HOW TO PREVENT
SWINE FLU???
As swine flu continues to spread, experts from the Centers for Disease Control to the World Health Organization to neighbourhood doctors are echoing the call for everyone to practice smart flu prevention techniques. Here are some ways to keep your body boosted and your immune system ready to fight infection.
WASH YOUR HANDSWash your hands often and wash well with antibacterial soap. Rub your hands together and work the lather through. Then rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat. You need to take at least half a minute to wash your hands properly.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP
Try to get 8 hours of
good rest each night
to keep your immune
system in top flu-
fighting shape.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Water helps to flush out toxins and keep us hydrated
throughout the day.
BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY
Keeping your body strong,
nourished, and ready to fight
infection is important in flu
prevention. Fatty foods can slow
your metabolism, make you feel
sluggish, and compromise your
immune system. So stick to whole
grains, colourful vegetables, and
vitamin rich fruits.
BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE
Mild to moderate exercise—for
example brisk walking for 30-40
minutes 3-4 times a week-
supports the immune system by
increasing circulation, oxygenating
the body, purging toxins through
sweat, and releasing tension and
stress. So get moving!
AVOID TOUCHING SURFACES
Try not to touch surfaces and
avoid handshakes as hands
transmit germs to the mouth.
You are better off not touching
your face and mouth areas until
you are sure that your hands are
clean.
AVOID CONTACT WITH SICK PEOPLE
Flu virus is spread when particles
dispersed into the air through a
cough or sneeze reach someone
else’s nose. So if you’re coughing or
sneezing, cover your mouth (and
then wash your hands), and if you
have to be around someone who is
sick, try to stay a few feet away
from them and avoid physical
contact.
GET MEDICAL AID
Swine flu symptoms are similar to
regular flu. Cold, cough, body ache
and fever are the symptoms of both.
However, if the symptoms are
aggravated then do not hesitate to
seek medical help.
