How to prepare for MAT and Tips to Succeed in the Exam

MAT or Management Aptitude Test is conducted by All India Management Association and is quite

similar to CAT but is comparatively easier and it gives an opportunity to get admission to some of the

best management colleges and institutes. The exams are usually held four times a year and its score is

accepted by more than 250 colleges across India. Students have the option to either take the paper

based test or the computer enabled test.

Following are the few tips which will help you to excel the exam and achieve your goal.

Know your strengths and weakness

You can make a plan to the destination well if you know the start point. You need to understand

your strengths and weaknesses for any test preparation so that you can plan to turn your

weaknesses into strengths and ignore certain weaknesses if they are not important from exam

point of view and also improve upon your strengths.

Read newspapers

This is very important preparation strategy as far as working on your current affairs is

concerned. If you are studying for MBA entrance exam, you must thoroughly read the

newspaper daily.

Take mock tests

MAT is one B-school entrance exam which tests two important aspects: speed and accuracy.

Both have to go hand in hand. For increasing your speed, while taking mock tests you should

solve questions using alternate methods particularly in Math. You should devote time analyzing

questions and devising logical methods during your mock tests

Practice hard

Don’t forget that only learning by reading chapters in a book will take you nowhere. It is

questions that you need to answer correctly in the test and thus extensive practice is important

About the test

The duration for MAT exam is 2.5 hours and it is divided into five sections. The questions are

objective type with multiple choice answers. The test judges a candidate on his general aptitude

and it consists of 200 questions. The test also has a provision of negative marking for incorrect

answers and deducts 25% of the marks allotted to the question in case a wrong answer is given.
