H.O.Y.A.Helping Our Youth AchieveChildren do well if they can. This simple statement underlies the philosophy of the H.O.Y.A. clinic. It is our feeling that there is no such thing as a ‘bad’ child. Further, children are not simply unmotivated. Rather, there are different “pathways” that lead children to have emotional or behavioral difficulties. The work of H.O.Y.A. clinicians is to identify what is causing the child to have difficulty and then help the child and family determine more beneficial means of dealing with these pathways.

The H.O.Y.A. clinic provides individual and family therapy for children and their families from birth to adolescence. Neal Horen, PhD. is the director of the clinic and has done individual, family and group therapy in private practice in Tampa, Baltimore and the District of Columbia. His focus has been the social-emotional development of young children, and he has extensive experience working with children with explosive behavior.

H.O.Y.A. clinic hours are Tuesdays from 3 pm until 8 pm. An intake appointment of 90 minutes is suggested for the initial meeting in order to determine the most appropriate treatment plan. Treatment plans are developed by the psychologist and the family. Approaches used include cognitive-behavioral therapy, collaborative problem-solving, dyadic therapy and family therapy.

We will be happy to provide you with any information you may need so that you may submit to your insurance company if you choose to do so. However, this is a fee-for-service clinic, and insurance is not accepted. A down payment of approximately half the charges will be expected prior to rendering services.

Questions about the clinic should be directed to Dr. Neal Horen at (202) 687-7447. Services will be provided in the Georgetown University Children’s Medical Center on the 2nd floor of the Pasquerilla Healthcare Center at Georgetown University Hospital. 3800 Reservoir Rd, NW Washington, DC 20007.
