How To Create An ASSET Account To Use United Streaming Videos

ASSET wants each teacher to register with their own Username and Password. You will complete two registrations. One in ASSET and one in Unitedstreaming. You will only do this once and then you will log on each time with your new Username and Password. To register, follow the steps below:

1. Double click on Internet Explorer

2. Click in the Address box and type: asset.asu.edu and press the Enter key.

3. Click on the words Ready to Activate Your Account above the ASU logo.

4. Click on the tab Create New Account on the right hand side.

5. To make your selection for each question, click on the down arrow at the end of each

box.

7. District Tucson Unified District (When you scroll through the list, Tucson Unified

District is not in alphabetical order.)

8. School (find your school)

9. Click on the tab Save My School

10. Asset Coordinator Last Name type south and click on the tab Create My Account

11. Certificated Staff appears and click on the tab Save Staff Position

12. Select all that apply for Grades and Subjects

13. Click on the tab Save Grade/Subjects

14. Type in Personal Information.

For Login ID and Password, use the same name and password that you use to log on

to your Compaq at school.

Your e-mail address will be the one you use in the district. (your first name , type a

period, your last name @tusd.k12.az.us For example, [email protected])

Be sure to include area code along with your school’s phone number.

15. Click on the tab Save Changes.

16. Type in a question you want them to ask you if you forget your password

17. Enter the answer.

18. Click on the tab Save Password Question

19. Your information appears. Print the information for future reference

20. Click Enter into ASSET Portal

Now, you are going to complete the registration for United Streaming Videos:

1. Click on the yellow tab Curriculum Resources at the top of the window.

2. Click on the blue words Video on Demand

3. The registration form appears. Complete the form.

4. Remember, they are asking for your school’s address and area code-telephone number

5. Your e-mail address will be the one you use in the district. (your first name , type a

period, your last [email protected] For example, [email protected])

6. Change the Desired Username that ASSET has listed with the word Asset and a

number. Highlight this number and type in a new Username. Keep it simple; it has to be

different than your ASSET username. For example, if you log on to ASSET as sbrown,

use susanbrown for the desired Username

7. Your password can be the same as your Compaq log on password

8. Click on the down arrow to select a password reminder question

9. Type in the answer

10. Be sure to click in the box I have read and agree to the terms of use.

11. Click on the word Continue

12. Unitedstreaming appears. Now, when you want to use Unitedsteaming videos, go to

Using United Streaming Videos

United Streaming has over 2,000 educational videos that you can download from the Internet. You can search by a key search word or by curriculum standards. You can download the entire video or specific clips. You may view the videos and/or clips individually.

To Download A Video:

1. Double click on Internet Explorer

2. Type in the address: http://asset.asu.edu and press the Enter key

3. Click on the word Favorites, drag to Add to Favorites…

4. Highlight the words in the Name box and type in ASSET.

5. Click on the word OK. ASSET will now be in your Favorites.

6. Click in the User ID box and type: (your registered User ID name which is your

computer log on name)

7. Click in the Password box and type: (your registered password, which is your computer

log on password)

8. Click on the word submit

9. Click on the word NO

10. Click on the yellow tab Curriculum Resources

11. Click on the blue words Video on Demand

12. You can search for the videos by:

13. Typing in a Keyword

14. Selecting Subject, Topic, and Grade. Use the down arrows to make a selection


15. Selecting the videos by Curriculum standards

16. If you search by Curriculum standards, select a category and grade by clicking on the down arrow.

a. Click on the word go.

b. Scroll through the objectives and once you find the objective you want to work on

click on the words Videos meeting this standard.

17. Or this will give you an entire of list of videos available by

subject.

18. Whatever method you use to search for the video, scroll through the list of videos and

once you find the video you want to download, click on the title of the video.

19. The name listed first in dark purple is the entire video and the playing time is listed, the

separate clips in the video have shorter playing times. You may download an entire

video, if it is 5-10 minutes long, or select specific clips from a video. Notice that the

video and the clips tell you the amount of minutes it takes to play them.

20. Right click on the of the video you want

21. Left click on the words Save Target As…

22. Click on the down arrow in the save in box to New Volume {E:} This is the hard drive

on your computer, not a server. This is the preferred place to save the videos. If you

cannot save on the E drive your Site Network Technician can fix this. Contact the Center

for directions. See below for alternative places to save. *


23. Create a new folder by clicking on the second yellow folder. It is helpful to keep all the

clips from one video together.

24. Give the folder a name then double click on the folder, the folder will open.

25. If you are downloading a section of a video at a time it would be helpful to number the

clips to remember the sequence of the movie. Click at the beginning of the title be sure

that the title is not highlighted, and type in a number.

27. Click on the word Save. When the download is complete, click on the word Close.

28. Follow steps 13 – 17 and 23, for each clip you would like to download. The folder you

created will stay open.

*If you are unable to save to the E drive and you are in an Elementary School, use the S drive.

When you save to the Activities on Inst_ Server the students can get to it with their user name and so can other teachers in your building.If you are not in an Elementary School you may also save to your My Documents Folder.

To View A Clip or Short Video:1. Double click on where you saved the video:

a. My Computer and then double click on New Volume {E:}.

b. Activities Server

c. My Documents Folder

2. Double click on the folder that you saved the video in.


3. To see the videos or video clips in a list, click on the word View from the menu bar, click on

the word List.

4. Double click on the video clip or short video.

5. Media Player will appear and the video will begin playing:

Click on the middle icon with the angled arrow (near the vertical line) of the Media

Player window. . This will give you a full screen or type Alt and Enter to view the video full screen.

Press Ctrl P to pause the video and then press Ctrl P again to continue playing the video.

To go back to the smaller screen, press Esc

If you have trouble hearing the video, right click on the volume control icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Click on the words Open Volume Controls. Make sure all of the options have the bar raised slightly and are not checked mute.

Ideas For Using United Streaming Videos:1. Look at the bottom of the video clips list. Sometimes the video you selected will offer

you BlackLine Masters (worksheets) and/or a Teacher’s Guide. 2. Calendar of historical events/videos. Click on the tab Learning Resources from the

Menu Bar and click on the word Calendar. You can click on a date and select a historical event and a video will play. To view the video full screen, right click on the video and click on the word Full Screen. Left click on the mouse to pause the video while playing. Press ESC to exit the full screen.

3. Sample lessons are available click on the tab Learning Resources from the Menu Bar and click on the word Submit Materials.

4. Click on Sample Lessons.5. Look at the Anger lesson for a great sample. Click on Download.Zip, click Open and

click on the yellow folder and select the E Drive or My Documents.

United Streaming Addendum For Speech Teachers With Black Compaq’s And Teachers With Older Versions Of Internet Explorer:

When downloading a clip if a series of letters and numbers appear next to file name…

1. Highlight the name of the clip you would like to download. (A is for Alligator) Right

click on your highlighted words, left click on the word Copy.

The file name is highlighted, right click on the name and then left click on the word

Paste. (If there is a colon in the name, remove it. The computer will say invalid name.)

If you are downloading all the clips of an entire movie, it may be helpful to place a

number after each clip to remember the sequence.
