of Unity

What is Unity?

a whole or totality as combining all its

parts into one.

An undivided totality or completeness

with nothing wanting.

Unity is being together, mutually

agreement, uniformity, absence of

diversity.

Unity means- Integrity, wholeness,

Unification, Coalition, Undividedness,

Collaboration, Co-operation...

What is Enemy?

Something destructive or injurious

in its effects.

Enemy is an individual or a group that

is seen as forcefully adverse or

threating for both the individual and

communities.

One who hates, opposes, or fosters

harmful designs against another;

hostile opponent.

1-Poor CommunicationStatement:

Poor communication is the inability to convey

your message to the other person or a group. In

an organization, poor communication leads to

de-motivation of employees.

The poor communication is what can't be

understandable by the listener or it can be

only partially understandable by the

listener.

1-Poor CommunicationFour Basic Style of Communication:

1. Passive Communication: It is a style whichindividuals have developed a pattern of avoidingexpressing their opinions or feelings, protectingtheir rights and identifying & meeting their needs.

2. Aggressive Communication: It is a style whichindividuals express their feelings and opinions &advocate for their needs in a way that violates therights of others.

1-Poor CommunicationFour Basic Style of Communication:

3. Passive-Aggressive Communication: It is a stylewhich individuals appear passive on the surfacebut are really acting out anger in a subtle, indirector behind-the-scenes way.

4. Assertive Communication: It is a style whichindividuals clearly state their opinions and feelingsand firmly advocate for their rights and needswithout violating the rights of others.

1-Poor CommunicationConsequences:

• You can't have unity without a common

goal, a common mission and a common

vision, all flowing from a common

dream.

• If the right hand doesn't know what

the left hand is doing, disunity, anger

and frustration will fill your company.

1-Poor Communication

Remedies:

• Have the regular daily, monthly, quarterly & annual meetings for everyone.

07 Poor Communication Skills to avoid:

1. Contacting others only when you need something.

2.Not following up or closing the loop.

3.Not returning telephone calls or email messages.

4.Foregoing basic courtesy.

5.Not listening.

6.Telling lies.

7.Speaking chronic negativity.

2-Lack of Shared PurposeStatement:

• Purpose deals with why the organisation

exists in the first place and what ultimately

matters in its work.

• Purpose is Good. Shared Purpose is Better

• Purpose is defined as what an organisation

wants to achieve and how that will happen.

• Organisational purpose ‘expresses the

company’s fundamental value.

2-Lack of Shared Purpose

• There is no unity where there isn't a

common goal/mission/vision flowing

from a common dream.

Consequences:

• If the team doesn't share the goals

of leadership as well as each other,

there isn't unity.

Remedies:

• The Vision, Mission & Core Values

must be shared by all passionately.

3-Gossip

involving details that are not confirmed as

being true.

3-GossipConsequences:

Gossip about the Company & Leadership is

a particularly evil form of disloyalty.

There is no possible way to have unity in

presence of gossiping.

Discussing problems downwards or

sideways is Gossip

Unity pulls people together, gossip

pushes them apart.

3-GossipRemedies:

Problems shared upwards is fine.

Positives can be shared to

downwards but the negatives can only

be shared to upwards.

No Gossip Policy to be maintained,

it is a fire-able offense.

4-Unresolved DisagreementsStatement:

The word unresolved may describe an

argument that has not been solved.

unresolved - (of a dispute;

disagreement, etc.) not having been dealt

with successfully; not having been settled;

not having reached an agreement.

a question that remains unanswered.

a decision that not been made — like the

title of "Checkers Champion" after a tie

game.

4-Unresolved DisagreementsConsequences:

Pending unresolved disagreements grow and

grow and can eventually kill unity which can

paralyze the team members.

4-Unresolved Disagreements

All disagreements must be resolved in

a free and frank manner.

Everyone must be encouraged to take

up any unresolved disagreement with his

leader to solve.

The HR dept must play an active role

in ensuring that there are no unresolved

disagreements.Every leader must ensure that there

are no unresolved disagreements in his

team.

Remedies:

5-Sanctioned Incompetence

• Sanction means to ‘approve, support or

reward an action or condition’.

• Combined ‘Sanctioned Incompetence’

is the act of rewarding (paying) a

person or organization for being

unproductive, lazy or producing

sloppy results. It may dishonest as

well.

• Incompetent means ‘not possessing the

ability, qualification or skill necessary to

carry out a task or responsibility’.

Statement:

5-Sanctioned Incompetence

Sanctioned incompetence demoralizes.

If you don’t act when someone can’t

or won’t do their job, it demotivates

everyone else.

When a team member is incompetent

and for whatever the leadership won’t

act, the team becomes demoralized.

“Why should I work hard if s/he

doesn’t have to?” becomes the prevailing

thought in the whole company.

Remedies:

Incompetent employees must be

identified with immediate effect and

take required steps to resolve the issue.
