.

How do you distinguish positive people from negative people? Simple. Listento the content of their words and actions. If you continually hear any of theseterms, “I can’t, you can’t, we can’t, it is not possible,” then run from such aperson! Flee from people who complain. Take cover from people who belittle

you and see nothing good in you. They’ll bring out the worst in you this year.

On the other hand, identify positive people and stick with them. You’ll alwayssee them with books. They read, they write, they are always quiet; they talk

when it is absolutely necessary, they’re optimistic, relaxed, passionate, andspiritually oriented.

Be Extrem ely Self-Disciplined

f you implement all other principles and leave out this one, you’ll becondemned to failure -- guaranteed.


I



Self discipline is doing what you should do when you should do them whether you feel like doing them or not. It’s the foundation that other principles reston. If you don’t have it, your life will crumble -- sure bet.

Warning: It’s not gonna be easy. It takes solid courage to be disciplined.

You’ll have to fight with yourself whether to stay put on your couch and watchTV for hours or face the things that will take you closer to your set goals.

You’ll have to struggle to get out of bed when your alarm blast off that it’stime to go and do exercise.

You’re going to find it difficult to avoid eating junks and eat healthy food. It will take great effort to attend church services, read your books, keep theright relationships, stay focused, look for the best, pray and fast, acceptresponsibilities, and so many other things that will help you make 2010 yourgreatest year ever.

Listen: you can make 2010 your greatest year ever, all you need to do is putall the principles you’ve just learnt into practice.

Always remember, as Henry David Thoreau puts it, “Men are born to succeed,not to fail.”
