13 Tips for Virtual Teaching/ Interviewing
1. Make sure you have a good internet connection and camera.
2. Make sure your battery is charged.
3. Stage your background minimizing clutter and anything with words
or movement.
4. Set up lighting facing you, not behind you.
5. Place your camera to optimize the frame and stabilize it.
6. Determine if you need a plugged in microphone.
7. Choose a proper seat if you are not standing.
13 Tips for Virtual Teaching/ Interviewing
8. Hair and makeup should be bolder than usual, but not comical.
9. Attire should be unpatterned and colorful, and appropriate and
complete.
10. Body language matters.
11. Diminish eye darting by placing your notes near your camera, not beside
the keyboard.
12. Don’t eat or drink or chew gum.
13. Remember to pause without filler words throughout your presentation.

• Click your profile picture to see your meeting settings and schedule Zooms
• TIP: When sharing Zoom invitations via Outlook, be sure to put the Zoom link and password in the LOCATION field so it appears on the Outlook reminder

• While virtual backgrounds can be distracting, they could also be a tool to engage audience members
• You should consider NOT using a virtual background if you are giving a highly clinical/ professional lecture/ interview

Avoid Zoom Fatigue
• Be animated and colorful
• Use tools and apps embedded in Zoom or outside Zoom to encourage interaction
• Offer breaks to make people stand up and stretch – fanny fatigue
