Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities The Staff Assistant III may train and guide less experienced, hourly and/or student employees. Typical Functions 1. Performs office duties, including answering phones, directing calls to appropriate parties, data entry, filing, and other general duties as assigned. 2. Provides administrative support, including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings/conferences, and maintaining/ordering office supplies. 3. Serves as a liaison with other departments and constituencies in the resolution of matters concerning the activities and operations of the department. 4. Greets and directs visitors. 1

The Staff Assistant III can be distinguished from the Staff Assistant II in one of two ways: (1) performs more complex and technical tasks in support of a larger program or department which is core to the University’s mission, or (2) provides primary administrative support to a Department Head, Director, or Executive Director.

Typical Functions

1. Performs office duties, including answering phones, directing calls to appropriate parties, data entry, filing, and other general duties as assigned.

2. Provides administrative support, including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings/conferences, and maintaining/ordering office supplies.

3. Serves as a liaison with other departments and constituencies in the resolution of matters concerning the activities and operations of the department.

4. Greets and directs visitors.5. Sorts, screens, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.6. Composes and word-processes various standard documents, correspondence, and reports.7. May update website content.8. May provide non-business related support for departmental programs and projects.9. Conducts research, compiles data, and prepares papers for consideration and presentation by

executives, committees, and directors. 10. Assists students, staff, and superiors with highly varied, complex, and non-recurring questions

and/or problems.11. May work independently to provide high-level administrative support to a large or complex

program.12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience; or an associate degree/technical training plus two years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
