Andrew Zolnaiwww.zolnai.ca
Premise • Screen captures are typically 96dpi (screen) resolution• That works for computer-to-computer presentations etc.
• Submit a publication, map or calendar?• Requirement of 300dpi typically more important than the file format
• Photoshop etc. allow to do that if you have them• But here’s a technique using Micosoft Paint in Windows
Post a 300dpi image (target) and your 96 dpi image (source) side by side on your desktop
Target Source
Verify the resolution of each image, select in top menu File > Properties
Target Source
If not already JPEG, “Save as…” that format so you can read dpi’s (no image degradation)
Target Source
Copy&paste the dimensions of the source into those of the target
Target Source
Copy&paste source image into target frame: click source Ctrl-A + Ctrl-C, then target Ctrl-V
Target Source
Target “Save as…”, say, {source name}300.jpg Voilà! You now have a 300dpi version to use…
Target Source
Verify in Windows Explorer that is the case
Target Source
Thank you…Please share around widely!
