created to provide us with an efficient

communication amongst one another.
The email account is available for all
members to use and will allow
everyone to send emails and updates
related to HSMAI. The use of a
members email account will allow us
to develop an organized database of
contacts with email address, and
phone numbers that will be easily
accessible and overtime lead to a large
networking pool of contacts. Also,
with time this email account will be
used to record or store previous
documents for future members to
use, whether it be “How to run a
fundraiser” or a “Thank You” letter
allowing members to view all previous
messages will save time and eliminate
confusion. May I add that If you wish
to personalize your message you can
still leave your name at the footer of
the email. Future plans for bettering
the email account would be to create
member profiles and post meetings/
event on gmail calender. Again, this
email account is for all to use and I
hope it will be a useful and continuos

COUGAR GROUNDS PROJECT
Objectives of project include
developing marketing strategies for Cougar
Grounds Coffee Shop that will stimulate
sales growth, revenue optimization, and
name recognition to obtain maximum
performance levels. Provide students with
an opportunity to employ professional
marketing concepts in business
atmosphere. Provide students with
leadership and management skills.
Currently: We are trying to create a
database of people interested in working
on the Cougar Grounds project. If you
could send me your hours of availability,
name, and phone number we can begin to
form groups with one another and start
collaborating ideas to move this project in
a progressive direction.
Meeting times as of now are 9 a.m.
Monday-Friday in Cougar Grounds or by
time requested. Morning meetings will be
beneficial towards us because it will allow
us to witness a steady inflow of consumers
and their behaviors. Based on your
enthusiasm please join others and myself as
many mornings as you would like. The
more time we spend consistently
progressing the better the outcome.
Recently, We had a conference call
with Qualtrics the online survey
software company. The call consisted of
them navigating us through the process
of designing a survey. Some advantages
of using Qualtrics software is that it
gives you the option as survey builder to
create a unique and interesting layout of
questions that will capture the attention
of survey takers and keep them
motivated to accurately answer
questions. It also provides organization,
and other easy to use tools. We can have
a brief overview of the system when
time permits us to.
The next step in the Cougar
Grounds project will be a Analyzing
Consumer Purchase History, Cost
Control Analysis, Obtaining Detailed
Record of Sales, Determine focus points
of survey, and Distributing Survey. I also
believe Professor Lattin’s Consulting
Class would like to correlate with us on
this project.

Leadership Experience A new Student Leadership Program will allow
students to work directly with the University Hilton’s
general manager in student management positions on a
number of hotel operational projects, including receiving
hands-on experience in the multi-dimensional aspects of
an actual hotel remodeling project.
When the renovation is complete and the Student
Leadership Program is implemented, our facilities and
programs will be like no other,” attests Bowen. “Without
a doubt, the stature of the Hilton College will be
significantly elevated within academic circles and
throughout the hospitality industry. This upgrade will
result in better-trained graduates for all sectors of the
hospitality business and keep with Conrad N. Hilton’s
wish to create American hotel managers and top
executives who can compete globally.”
Building a relationship with the Hilton Hotel will
afford hospitality students an enhanced experiential
learning environment designed to better prepare
graduates to succeed in our fast paced and dynamic
industry.”
HSMAI Involvement We learned that “market positioning refers to the
activities that a firm undertakes to place the brand in
customers’ minds so they understand what the brand is
and who its competitors are”. With the renovation of the
Hilton Hotel we are presented with the opportunity to
experience the procedures of repositioning a hotel. A
skill set usually obtained in the later years of a career, we
as student members of HSMAI can gain an edge on the
competition by using this opportunity to deepen are
marketing skills in areas such as Branding, Market
Positioning, Repositioning, and Public Relations.
We will support the Student Leadership Program
and build a relationship with all those who will share
with us knowledge and guidance towards our goals. The
goal of the project will be to develop and present a
analysis of the desired position market after renovation,
forming ways of promoting the newly renovated hotel,
along with working along side the Hilton Hotel
Marketing and Sales Staff to further develop knowledge
of the repositioning process.

FUNDRAISER GOALS !
1ST ANNUAL
CONRAD N. HILTON
4 ON 4
BASKETBALL
TOURNAMENT
The outlining purpose of establishing a
fundraiser is to raise money to provide
scholarship funds for all active members who
display enthusiastic interest in Hospitality Sales
and Marketing. Therefore, the money raised
from the fundraiser will be used as an incentive
for students to join HSMAI, because not only
will they be receiving the leading source for
sales and marketing information, knowledge,
business development, and networking by
joining but also funding that will cover their
HSMAI initiation fee.
No matter which fundraiser we choose to
pursue, the goals of each are very similar.
Besides raising money we want to build
relationships. We want to build connections
and bring together the people of Conrad N
Hilton College, University of Houston,
Houston Area Professionals, HSMAI Houston
Chapter Members, and local communities.
We are in the business of hospitality, the
business of bringing people together for the
common purpose of celebrating life.
We are a student organization of very
ambitious and innovative students who
together can reach any goal set before us.
Planning a fundraiser of this magnitude will
be challenging. However, if we set forth
attainable goals and work in a progressive
movement and start now we can accomplish a
successful fundraiser event.
In the end, the fundraiser event will give
us a pool of connections and networking
opportunities by having built key
relationships. The fundraiser will teach us
skills in Event Planning, Event Marketing,
Public Relations, Team Management, and
hours of experience.
