How to Use Google Earth forGPS Coordinates & Maps

coordinates for your hemp locations

Four easy steps...

Step 1

All future use of Google

Earth will now default to the

correct coordinate format.

Navigation,

GPS of YourLocation,

and

Setting the Pin

Step 1: Enter Address in search

bar and click “Search”button.

Step 2: Google Earth

zooms into the address.

(red pin) Step 3: Use scroll wheel & mouse,

or controls in upper right corner

of window to move around map

and zoom in and out.

NOTE:You can also enter GPS

coordinates in the search bar.

Step 4:Drop

a pin by

clicking on

the thumb

tack button.

Step 5: The pindefault

color is yellow.

Step 6: A window also appears that will contain the

Lat/Long of the pin point in the correct format. You can

copy and paste these coordinates onto KDA forms.

NOTE:You

can

customize

the pin

color and

icon by

clicking on

the pin in

this

window.

Add a Pin to a FieldStep 1: Clickthe

thumb tack

button.

Step 2: A pin

will appear on

the map, anda

new window

called “Edit

Placemark”

will pop open.Step 4: Typethe

name of your

field Location

ID in the

“Name”field.

Step 3: Click on the

pin and hold the

mouse button down,

then drag and drop

the pin to the center

of your field.Step 5: When

done editing,

click OK to close

the window.

Step 1:Click on“Add Polygon”button.

Step 2: Click

corner of field,

then continue to

click around the

perimeter of the

field until the

whole field is

outlined. If you

mess up and

need to start

over, just close

the pop-up

window by

clicking“cancel”

at the bottom.

In the pop-up window,

click on the“Style,Color”

tab.

Under the“Lines”area:

1) Change the color by

clicking on the white

box, selecting acolor

in the second pop-up

window, and then

clicking“OK”.

2) Increase the width of

the line to at least 3 pt.

In the“Area”field,change

the Opacity to 0%.

NOTE: This is

a critical step;

KDA must be

able to see

the land area

inside the

polygon.

Changing the

opacity to 0%

turns the

polygon area

from white to

clear.

Step 4:

On the

“Measurements”

tab, change the

“Area” drop-

down to Acres.

The acreage

inside your

polygon will

auto calculate.

Click “OK” to

close the pop-

up window

Click the

“Print”button

in the toolbar.

Your screen

will change to

Print Layout,

and some new

boxes will

appear on

screen.

To edit the title,

click on the

box, and a

small pop-up

window will

appear. Enter

your edits to

the pop-up

window. Must

include your

name and the

location

address.

Clicking the

“Map Options”

button will

allow you to

remove the

default

Legend.

Click anywhere

on the screen

to exit this

menu.

Step 4:

In the toolbar, click

the “Print” button

for a paper copy,or

“Save PDF” for a

PDF copy.

Tech is Not for EveryoneToo much tech for you? Don’t worry!

You can still submit a map to KDA...• Print a COLOR map of your location from any mapping program

(Google Maps,MapQuest,Yahoo Maps,etc.).

• Handwrite the information – legibly! – on the map. Use a sharpie or a wide marker so the information is clear.– Your Name

– Address of the location (NOT your mailing address)

– Draw a point on each building and in each field being requested for registration

– Write the Location ID next to the point– If the location is a field, draw an outline of the area where you

propose to grow hemp

– Provide the GPS coordinates on a separate page, which also includes the corresponding address(s) and Location ID(s).
