How To Write A Blog: 80 Power Words To Entice New Readers ToYour Blog

You may think that you know how to write a blog, but writing a blog isn't the same thing as writing a headline that willattract readers to click on, and read, your blog in the first place!

Many of us who're writing business blogs wonder:

"But how can I make my topic seem interesting and exciting?"

It's important to remember that your target new reader wants to find information that will:

Help them get better business results

Interest them, as it's industry-related

Give them something useful that they didn't have before (such as knowledge, a tool, etc)

This means that they're going to be open to reading your blog which should already tick one or all of these boxes.Let's assume that they find your blog by searching for a term that they need help with using a search engine. Youshould have already optimised your blog on this topic to be found by such a searcher, but how do you then entice themto click on your blog amongst the many search results?

You will use 'power words' to prick their interest.

No power words in your title = boring blogs.

Boring blogs = no clicks and readers.

Read on as I take you through what power words are, how to use them, and give 50 great options to get you started...

What Are Power Words?

Power words are the peacocks of the literary world! They're colourful, descriptive, and will grab attention; evoking apositive response from the reader. This could be an emotional response, such as the feeling of needing to discovermore about a topic.

These words would usually be descriptive adjectives, such as, " Stunning," or verbs like, "Join."

Power words must be used sparingly, and in context though; used out of context, and they become plain old words, and will not be attractive.

How To Write A Blog Using Power Words.

In order to learn how to write a blog with power words you first of all need to understand what kinds of feelings thesewords will evoke, or what functions they will play when read in your blog.

I'd suggest using your power words in:

Your headline (title) is a MUST (get help with titles here)

Your blog's description that shows up in search engine results

Sub-headings which keep your reader interested

CTAs (Calls to action) where you are persuading the reader to click

A big part of deciding how to write a blog for your company is planning the headline, or title. In fact, this one small lineof no more than 70 characters is the most important part of your blog!

Why? Because this is the single most important element that will get new readers to click on your blog, and startreading!

Titles are so important, in my opinion, that I devoted a whole chapter of my FREE E-book: " Better Business BloggingFor Chinese Companies Masterclass," to writing excellent titles!

Every blog is different, and so you may have use for all, or only a few of the following power words. However, to makeit easier to use these words in context, I have split them up into smaller, related, groupings in the next section.

80 Brilliant Power Words You Should Be Using.

Use these power words and make your blogs much more attractive and likely to be read!

Persuasive Words

These are David Ogilvy's '20 Most Persuasive English Words' from 1963. You may think that they are old, and you're

right; but Ogilvy was the father of copy-writing, and still remains an authority on writing to this day.

I'd also add the next 5 words to the list, which are considered to be today's most persuasive words:I think 'you' is especially a good choice, as by using it you speak to the reader, and make your blog seem to apply tothem in a more personal way.

Exciting Words

Making a reader feel excited to learn what your blog is about is a great way to get them to read it, so here are 10exciting words:

Positive Words

People are more attracted to positivity. This is as true for words, as it is for our behaviour.

"Awesome" is missing from this list as it is grossly over-used these days, and as such should be used sparingly, if atall.

Cause & Effect Phrases or Words

If you truly want your reader to understand why following your blog's advice, or buying the product mentioned in it, willbenefit them. If they can see a firm benefit, then they're of course much more likely to want to keep reading.

1. Accordingly

2. As a result

3. Because

4. Caused by

5. Consequently

6. Due to

7. For this reason

8. Since

9. Therefore

10. Thus

For example, you might say something like: " The 5 positive effects on your business that you'll see due tothis one simple change."

Tempting Words

Perhaps you're making some kind offer, whether it be a sale item, or some information that could help your readersave money? Everyone likes a bargain or to save money! Tempt the reader to keep reading with these seductivewords:

Words To Increase Curiosity

I love to tempt people's sense of curiosity! Everyone wants to learn or do something that most people don't knowabout, and everyone wants to be different.

Words To Add Time Pressure To Your Reader

It may be one of the oldest tricks in the book, but by making the reader think that time is running out to do, or get, something, they're compelled to keep reading as long as the subject is interesting for them.

These are quite 'salesy' words, and so be warned if using them often, as being sold to can turn off readers. However, ifyou have a legitimate offer, or a hot tidbit of information that is only valid for a short while, then these words will do thetrick for you.

Your Turn...

There are probably many, many more power words that you can use when writing a blog. Do you have anysuggestions for us? The comments section below is the ideal place to share them!
