What is Podcasting• The word “podcasting” is a combination the words “broadcasting”

and “iPod.”• Podcasting is a form of audio broadcasting on the Internet.• You subscribe to podcasts much like you subscribe to blogs using RSS

Feeds• A Podcast is usually recorded in a “talk radio” format then uploaded

to a site where the listener can listen to the audio recording.• RSS (Really Simple Syndication) to syndicate or subscribe to the feed

of a website, blog or almost any media content online


Why• It’s easy to get noticed•Monetizable content • It’s easy to produce content • Networking • Social Media • Attract a new audience• Prove your chops.


Steps To Creating a Podcast• Choose a distinct theme: Choose a topic that you’re passionate

about.• Choose a format: Your podcast represents the way your show is

arranged. • Choose structure: Generally, podcasts have a host who invites guests

to have a conversation on a specific topic chosen in advance, but structure does vary greatly depending on the selected content and how you wish to go about it.

• Episode length — How long do you want your podcast to be• Script it —Pre-write at least an introduction to begin

each segment. • Scheduling — How often will your podcast air new

episodes? Weekly or biweekly tends to be the norm for most.

• iTunes• iTunes is without doubt is the big kid on the block and if you don’t

submit your podcast to any other directory then you should at the very least submit your podcast to this directory.

• To submit your podcast to iTunes you will need to have a copy of iTunes running on your computer, aniTunes account and your RSS feed URL.

• Stitcher• Stitcher is an excellent and rapidly growing place to submit your

podcast to and they also provide some interesting statistics about the downloads of your podcast and the listening habits of your subscribers.

• Stitcher is available as an app for smartphones and is also installed in the in car entertainment systems of over 60 different vehicle models.


Directories for podcast and itunes

• Tunein Radio• Tunein is available as a mobile app and as a

website for listening to podcasts and radio shows and they are currently looking to enhance their offerings to podcasters.• To submit your podcast to this directory you need to e-

[email protected] with your show’s title, geographical location,cover art (1200 x 1200px, JPG or PNG, < 2MB), RSS feed URL, website address, genre, twitter handle (optional) and your e-mail address.
