The Skills Used by My Mr. Mehmood Alam Qureshi for Becoming a Successful

    Leader

    1. A HIGH STANDARD OF PERSONAL ETHICS leads the list. Honest Abe Lincoln,

who walked miles to return a customer's change, is a classic example of how personal

ethics are reflected in professional conduct. Decisions made under pressure and/or

temptation separate the great ones from the impostors.

    2. HIGH ENERGY. Great leaders are not exhausted by dealing with petty issues. These

people know right from wrong as well as the difference between what's truly important

    and what merely Interesting is.

    3. The ability to WORK PRIORITIES shares equal importance with setting priorities.

Many brilliant priority lists end up in the landfill of life. The difference between setting

priorities and working them through is the difference between a dreamer and a doer.

    4. COURAGE. The willingness to take risks and accept responsibility for the outcome is

consistent quality among effective leaders. Either you or your fears will control

everything you do. An organization will be no bolder than the leader.

    5. COMMITTED AND DEDICATED HARD-WORKING leaders will eventually developdedicated and hard working organizations regardless of who they start with or the

experience they bring to the job.

    6. UNORTHODOX LEADERS have an urge to create and don't have the patience to

wait for a phone to ring before acting. Effective leaders are innovators who bore easily

and prefer shaping tomorrow to repeating yesterday.

    7. Great leaders have the GOAL ORIENTATION to make tough decisions. Goal

orientation produces a drive and energy that shield us from the pain of the task.

Keeping an organization focused increases efficiency.

    8. INSPIRED ENTHUSIASM is like the pilot light on the oven. Genuine enthusiasm is

contagious. People look to their leaders for enthusiasm. The inspiration level of the

organization is directly proportionate to the enthusiasm of the leader -- be it high or low.

  • 7/31/2019 H.P.L. Final Document on Business Leader

    15/35

    9. LEVEL-HEADED PEOPLE make realistic leaders who respond to problems rather

than simply react. A leader who can stay cool under pressure inspires confidence

among those in the organization and empowers them to do the same.

    10. The DESIRE TO HELP OTHERS succeed is the mark of a truly great leader.

Synergy is created when a leader truly invests his of her efforts in the success of others.

"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care about

    them."

Importance of Leadership in an organization

    1Motive power to group efforts:

Management, for getting the work done by others, is to supply leadership in the

organization. As group efforts and teamwork are essential for realizing organisational

goals, leadership becomes vital for the execution of work.

Through leadership, managers can influence any group of human beings to adopt a

cooperative and wholesome attitude for successful work accomplishment. Leadership

pulls up the group to" a higher level of performance through its work on human

    relations.

    2Aid to authority:

Managers exercise authority in managing people of the organization and their task

becomes easy wherever they are aided by leadership. There are serious limits to the

use of authority and power in obtaining high performance.

Authority alone can never generate the initiative and resourcefulness required in many

jobs. But leadership can obtain tangible and improved results of human efforts because

of its main reliance on influence. Leadership contains all the essential ingredients of

direction for inspiring people and providing the will-to-do for successful work

    accomplishment.

    3Emphasis on human performance:

Effective leadership is needed at all levels of management from top-management down

to supervisory management. Management is transformed as a social process through

    leadership action.

It is the social skill of leadership that accomplished objectives by mobilization and

utilization of people. High performance of working people is the focal point in managerial

work. And this high performance can be secured by leadership of supervisory

    management.

    17/35

    4Maladjustment with informal organization:

If management fails to provide competent leadership, informal leadership will prevail

over management in controlling and regulating the behaviour of employees. Being

confronted with such a situation, management fails to influence the workers, to improve

their performance and to stop employee unrest.

Leadership is the natural accompaniment of all associations of human beings. F or their

personal and social contentment, workers are perforce to rely mostly on informal

leadership if management cannot effective leadership. Competent leadership can,

however, integrate informal organizations with formal organization and utilize them

    constructively for achieving company objectives.

    5Basis for co-operation:

Leadership provides the basis for co-operation in several ways. Good two-way

communication, man-to-man personal leadership, use of participation and creation of

opportunity for need satisfaction are meant for increasing the understanding between

the leader and his subordinates of their mutual viewpoints.

This increased understanding through the reactions of individual personalities promotes

favorable feelings and attitudes among them.

Here are some tips while selecting leadership strategy / style:

A leader must be aware of his / her personality traits and those of his team members / followeunderstand which leadership style will be most effective.

A leader may not adopt a consistent leadership all through his / her career. Situational Leadehelps addressing varied needs / expectations of the followers as he the leader adopts a stratebased on a situation he / she is in. In case a leader has a self-reliant team, he needs to be usdirective leadership style or lead form the front. He could instead delegate and provide inputswhere necessary.

A common mistake especially a lot of new leaders make is to copy established / well know leRemember, each situation is unique and so are the followers. A leadership style which may b

suited to a well known leader may not be appropriate for your team. Make no mistake here - dtry and imitate other leaders.

A leader will never be afraid of trying new approach to solve a work problem or address aconflicting situation. It is quite a possibility that a leader adopts a style that is not by the book.

A leader must keep enhancing his / her leadership skills. While on the job experience mattersgetting enrolled into leadership courses after detailed evaluation of the program and feedbackthe participants will help implementing a leadership style more effectively.

    L e a d e r s h i p S t y l e s

Leadership style is the manner and approach of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people. Kurt Lewin (1939) led a group of researchers to identify different

styles of leadership. The Leader which I Inspire the Most Mr. Mehmood Alam Qureshi

follows the Following Style of Leadership

    P a r t i c i p a t i v e ( d e m o c r a t i c )

Let's work together to solve this. . .

This style involves the leader including one or more employees in the decision making

process (determining what to do and how to do it). However, the leader maintains the

final decision making authority. Using this style is not a sign of weakness; rather it is a

sign of strength that your employees will respect. This is normally used when you have

part of the information, and your employees have other parts. Note that a leader is not

expected to know everything this is why you

employ knowledgeableand skillfulemployees. Using this style is of mutual benefit it

allows them to become part of the team and allows you to make better decisions.

: Business Work Structure in the Current Scenario

    A Business Scenario describes:

a business process, application, or set of applications, that can be enabled by the

    architecture

    the business and technology environment

the people and computing components (called "actors") who execute the

    scenario

the desired outcome of proper execution

A good Business Scenario is representative of a significant business need or problem,

and enables vendors to understand the value to the customer organization of a

    developed solution.

A good Business Scenario is also "SMART":

Specific, by defining what needs to be done in the business

Measurable, through clear metrics for success

    Actionable, by

o clearly segmenting the problem, and

o providing the basis for determining elements and plans for the solution

Realistic, in that the problem can be solved within the bounds of physical reality,

    time and cost constraints

Time-bound, in that there is a clear statement of when the solution opportunity

    expires

The section below entitled Guidelines on Goals provides detailed examples on

objectives that could be considered. Whatever objectives you use the idea is to make

    those objectives SMART.

  • 7/31/2019 H.P.L. Final Document on Business Leader

    25/35

    Benefits of Business Scenarios

A business scenario is essentially a complete description of a business problem, both in

business and in architectural terms, which enables individual requirements to be viewed

in relation to one another in the context of the overall problem. Without such a complete

    description to serve as context:

There is a danger of the architecture being based on an incomplete set of

requirements that do not add up to a whole problem description, and that can

    therefore misguide architecture work.

The business value of solving the problem is unclear

The relevance of potential solutions is unclear

Also, because the technique requires the involvement of business line management and

other stakeholders at an early stage in the architecture project, it also plays an

important role in gaining the buy-in of these key personnel to the overall project and its

    end-product.

    Creating the Business Scenario

    The Overall Process

Creating a business scenario involves the following, as illustrated in Figure 1:

1 - Identifying, documenting and ranking the problem driving the scenario

2 - Identify the business and technical environment of the scenario and documenting it

    in scenario models

3 - Identifying and documenting desired objectives (the results of handling the problems

    successfully) - get "SMART"

4 - Identifying the human actors (participants) and their place in the business model

5 - Identifying computer actors (computing elements) and their place in the technology

    model

6 - Identifying and documenting roles, responsibilities and measures of success per

actor; documenting the required scripts per actor, and the results of handling the

    situation

7 - Checking for "fitness for purpose" and refining only if necessary.

The Business of Mr. Mehmood Alam Qureshi is expected to grow at a Average Rate of

8.7 per cent till FY13. The growth has driven due to the increase in demand for
