Dear Company Representative,

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar Chapter at the Georgia Institute of Technology

(HSF-GT) appreciates your interest in supporting our initiatives in the Hispanic community.

This Corporate Package summarizes our chapter’s programs and activities for the 2011-12

academic school year and explains how you can invest in our student organization.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is a national non-profit organization that focuses

on strengthening the U.S. by encouraging college education of Hispanic Americans through

community outreach and education, affordability via scholarships, college retention, and

career opportunities. HSF has the HSF Scholar Chapter Network, which exists to promote

academic success and student engagement among Latino college students, while

encouraging them to serve as role models and leaders in their communities.

Since the establishment of HSF-GT in 2006, the chapter has made a positive impact in

Georgia Tech and the Atlanta community. HSF-GT recognizes the issue of higher education in

the Hispanic community, especially in the state of Georgia, and knows the responsibility to

step up, take action, and make a difference.

In order for HSF-GT to continue making an impact, we realize the importance of

interacting with companies that also embrace diversity and leadership. As a corporate

sponsor, your company will have direct access to HSF-GT events, programs, and our

members, who are well-rounded top tier students at one of the leading engineering institutes

of the nation. We hope you can act with us in increasing the number of Hispanic students who

receive a higher education and become professionals.

Sincerely,

Alejandro Botero President

Katalina Keilhauer Internal Vice President

Diego Castañeda External Vice President

Membership Demographics

HSF-GT is composed of motivated students who want to make a difference in

the Hispanic community as well as enhance their academic and professional careers

through the events we hold.

HSF-GT is composed of over 100 active members and has access to over 800

Hispanic Georgia Tech Students via e-mail. These numbers are expected to increase

as our organization becomes more prominent in the Georgia Tech community. As a

corporate sponsor, you will have access to our members’ resumes and contact

information.

Our students major in a broad range of degrees, varying from all types of

engineering and sciences. The largest percentage of students in our organization is

Mechanical Engineering: Georgia Tech’s Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering

program is currently ranked number two in the nation. Our wide variety of majors

allows us to have a very dynamic organization. The major distribution of our active

members is shown below in Figure 1.

Figure 2: Class Distribution

HSF-GT class status distribution ranges from freshmen to seniors to graduate

students. The wide range of students will allow for the continuation of the organization

year after year. Additionally, our nearly equal balance of lower classmen (freshmen

and sophomores) and upper classmen (juniors, seniors, graduates) allows us to have

a mentor and mentee program which we coordinate. The class status distribution is

shown above in Figure 2.

Figure 3

The gender distribution is 40:60 Female to Male and is shown above in Figure 3.

HSF-GT Members

Our organization is comprised of various students of all backgrounds and

interests with one common goal, to advocate higher education in the Hispanic

Community. The diversity of our organization offers us to have a unique open view to

the world, and a willingness to improve it. All of the students in HSF-GT are Georgia

Tech students, meaning they are the best of the best academically.

The students in HSF-GT are also conscious of the community they live in and

feel a moral obligation to impact it in a positive way. It is these characteristics that

develop Georgia Tech students into exemplary leaders.

Corporate Investment and Opportunities for Sponsorship

HSF-GT has a lot of events planned for this academic year, we hope you join us!

Informational Sessions, Workshops, and General Meetings (Bi-weekly)

Our meetings throughout the year keep our members well informed about

academic, professional, and community outreach opportunities.

As a sponsor, we invite your company to give a presentation to our members

about your company and the opportunities you have available. This is an excellent

opportunity to directly meet our HSF-GT members. Your company name and website

will be sponsored in all e-mails and flyers pertaining to the meeting. You may also help

by providing food and refreshments for the meeting.

La Amistad Tutoring (Twice a week)

Twice every week during the entire academic year, HSF-GT members are

tutoring young Hispanic students, ranging from 1st to 8th grade. We help students with

their regular schoolwork. We are like older brothers and sisters to these young

students, mentoring and guiding them through their academic and personal struggles.

We also communicate with their parents and help them with translation.

A corporate sponsor can help us with this mission by making a monetary

donation to help us with transportation costs. Next to the website section where

students sign up for tutoring, we can place your company logo and a link to your

website.

HSF-GT Mentor and Mentee Program (Throughout the year)

The transition from high school to college can be very difficult and intimidating.

The first year of college will affect the beginning of your career as a student. The HSF-

GT Mentor and Mentee Program wants to make sure freshmen and sophomore

students have someone to advise them through the tough times. We try to pair

students of the same major upperclassmen can be mentors for lowerclassmen.

As a sponsor you can make a monetary donation so the students of this

program can meet on a monthly basis for a lunch social. You can also attend the

sponsored lunch to meet our members of this program.

HENAAC Conference (August 2011)

Great Minds in STEM hosts its annual conference for Hispanic students

majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in October. This year it will

taking place in Orlando, Florida. There are professional workshops and a career fair

for our members, where they can seek internships and full time jobs.

Companies can help sponsor our members’ “Early Bird” $100 registration fee,

so they can register three months in advance and secure the travel grant.

We would like 10 students to attend this conference each year. It is only $100

to sponsor each student.

Volunteering at Youth Leadership Conferences (Fall and Spring Semesters)

Throughout the year, HSF-GT members volunteer at the following youth

leadership conferences:

● Latin American Association Youth Leadership Conference

● CEISMC Pathways to STEM Latino Parent Day

● Hispanic Scholarship Fund Steps 4 Success

● H.O.P.E. Education Fair

● Great Minds in STEM Viva Technology Program

Our contribution at these events is to motivate the youth to attend college by

sharing our experiences about college, STEM, and talking with them one-on-one to

answer their questions. We also talk to their parents, who may be uninformed about

the educational opportunities for their children. Our goal is to make both students and

parents realize that attending college is much easier than they realize.

A company can help sponsor transportation costs and may also contribute

towards t-shirts which members we can wear when volunteering.

HSF-GT Shadow Day (Spring 2012)

In the spring semester HSF-GT will host local Hispanic high school students at

the Georgia Tech campus. We firmly believe it is important for the youth to be

exposed to a college setting, so they can become familiar with the atmosphere and

realize attending college is an attainable goal for anyone. We will have team building

activities, a tour of the campus, and most importantly, have a close interaction with

them, so they can be motivated to attend college.

A corporate sponsor can help by directing a workshop and by helping fund

materials, food and refreshments for the event. You can also sponsor scholarships for

the high school students. By assisting with this conference, your company will be

networking directly with our most active members, who will be volunteering and

hosting these students.

Somos el Futuro Parent and Student Conference @ GT (January 2012)

HSF-GT will be teaming up with the Goizueta Foundation @ GT to host a

parent and student conference on campus organized by HSF-GT. The conference will

be bilingual and both parents and students will be attending. The conference will

emphasize the importance of a college education as well as the steps students and

parents need be taking to attain a college education.

A corporate sponsor can help by directing a workshop, providing funding for

food and materials needed, sponsor scholarships for the high school students, etc.

TSA TEAMS (Spring 2012)

The TSA TEAMS program is an annual high school competition challenging

students to work collaboratively and apply their math and science knowledge in

practical, creative ways to solve real everyday engineering challenges. After

participating in TEAMS, students increase their knowledge of engineering, feel more

confident about participating in engineering activities and increase their ability to work

with others to solve complex problems.

The TEAMS Competition helps develop “STEM-capable” students in an

engaging way by showing them how math and science, are used to make tangible

differences in the world. In 2012, students will discover the engineering involved in

healthcare and medicine.

HSF-GT will be hosting TSA TEAMS this year, but we require sponsorship to

help cover transportation costs as we visit local high school. A sponsor can also help

provide for food and refreshments, materials for the team building exercises, and are

more than welcome to attend the event.

HSF-GT Leadership and Scholarship Award Ceremony (April 2012)

HSF-GT will be hosting a Leadership Award Ceremony to honor our

distinguished members. These students are exceptional leaders in the Hispanic

Community and will continue to be leaders after graduation.

A corporate sponsor can help by funding costs associated with the dinner, and

awards. As a corporate sponsor representatives from your company will be invited to

this ceremony. This will allow your company to network with the leaders in GT

community. The Leadership Awards and Scholarships can also be named after your

company

Ping Pong Tournament (Spring 2012)

A corporate sponsor can help by providing necessary materials to facilitate this

fundraising event, such as renting or purchasing equipment, food, event banners, and

prizes for winning teams. As a sponsor for this particular event, your company’s logo

will be promoted in all announcements as well as the banner during the event.

Sponsors will also be invited to participate in the event and will be provided a table for

promotional purposes.

As one of our main social events for the semester, the ping-pong tournament

will be advertised through e-mail announcements, our website, flyers posted around

campus, announcements at the Student Center TV screens, as well as any other

promotional opportunity we see available.

Company Sponsored Scholarships

HSF-GT members comprise of only Georgia Tech students. Our members are

not only academically skilled but also excel in leadership roles both on campus and in

the community. Many of our students struggle financially to continue their education

and could greatly benefit from a scholarship.

As corporate sponsor you can fund scholarships for our deserving members.

The amount and requirements of the scholarship will be up to your discrepancy. HSF-

GT will be in charge of promoting the scholarship and providing access to the

application on our main website and our meetings. This would also be an opportunity

for your company to mentor and develop a relationship with the recipient.
