HSUPA Evolution Roadmap

This feature is the enhancement of the

HSUPA Phase 1. The main

enhancement includes:

1- Peak rate: 5.76 Mbit/s per user (5.74

Mbit/s (MAC) per user)

2- 2 ms / 10 ms TTI

HSUPA Theoretical Background

• HSUPA TTI definition

The TTI for a service over HSUPA can be 2 ms or 10 ms. When the TTI is 2 ms, higher

throughput can be achieved. When the TTI is 10 ms, wider coverage can be achieved. The

HSUPA TTI selection feature can dynamically change the TTI from 2 ms to 10 ms on the edge for

wider coverage or from 10 ms to 2 ms for higher throughput. In this way, call drops are reduced

and the quality of service (QoS) is ensured.

HSUPA Initial BitRate & Rate Adjustment (DCCC)

• When setting up a HSUPA RAB, a certain initial bitrate is directly assigned to the user

• Based on the requested throughput, RNC will either increase or decrease the assigned

throughput according to a set of adjustment rates (steps)

• During tests different initial bitrates/adjustment rates were put to test:
