How To Use MrV’s Sums Table
For Addition• Table Terminology• Adding Two 1-Digit Numbers• Adding a 1-Digit Number to a Longer Number• Handling Zeroes in Addition
There are 9 table Rows,
Row 1 through Row 9
Each Row has 10 Cells,Cell 0 thru Cell 9.
Each Cell holds 3 numbers:The Sum (big number)
and its 2 Addends
Sums Table Terminology: Row, Cell, Addends, Sum
For example, this is Row 5:
For example, this is Cell 6 in Row 5.
In this Cell, the Sum is 11 and theAddends are 5 + 6.
5 6
7 + 8=?1. Find the Rowfor the first Addend
2. Look across the Row until you see both Addends on the bottom
3. The big number above them is their Sum
15
Adding Two 1-digit Numbers7 + 8
In this case, it’s Row 7:
In this case, it’s 7 + 8
7 plus 8is 15
Ok, let’s try a few: Click when you find the Sum

Two-step AddingMost people know simple sums like: 3 + 4 = 7 and adding a digit to numbers that end in 0: 20 + 7 = 27So 42 + 3 = 40 + 2 + 3 = 40 + 5 = 45 but, WHY?
You try:26 + 3 = 20 + 9 = 297 + 61 = 60 + 8 = 68Sometimes, there is a Carry:
34 + 7 = 30 + 11 = 41
You try:79 + 5 = 70 + 14 = 846 + 38 = 30 + 14 = 448 + 22 = 20 + 10 = 3095 + 8 = 90 + 13 = 103
25 + 9=?1. Find the Row: Use 1st Addend’s units digit 3. Add the Addend’s
tens digit to the tens digit of the Sum (do in your head)
Adding a 1-digit Number to any 2-digit Number
5 + 9
In this case, it’s Row 5:
2 added to the tens digit of 14 makes 34 the Final Sum2. Find the sum of the
Addend units digits In this case, it’s 5 + 9 = 14
14 +2
