How to Use Pinterest for Marketing If you haven’t already heard of Pinterest, then you may have been living under a rock for the last few weeks. Over the last month, the picture sharing website has exploded with growth and draws hundreds of thousands of hits per day. But what does Pinterest mean for the internet marketing community?

Well, like any popular ‘it’ site, Pinterest has the potential to draw herds of traffic to your website. Today, we’re going to show you exactly how to do that – even if you have never used Pinterest before in your life.

Pinterest basics

Pinterest Marketing allows users to share pictures they like with their network of friends. These pictures can be funny, shocking, beautiful, whatever: users manage boards based around a certain theme, and they collect images that relate to that theme. A ‘War is Bad’ themed Pinterest board might have pictures of child soldiers in Africa or of the beaches in Normandy after D-Day.

Once you pin something to your board, family and friends can comment on your pictures and repin it to their own boards. It’s basically an online scrapbook: you can create a bulletin board that tells people who you are with just a few pictures.

Pinterest Marketing is currently hovering around 62 on the Alexa rankings, which means that it has a lot of potential traffic that you can capture. And, best of all, this traffic isn’t like your typical social media aggregator. While a post on Reddit’s front page might create tens of thousands of views over just a few hours before disappearing the next day, Pinterest’s ‘repin’ feature can help your content stay fresh across the entire website.
