Lip balms are necessary for moisturizing and protecting your lips. If you want smooth

and healthy lips but cannot stand the color, fragrance or the consistency of the existing balms,

you are in the right place. Home-made lip balms are not only unique and affordable but they are

also natural. It is possible to create as many kinds as the nature gives you without worrying about

chemicals.

This set of instructions will enable you make your own lip balm in as little as 30 minutes.

Just mix melted oil-beeswax mixture with the color and flavoring of your preference. Also, do

not forget to show your creativity by using different design features. These lip balms will not

only be perfect for you but they will also make great gifts for your loved ones.

Before you start making your lip balm, please read the caution remarks and

troubleshooting tips. This will enable you to follow the instructions smoothly.

Materials:

y A microwave or stove

y A measuring cup

y Beeswax

y Sunflower oil

y Two kinds of essential oils

y Coloring powder (green, purple)

y A plastic pipette

y 1 lip balm tube

y 1 lip balm canisterEstimated Time: 30 minutes

Trouble shooting tips:

- If the mixture solidifies before pouring, or between steps, microwave for 30 seconds.

- If cracks are observed in the solidified mixture, either add more sunflower oil or pour themixture at a lower temperature.

- If the plastic pipette gets clogged while pouring, run your thumb and index finger down thesides of the pipette until the dried balm gets out of the open end.

- If a hole in the center of the tube is observed after the solidification of the balm, add one last

drop of melted balm at the top.

1. Instructions on making a lip balm:

2. Microwave in small intervals until the beads are melted and homogeneously mixed in

with the oil.

If you are using stove instead of microwave, use the double boiler technique, which involves

boiling water in a pot and placing the cup that contains the mixture in it until the mixture

melts.

WARNING: MELTED WAX IS EXTEREMELY HOT. HANDLE IT

CAREFULLY!

1. Mix beeswax beads and sunflower oil in amicrowavable cup. (see figure 1)

Refer to the following table for appropriate ratio ofbeeswax and sunflower oil:

3. Add fragrance of your choice, one drop at a time,until you reach to the desired intensity. (see figure

2)5 -7 drops of fragrance is typical for each tube or canister

of lip balm.4. Swirl gently to let the fragrance diffuse in the

solution.

7. Microwave the mixture for 15 seconds, stir, and microwave for another 15 seconds.

10. Put the lid on and enjoy your homemade lip balm.

2. Instructions on designing:

2.1. Layers:

1. Prepare the beeswax and sunflower oil mixture in two separate containers using half ofthe volumes for each (refer to table 1).

2. Apply different colors to each container.

3. Pour the first mixture about half full and wait 10 minutes to let the mixture solidify.

4. Pour the second mixture until the top of the container.

5. Add color powder by tapping gently on the side of itscontainer until you reach to the desired color effect. (see

figure 3)

To open the provided powder container, squeeze the two ends

together while holding it from the top and the bottom. .

6. Swirl gently to let the color diffuse in the solution.

8. Transfer lip balm into a tube and a canister usinga plastic pipette. (see figure

4)

Plastic pipette is used by squeezing the bubble at the

end with your thumb and index finger, putting its tip in

the mixture and slowly releasing the bubble so that the

mixture can get into the pipette.

9. Let the mixture solidify and cool off for 20minutes before you move it.

Now that you know how to make your own lip balm, you can enjoy your smooth and healthylips. You can add additional design features and make your lip balm even more unique and

personal. Do not forget that you can also use your fragrances to personalize other cosmetics suchas unscented body and hand lotions.

1. Prepare beeswax and sunflower oil mixture in two

separate containers using and of the volumes.

2. Apply different colors to each container.

3. Pour the first mixture ( volume) until the canisteris 1/3 full and wait 10 minutes to let the mixture

solidify.

4. Place the cap of one tube, open side up, just at the

center of the canister on the solidified mixture.

5. Fill the canister at the level of the cap using thesame mixture and wait 10 minutes to let the mixture

solidify.

6. Remove the cap from the center. (see figure 5)

7. Fill the hole in the center with the second mixture

( volume) and wait 10 minutes to let it solidify.(see figure 6)
