HowtoSubmitaSloanResearchFellowshipNominationUsingInterfolio.comThe process involves uploading documents, filling out forms, and sending the information to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Interfolio
calls this process a “delivery” and the institution your documents will be delivered to a “destination.”
The process outlined in this document is broken up into six sections:
1. Select Fellowship Field – Select the fellowship field for which you have been nominated
2. Add Documents – Add documents you must supply yourself
3. Request Documents – Request confidential recommendation letters from your nominator and letter writers
4. Complete Forms – Fill out forms required by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
5. Submit Nomination – Submit your nomination to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
6. Submit Letters – Submit your nomination and support letters
SelectFellowshipField–Selectthefellowshipfieldforwhichyouhavebeennominated
1. Click on the appropriate link at http://www.sloan.org/sloan‐research‐fellowships/apply‐online/
2. Read through the fellowship description. If you meet all the qualifications, click Apply
3. Login to Interfolio. (If you do not have an account, click Sign up. There is no charge to create an account via one
of our Interfolio landing pages)
4. Once you have signed in, you will be put directly into the application/delivery process for the fellowship you
selected in step 1.

5. For each required document that you must supply yourself (i.e., CV, personal research statement, and two
representative articles), click the +Add button and use the dropdown menu to select the appropriate file from
your Interfolio document library. If you don’t have the appropriate file in your library, click Upload New File to
add the appropriate document.
RequestDocuments–RequestconfidentialrecommendationlettersfromyournominatorandletterwritersTo ensure confidentiality, nomination and support letters must be uploaded by the letter writers themselves. When you click +Add for
those documents, you will be able request the letters from your letter writers. Once each letter is submitted to your account by the
letter writer, you will be able to select it from the dropdown menu. If this is not your first time being nominated for a Sloan Research
Fellowship, you must request a new nomination letter and new letters of support for this year's nomination.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Whenever requesting recommendation letters for Sloan Research Fellowships, do so directly within the application process for the fellowship. Do not request the letter via your Interfolio document library. Those letters will not be available to fulfill the fellowship’s nomination and support letter requirements.
6. Click +Add for the Sloan Confidential SRF Nomination Letter requirement, then click request recommendation.

A new tab (or window) will open up in your browser that will take you to a page where you can request the
letter from your nominator.

7. Enter your nominator’s information.
a. In the Document Title, change “Recommendation” to “Nomination Letter”
b. Although it’s not required, you should indicate a due date for your letter. We recommend using a date
that is at least two weeks before the nomination submission deadline (i.e. September 2).
8. Click Continue, then select Email as the Request Method

9. Include a short message to your nominator then click Send Request
10. You will get a confirmation that your request has been sent. Close this tab (be careful not to close the browser)
and go back to the tab with the application

11. The Add Document: Choose Confidential Document dialogue will still be visible. Click Cancel. (Once your
nomination letter has been submitted to your Interfolio document library, you will be able to select it from the
dropdown menu).
12. Click +Add for the Sloan Confidential SRF Support Letter requirement, then click request recommendation.
Follow step 7 to 11 with the exception that you will enter your support writer’s information and, in the
Document Title, change “Recommendation” to “Support Letter”
13. Follow step 12 two more times to request the additional required support letters
14. Click Continue

CompleteForms–FilloutformsrequiredbytheAlfredP.SloanFoundationSpecialization categories (if required to select one) are just to aid the committee in streamlining the review process. You should select
the one category that best fits your area of work. Do not worry if no category is an especially good match, your nomination will be
fully considered no matter which category you are listed under.
15. Fill out all four forms required by the Sloan Foundation
a. Enter Educational Information. Click Continue.
b. Enter Nominee Information. Click Continue.
c. Enter Nominator Information. Click Continue.
d. Enter Support Writer Information. Click Continue.
e. Enter Diversity Survey Information. Click Continue.

16. You will be able to review and/or edit any information you’ve entered. Once you’re ready to submit your
application, click Complete Application. (If you prefer to wait until you have received all your recommendation
letters, click Close instead. Your information will be saved and you will be able to return to this page at a later
time to add the appropriate letters to your application.)

17. You will get a confirmation that your application has been delivered to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. (Note: if
you chose to Close the application you will not see this page until you have submitted the application)
SubmitLetters–SubmityournominationandsupportlettersAs confidential materials arrive in your account, Interfolio will send you an e‐mail confirmation for each. You can choose to add those
letters to your nomination as they arrive, or wait until you have all of them available in your account. Either way, follow the steps
below to have those materials appended to your already submitted documents.
18. Sign into your account
19. Click on Deliveries (it is located in the gray box on the right side of the page)

20. Click Edit for the appropriate destination
21. Click Edit Documents
22. Click on +Add for appropriate document you are adding to your application

23. Select the appropriate document from the dropdown menu and click Done.

24. Click +Add to add any other letters you have received. When finished, click Continue.
25. Click Continue until you’ve gone through all pages of the application. Once you reach the Review & Confirmation
page, feel free to exit Interfolio at any time.
Note: if you initially chose not to submit your application, you will have to option to submit it (Complete
Application) or save & close it (Close)
