November 2017 On Thursday, November 16th, we will begin a monthly series of scholarship chats, similar to career chats, during Flex in the cafeteria. Mrs. Carroll, who han-

dles our scholarship information and this newsletter, will speak with students about the general scholarship process and also take questions. Talks will be announced and there will be a sign-up sheet in the Counseling Center prior to each chat session. Maryland Higher Education Scholarships - amount varies Deadline: varies by scholarship Requirements: Both Educational Assistance (EA) Grants and Guaranteed Access (GA) Grants are available. Senior with financial need. Other requirements vary depending on the specific scholarship. See their website for details: www.mhec.state.md.us. FYI for anyone attending Carroll Community College in the fall of 2018: You should also apply for financial aid and scholarships. The scholarship application isn’t open yet, but the FAFSA is required - so go ahead and make sure your FAFSA information is taken care of now. New students must also complete the credit enrollment application to be considered for financial aid and scholarships. You can call the Financial Aid Office with questions at any time: 410-386-8437.

For students with demonstrated leadership abilities and community service. See Mrs. Carroll in the Counseling Center for an application Sun Trust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes - $500 Deadline: drawings every 2 weeks, October through May Requirements: Open to seniors and college undergrads. Drawing is random; no GPA or financial need require-ments; 2 winners selected every 2 weeks; Registration begins September 12, 2016. Freedom Scholarships require a well-rounded senior who has overcome adversity/hardship in their personal or family life. Planning to enter a STEM field in support of national defense. Merit Scholarships are looking for a well-rounded senior who plans to enter a STEM field in support of nation-al defense. Cumulative GPA of ate least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Must plan to pursue a career in the STEM field and attend an accredit-ed college/university in the US. Sons of the American Revolution - Eagle Scout Scholarship Deadline: December 31 Requirements: Must be an Eagle Scout currently registered with an active unit. May not turn 19 until 2018. GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program - $10,000 (renewable) Deadline: January 4, 2018 Requirements: At school, at the workplace, and in your community, demonstrate the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship. Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0. These students use the experiences of their youth to lead, serve and pursue a life of purpose and significance, both personally and within their communities. Maryland JCI Senate Scholarship - two awards of $500 Deadline: January 5, 2018 Requirements: Winners are chosen based on merit and need. Ron Brown Scholarship Program - $40,000 over 4 years Deadline: January 9 Requirements: This scholarship is for US Citizens who are Black or African American. Applicants are required to show financial need, academic achievement, leadership ability and participation in community service activities. Empire Beauty Schools - amounts vary Deadline: varies by scholarship Requirements: Seniors pursuing a career in cosmetology. See their website: www.empire.edu/financial-aid. Community Foundation of Carroll County Scholarships Deadline: Varies by scholarship Requirements: Vary from one scholarship to the next. Over 70 scholarships available for Carroll County students. Apartment List Scholarship - $500 Deadline: March 1, 2018 Requirements: Student must be accepted to college and show a commitment to community service. Carroll County Association for Family & Community Education (FCE) Scholarship - 2 awards, $750 each Deadline: April 15, 2018 Requirements: Demonstrated financial need to continue education in university/college/vocational school. Student must be in the top 25% of their class. Applications are available in the Counseling Center Alexandria Mary Kowalczyk Memorial Dance Scholarship Deadline: April 15, 2018 Requirements: Demonstrated interest in pursuing dance at the collegiate level, whether or not it is your major. Must be accepted at a college/university offering a degree program in dance or offering extra curricular opportunities in dance. Letter of recommendation from a teacher/coach, or group/church leader. Write an essay (up to 500 words) on how you will take this scholarship and give back to the community. Meghan Lynn Rippeon Memorial Scholarship Deadline: April 15, 2018 Requirements: Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better throughout high school and have “college worthy” SAT scores. Must be accepted at an accredited college/university and demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in early childhood education. Applications are available in the Counseling Center. Everybody’s Quilt Guild Textile Arts Scholarship Deadline: May 1, 2018 Requirements: Must be accepted at a college/university and have “college worthy” grades throughout high school as well as SAT scores. Interest in pursuing a career in Textile Arts. Submit an essay of at least 500 words explaining the importance and past history of you community service, educational goals and career plans. Gretchen Brandt Character Award - Only for athletes at Century High School Nomination Deadline: May 4, 2018 Requirements: For a college-bound athlete who played at least two team sports at Century, showed compassion and respect toward others, built a rapport with those they came in contact with, and exemplified school spirit and dedica-tion on and off the court of field. The student will be one who has demonstrated good character by “having good moral strength and integrity, and doing the right thing just because.” Applications are available in the Counseling Cen-ter.
