How to set up GV Edge Recording Manager v1.3
When you first open the GV Edge Recording Manager application, it will look like it does below. While
there are many features, we’ll only cover the ones that are required to view your Sentry Surveillance
RealEyes System remotely. Take note of several icons at the top of the window.
Main Menu
Configure Batch Update Wizard
Search Host
Host List IO List Remote Playback
Configure: Includes network and startup settings for when you load the program. You can also change
the color scheme.
Batch Update Wizard: Includes options for setting up multiple cameras, and storage if you record things.
For our setup, you won’t use any of the features found here.
Host Search: Attempts to automatically detect any cameras or GV systems on your network. Sometimes
this will work, however if not, just use the following Host List option.
Host List: Where you can manually add your system or individual cameras.
IO List: Not used for our systems.
Remote Playback: Reopens the last camera you selected for remote playback.
Live View Options
There are two sections to the live view options. The first are the layout options.
Simply click on the appropriate layout for the cameras you want to view. In order they are 4, 6, 8, 9, 10,
13, 16, 25, 36, 49, and 64.
Note: To view more than 32 cameras at one time, you must purchase a separate license that will unlock
the ability to see more than 32 cameras. Please see your Sentry account representative for more
information!
The next set of options cover how to change the views you’re looking at.
Favorites Live View Setup

Favorites: Allows you to set different groups of cameras and easily switch between them just by clicking
the Favorites button and then selecting the group you want to view. More on this below.
Live View Setup: Sets up display options for the cameras, and allows you to set which monitor, if you
have multiple monitors, will display a full screen window if you want to view in full screen.

Close All Video: Removes all cameras from the live view window.
Snap Shot: Allows you to take a single snap shot from all of the currently open camera images.
Monitor and Stop All Monitoring are not used nor needed for our setup.
Now that we’ve gone over the basic options and
menus, let’s go over adding your Sentry Surveillance
RealEyes system to the application so you can view
your cameras remotely.
To add the cameras for your system you’re going to
want to click on the host list icon, or press the F5 key
on your keyboard or click on the Host List icon at
the top in the main menu.
Click on the sign. This opens a small menu where
you’ll want to click on the Add VMS/DVR/NVR option
as shown on the left.
This opens the Host Settings window as you see
below.
Host Name: Can be whatever you choose.
Address: This will be the IP address or
dipmap.com address that Sentry set up for you
at the time of install.
ID: The username or ID that you want to use.
By default, it is manager.
Password: The password associated with the
username you want to use. For default
password information, contact Sentry Technical
Support.
You do not need to worry about the Use
Remote Authentication or any of the Device
Information options.
Unless specified by Sentry technical support, all
ports should remain as they are entered in.
Once you have all the information entered in,
click on Update Information. If all the
information is correct, you’ll get the following prompt:
If you received that prompt, go ahead and click OK on the Host Settings window if the information was
updated successful. If not, review the information entered to make sure there were no typos. If you still
are unable to get the “Update system information successfully” box, contact Sentry for further
assistance.
If everything went well, your host list should now look like this.
Now for the hard part! Simply drag and
drop the host you just created to the top
left empty panel. You’ll see your cameras
populate across all panels.
IMPORTANT: You’ll need to click the Save
button on the left side of the Host List
menu. If not, the next time you load the
application, the host you added will not
be there!
Before you’re finished, remember you can change how many cameras you can see at one time clicking
on the layout icons lining the stop of the Live View window. If you don’t see all of your cameras after
dragging and dropping the host name, it’s quite possible that you just need to change the layout to one
that displays more cameras at one time. You can also adjust this down if necessary.
What if I have a lot of cameras and want to set them up as groups?
That’s easy!
If you have any cameras on your screen, click on the Close All icon. This will clear all of the cameras
you currently have in your view. Next, open the host list using the F5 key on your keyboard or by clicking
the Host List icon.
Click on the + sign next to the
name of your camera system. In
this example, it’s Host 1. Then
click on the + sign next to
Camera List. That will open the
list of cameras. Go through and
select each camera you want to
set up in a single group.
Remember, change your layout
to match the number of cameras
you want for that group!
SAVE!
Next, click on the Favorites icon and it opens a menu
similar to the one shown on the right.
Click on the Add to List option and you’ll be prompted what
you want to name the group. Try to name it according to how
you want to organize the cameras, say Sales, or Parking Lot.
Click OK, and if you click on the Favorites icon again, you’ll
see it show the Parking Lot option at the bottom of the
menu.
To add another group, just repeat the process.
First click the Close All icon.
Open your Host List and drag and drop the cameras you
want for the second group as you did before.
Select the layout that best matches the number of cameras
you’re currently viewing.
Click the Favorites icon one more time. Click Add to List.
Name the group.
When you have your groups created, your Favorites menu should look similar to
the image on the right.
Any time you want to change groups, just click on the Favorites icon and select the
appropriate group you want to view!
Listening to Audio
By default, audio doesn’t play through but with a
simple right click of the camera you want to
listen to, mouse over Audio, and then click on
Wave Out.
Reviewing Footage
When you wish to review recorded footage, right click and select
Remote Playback. A window like the one shown on the right will pop
up.
In the top right, you’ll see the camera you selected. On the right
panel, you’ll have two sections. The top one has your months and
date. Simply scroll up to find earlier dates or to look at a different
month.
After selecting your date, select the time you need to view for that date.
Playback Controls
Slider: Allows you to browse through the selected clip. Simply click and drag
the blue slider and move it left and right to speed through the clip.
Play: Plays the selected clip forward.
Pause: Pauses the selected clip and the current time. Press Play to resume.
Stop: Stops the current clip. Pressing play will start the clip from the beginning.
Home: While paused, this will return the beginning of the selected clip.
Previous Frame: While paused, you’ll go back to the previous video frame.
Next frame: While paused, you can forward to the next frame.
End: While paused, this moves you to the end of the current clip.

Saving a Clip
While the Remote Playback option doesn’t have a Backup option,
there is are options that allow you to save a video clip and take a snap
shot. First, Pause or Stop the current clip. Right click on the
image and you’ll see three options: Play Mode, Render, and Tools.
Mouse over tools, and you’ll see three more options: Snap Shot, Save as Avi, and Download. Remember,
to use these options, you must first either Stop or Pause the playback.
Snap Shot: Allows you to save a single image of the frame you’re currently looking at. When you save a
snap shot, you’ll be prompted with a box that gives you a chance to choose where you want to save the
clip. I recommend picking an easy location to save the image, like your Pictures folder.
Save as Avi: Allows you to create and save a smaller clip from the currently selected clip. At the top
you’ll notice two images and sliders. On the left if your start time. On the right is your end time. Adjust
the time frame you want by moving the Start and End time sliders. You can also type in the hour,
minute, and seconds if you know the precise time frame you need. Next, click on the Setting tab.
On the Setting tab, you’ll
need to start with the
location you want the file to
be saved. Click on the button
on the far right side of the
Sete Location section to
change the location for where
you want to have the file
saved to.
Once you have the location
picked you’ll need to select
the format for the save. There
are two options you will need
to select in order to allow the
clip to be played on other
computers, Save as Exe, or
Codec Selection.
If you choose Save as Exe, the
video file will be saved as an
application. Some Anti-Virus
software packages may
automatically assume the file
is a threat and delete it, or at
the very lease prevent it from running.
Click to set
location
Codec Selection allows you to change which codec you want the videos to be saved as. Geo H264 is a
software specific codec which most computers are unable to read. WMV9 is the standard Windows
Media Codec and will easily play on Windows based PCs and Laptops.
NOTE: It’s incredibly important that you use one of those options! If not, the files will not be able to
play on most any computer that does not already have the software installed.
Press OK and the following status box appears.
Once it is complete, the Status will show that it is. Simply click the X in the top right to close the window.
Your file is now saved!
Download: Downloads a copy of the full clip with no changes. Not recommended for most people due to
the same issues described above.
