How to print individual backgrounds with the A3+ Epson Stylus Photo R1900 printer

Dear Creative, Print top-quality individual 12x12“ backgrounds for your scrapbook pages easily on a large variety of media with the A3+ Epson Stylus Photo R1900 printer. As well as basic backgrounds, you can also create and complete your own designs. This tutorial focuses on printing backgrounds with free Picasa software available from Google.

1. Tools and Materials

a. Media Selection The Epson Stylus Photo R1900 printer combines vibrant colours and natural skin tones with high stability on a large variety of media. The supported media ranges from true acid free fine art media to high quality matte and glossy media and will allow you to select a base material that suits your final design. Borderless printing is also possible, which means if you print on a suitable paper size, you don’t have to manually cut the media after printing. Standard photo sizes are supported including the scrapbook 12 x 12” format, 4x6” and DIN formats.

Below is a list of Epson media that will run with the Epson Stylus Photo R1900 printer. Non epson 12x12” media can also be used including Gallerie Smooth Lustre Duo from Ilford.

Epson Enhanced Matte Paper

Smooth matte, bright white surface on paper base (192g/m²). In combination with UltraChrome family printers such as Epson Stylus Photo R1900 a very large colour gamut (wide range of colours) can be printed enabling superior colour reproduction. No Back print so the back can be used as part of the design. Available in large packs (A4 250sheets/pack, A3+ 100 sheets/pack)

Epson Archival Matte Paper

Same as Epson Enhanced Matte Paper. Available in A4, A3 and A3+ 50 sheets/pack

Epson Premium Lustre Photo Paper

High grade Media on RC-Base with lustre surface. Available in large packs (A4 250 sheets/pack, A3+ 100 sheets/pack)

Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper

High grade Media on RC-Base with glossy surface. Available in A3 and A3+ with 20 sheets/pack, as well as in smaller sizes from 4x6” to A4

Epson Premium Semigloss Photo Paper

b. The Printer – Epson Stylus Photo R1900 The Epson Stylus Photo R1900 printer uses pigmented Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss2 inks that provide long lasting prints on a large variety of media. Its inks have been designed for natural skin tones as well as vivid colours.

2. How To

a. Printing with Picasa on 12x12“ Media Backgrounds can be printed from Picasa using the genuine Epson printer driver. Ticking the print symbol within Picasa will open the Picasa print dialogue.

To print 12x12“ backgrounds borderless on corresponding media, „Full Page“ needs to be selected in the print dialogue. Under „Border and Text Options“ please setup „None“ under Border width. Under „Printer“ please select your printer. Ticking „Printer setup“ will lead you to the Epson printer driver.

In the printer driver the quality levels can be selected under quality options. „Photo“ delivers a good compromise between quality and print speed. The best image quality is delivered when selecting „Best Photo“.

Select the correct paper path under “Source”.

Under „Type“ select the chosen media.

The paper size can be selected under „Size“.

Under the drop down menu „size“ tick on the box „borderless“ and close the printer driver by pressing „ok“, the selected settings will be saved. Now printing will be started by pressing “print” in the Picasa print dialogue.
