Incumbents evaluate the business and end user data requirements in the context of data science best practices, and develop analytical and reporting tools to address those needs. Incumbents also write code to extract data from multiple databases and create applications which integrate data from multiple sources to aid decision making. Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities The Business Intelligence Analyst reports to a Director, Manager, or Department Head. Typical Functions 1. Meets with end users to determine data needs. 2. Collects, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data in preparation for generation of statistical and analytical reports. 3. Collaborates with Database Administrator to maintain computerized collection and tracking of relevant data. 4. Maintains appropriate records of research methods and results. 5. Collaborates with Programmer/Analyst to design and develop specific reports for collection, tracking, and reporting of data, as appropriate. 6. May write code to create views and extract data from multiple databases. 7. Creates applications to integrate data from multiple sources. 1

Summary and Distinguishing Characteristics

Incumbents in the Business Intelligence Analyst series directly advance the data-informed mission of Utah State University through learning, discovery, and engagement. Incumbents evaluate the business and end user data requirements in the context of data science best practices, and develop analytical and reporting tools to address those needs. Incumbents also write code to extract data from multiple databases and create applications which integrate data from multiple sources to aid decision making.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

The Business Intelligence Analyst reports to a Director, Manager, or Department Head.

Typical Functions

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of experience required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
