The b u i l d i n g at 4113 Guadalupe i s a small l - s t o r y commercial row building t h a t faces west onto Guadalupe Street. S t i l l used for commercial purposes, the buil d i n g retains much of i t s h i s t o r i c i n t e g r i t y .
The b u i l d i n g features a symmetrically arranged 3-bay facade capped by a stepped parapet. The parapet obscures a metal-clad gable roof v i s i b l e only from the a l l e y behind the buil d i n g . Unlike the recessed entry t y p i c a l of such commercial buildings, the entrance t o t h i s b u i l d i n g i s i n the same plane as the flanking display windows and features two French doors t h a t are probably not o r i g i n a l t o the building. The outer bays contain single-pane display windows and paneled bases. A segment of the transom above the entrance remains uncovered, although segments above the display windows are obscured by plywood panels. Although the building i s of frame construction, the primary (west) facade i s faced i n red brick l a i d i n running bond, although t h i s a l t e r a t i o n i s thought t o date to the 1930s. Stretcher courses cap the transom and the parapet.

On Hyde Park's primary commercial thoroughfare, the commercial building at 4113 Guadalupe i s the most i n t a c t example i n a cluster of storefronts along the s t r e e t . I n continuous use f o r commercial purposes since i t s construction i n 1920, the b u i l d i n g suggests Hyde Park's nature as a largely s e l f - s u f f i c i e n t suburban community. Local business establishments h i s t o r i c a l l y played an i n t e g r a l r o l e i n the community, and businesses such as shoe shops and beauty shops have provided services t o the neighborhood from t h i s s t o r e f r o n t . Erected at the beginning of Hyde Park's greatest b u i l d i n g boom, 4113 Guadalupe retains a high l e v e l of i t s h i s t o r i c i n t e g r i t y . I t i s therefore nominated f o r i t s l o c a l a r c h i t e c t u r a l significance under C r i t e r i o n C.
The property at 4113 Guadalupe was sold by the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Land Co. t o Mary Ot t i e Hartson on September 20, 1911 (DR 247:478). Hartson i n t u r n conveyed the land t o R.B. McMichael nine years l a t e r f o r $600 (DR 155:564), a price t h a t suggests the property had been modestly improved at best. On October 25, 1920, R.B. and Ella McMichael contracted with builder L. Shaffer t o "construct, erect, f i n i s h and deliv e r complete i n a tru e , perfect and workmanlike manner, a l - s t o r y box store b u i l d i n g i n accordance with the plans and specifications agreed upon. . ." f o r $1050. Documentary evidence suggests th a t Nalle & Co. was Shaffer's source of building materials f o r 4113 Guadalupe (DR 298: 381,382).
In 1921 the McMichaels sold t h e i r property t o B.N. Payton, who i n t u r n sold i t t o James McConnachie (DR 333:263; 440:171), who resided at 4411 Avenue B and owned numerous buildings i n Hyde Park including the post o f f i c e b u i l d i n g , Kelly Garage and Roy George F i l l i n g Station on West 43rd Street, and houses at 4207 and 4209 Guadalupe (Probate F i l e No. 19,425). McConnachie and his wife retained ownership of the building at 4113 Guadalupe u n t i l 1974, when the administrator of t h e i r estate conveyed the property t o Ludmilla A. Ermis, the current owner (DR 5054:753).
