Why CPaT mobile

After the iPad was introduced in 2010, the tablet market has grown in size and demand. Mobile

access to digital data has allowed for several industries to provide their employees and clients

with information on demand almost anywhere. This has created a desire among tablet users to

have this information whether or not they are connected to the internet.

Taking preemptive measures CPaT decided to build an App to allow the thousands of CPaT

users to do just that.

The majority of CPaT users are pilots and flight attendants. These professions require yearly

training to maintain currency to be eligible for their job.

For many year, CPaT has provided both recurrent and initial computer based training (CBT) in

conjunction with the training facilities to meet these requirements.

All of the CBT is available online at any time, so the users can train whenever they desire as

long as they have internet access.

Now with CPaT mobile the same CBT courseware can be downloaded and available offline for

when Internet Access is unavailable.

General Information

CPaT mobile is a full screen landscape

App. This means that the App takes up

100% of the available screen space and

is properly viewed with the device on its

side. See Right

Since the App is full screen the time,

date, and battery level are displayed in

the top right corner.

The App is currently only available on the

iPad iOS 5.0 or later, but CPaT is looking

to provide the App on other popular tablet

platforms in the near future.

Usage Requirements

In order to use the App, each user must have an online CPaT LMS account and be granted App

access via that account.

Page 4: Howto

~ 4 ~

The available assignments and documents that are device compatible can be downloaded to

the device and viewed locally, or the App can be used to open the online account and view the

content through the device's browser.

The App has a single device restriction that prevents the account from being activated on

multiple devices. Make sure when you activate your account you are using the device that you

plan on using for the entire time you need access to CPaT mobile.

Note: If you need to reset the device being used you can contact CPaT to reset your CPaT

mobile device but the previous device will become inactive and your stored data could be lost.

Logging In

Login Fields

Once you have been informed you have access to use the App associated with your CPaT LMS

account you will be able to login to the App from the login screen.

The User ID and Password are the same as the

online LMS account login credentials.

The LMS drop down box displays all CPaT LMSs that

have been granted access through the App.

You will find your LMS ID in this list. If you don't know

your LMS ID you can find it located on the bottom of

the LMS login screen. See Below

Page 5: Howto

Login Options

Located below the login fields are two login options.

1. Save ID - This saves the User ID in the App database so you will not have to retype the

ID each time you login to the App.

2. Stay Logged In - This option becomes available once you have selected Save ID. With

this selected you will not be asked to login again until you logout. Stay Logged In will

keep you logged in when you leave the App or if you restart the device.

Note: If the option Stay Logged In is not checked then anytime you leave the App you

will be automatically logged out of the App. Your data is automatically saved but you will

be forced to login again the next time you open the App.

Login Page Buttons

Located below the login options are three login page buttons.

1. Login

a. If the credentials are accepted then you will be logged into the App. If it is your

first time logging into the App it will automatically synchronize with the online

account. Synchronizing first uploads any stored data on the App and then pulls

down the changes to your assignments.

b. If you have logged in before and you are connected to the internet you will be

asked if you want to synchronize the App with your online account. Although this

is recommended you do not have to sync the App to continue using it.

c. If your credentials are not accepted, a message will display below the buttons

indicating why you were unable to login.

Page 6: Howto

~ 6 ~

2. Reset - This button resets the login fields and options to the default.

3. Information (I) - This button displays an information box on top of the login box

indicating the login requirements.

Note: Internet access is required on the initial login to activate the App.

Syncing the App

Once you are logged into the App you will have the ability to sync the App whenever you are

connected to the internet.

If you are connected to the Internet when you login, then you will be presented with a message

indicating that it is recommended to sync the App before continuing. You can cancel this by

pressing the CONTINUE button.

Pressing the SYNC button will start the Synchronization process. This process will upload any

data accumulated on the App, then download any modified data from the online account.

Note: All data is checked by the server for accuracy before it is stored online to prevent data

corruption and accurate progress.

Also, when connected to the Internet you will see the SYNC button in the bottom right corner of

the App. Pressing this button at any time will sync the App.

Note: When the App is being synchronized it will be unavailable for use.

Assignments

The assignments page is the default page where you will see all your current assigned

courseware.

Page 8: Howto

~ 8 ~

Display

The assignments will display in the same order as you see them online. All assignments must

be inside a course. Some courses may contain topics that break up the course into a more user

friendly format.

By default only the playable courseware will display. In order for the courseware to be

considered playable it must be able to be viewed inside the devices browser through the online

LMS.

You can have the App display all the assigned courseware by turning the Display Playable

Only setting to OFF. This is located under the Courseware Assignments settings.

Downloading

Downloading your assignments is the primary function of

this App and there are a couple of ways to do this. You can

download the entire course, a topic, or select each module

individually.

If you are downloading a course you may want to turn your

device sleep settings off so the download doesn't get

interrupted.

On the iPad this setting is called Auto-Lock and can

be found under the iPad General Settings Page.

While downloading the files a progress bar will display

indicating the current module download progress. If you are

downloading more than one you will see a counter

indicating the current file number and the total file count to

be downloaded.

Once a file is downloaded, the download button will no

longer be available.

The Size and Date displayed above the button is the size and date of the file online. This is

displayed so you will know how much space the file will take up on your device.

Note: Download speeds depend on your internet connection speed and the size of the files

being downloaded. This may take awhile depending on these two factors.

Note: Not all assignments are downloadable.

Note: Downloading files requires Internet access.

Page 9: Howto

~ 9 ~

Updating

If a file has been downloaded but a newer version of the

file is available for download and you are connected to the

Internet, you will be presented with an update button.

Pressing this button deletes the current version of the file

and downloads the newer version.

The Size and Date displayed above the button is the size

and date of the newer version.

Note: Syncing your App will provide you with available

update information.

Note: If the new file contains the old file date or does not

run correctly, it is likely due to the device cache storing the

old file. To correct this issue you must first delete the old

file, reset the device cache for CPaT mobile, and then

download the file again. To reset the device cache on an iPad see Resetting Device Cache for

the iPad.

Deleting

Deleting your assignments is as simple as pressing a

button. The course, topic, and module levels all have the

ability to delete the downloaded files.

On the module level, a delete button will display if a file is

downloaded and an update is not available.

Pressing the button will remove the file entirely from your

device.

Note: Deleting a file does not affect any records stored by

the file.

Page 10: Howto

~ 10 ~

Playing a file

If a file can be viewed on the device you will presented with one of two play buttons.

Play Online - This button displays if the device is connected to the internet,

the selected file is not downloaded, and it can be played in the device

browser. Pressing this button will present you with a message asking if you

would like to leave the App and open your online account.

Note: Play Online allows you to launch your online account quickly

and take your assignments through the browser rather than first downloading them to

your device.

Note: All data created during playing the file through your online account will be stored

online until you synchronize the App.

Play Local - This button displays if the file has been downloaded. Pressing

this button will launch the file within the App.

Note: All data created during the playing of the downloaded file will be

stored on the device until you synchronize the App.

Unable to Play

If you cannot play the file you will be presented with one of three messages.

If the file is downloadable but you are not connected to the internet then you will see the

message.

"You must be connected to the internet to view/download this module."

If the file is viewable and not downloadable, but you are not connected to the internet then you

will see the message.

"You must be connected to the internet to view this module."

If the file is not viewable on the device then you will see the message.

"This module cannot be viewed on this device."

Documents

The documents page displays all documents that can be viewed on the device. These are the

same documents assigned to your online account.

Display

The documents display in the same order they appear online. The first document is the CPaT

mobile User Guide PDF and cannot be deleted.

On the cover of each document are indicators of the documents status along with the document

title.

The blue "NEW" ribbon wrapped around the top right corner indicates that the

document has not yet been viewed.

A green down arrow indicates that you can download the document to view it.

An eyeball indicates that the file is downloaded and can be viewed in the App.

Page 12: Howto

Viewing Options

Selecting a document will open the Information Box displaying the available options for viewing

the document.

If the document is not downloaded, and the device is connected to the internet you will be given

the option to download the document to the App, or open the document using the devices

browser.

Note: If you open the document in the devices browser you can export the document to another

document reader App.

If the document is downloaded then you will be given the option to Open the document in the

App or delete it.

Note: If the device is connected to the Internet you will also be presented with the option to

open the document in the devices browser.

CPaT News

If the device is connected to the internet, the news button will appear on your App. This button

will display the CPaT News feed allowing you to keep up to date with recent CPaT events.

Settings

The settings page allows you to modify some of the display and operation options of the App.

Time and Date

Since the App is full screen you are given the ability to modify the time and date formats

displayed in the top right corner of the App.

Page 14: Howto

~ 14 ~

Course Assignments

By default, only the assignments that can be viewed on the device are displayed on the

Assignments Page. If you would like to have the App display all assignments and their records

then you must turn the setting Display Playable Only to Off.

Note: You must synchronize the App for this setting to take effect.

Local Storage

The local storage settings control the ability to download and delete the assigned files. From this

settings page you can delegate what levels to allow for file management. By default the Course

Level is selected, allowing you to download and delete files from all levels.

Also on this page you will find the button Delete All Downloads. Pressing this button will

remove all course assignments and documents downloaded through the App.

The other button is the Reset All Data button. This button will reset the App to the default state

and remove all account information. This button should only be used if you are finished with the

App and have synced your records.

Page 15: Howto

~ 15 ~

Theme

This App has a standard (CPaT Light) and low-light (CPaT Dark) theme. From the Theme

setting you can change between these two themes.

Note: The default theme is CPaT Light.

Logout

If you would like to log out of the App, you will find the logout button on

the Settings Page at the bottom of the settings column.

Pressing this button will save all data, reset the Stay Logged In option

on the login screen to OFF if it was turned on, and return you to the

login screen.

Note: If the Save ID option on the login screen was turned ON then

your ID will display in the User ID field on the login page.

Logging out of the App will prevent anyone from gaining access to your
