25 Hours a Day, 8 Days a Week.Meet the Cusack’s: Jeff, Missy & Colby
ummer is here, and July 4th is only a few days away. It’s not only the 233rd celebration of our Independence Day, but it marks two very special anniversaries for our cute cover family – Missy, Jeff and Colby
Cusack. It was on July 4th that Jeff and Missy met at a concert and fire-works show in Atlanta 10 years ago, and later in 2002, it’s the day they got engaged.
Jeff is a Georgia boy, and was born and raised in Cobb County. He enjoys baseball, racing and is a big Tony Stewart fan. The June before they met, Missy moved to Atlanta from Spartanburg, South Carolina. She had just finished her Master’s Degree at Clemson University, and had taken a job at one of the universities in Atlanta.
Missy and Jeff were married in April of 2003, and since then they have made Dallas their home. On April 1, 2007, they welcomed their precious boy, Colby, to the family. Together they enjoy playing outside and watching the Braves. Colby has been doing to Tomahawk Chop since he was only one year old. Colby really enjoys baseball and is already practicing like the big boys with his very own batting machine – complete with sound.
Jeff works as the Parts Manager at Walker Cadillac GMC in Carrollton. Missy has recently been named the Director of Admissions for the newly merged Appalachian, North Metro and Chattahoochee Technical Colleges. Beginning July 1, the three colleges will begin operating as the state’s larg-est technical college. Before taking this new position, Missy served as the Director of Admissions for North Metro Technical College since 2002. Prior to that she worked at Chattahoochee Technical College as an Admissions and Academic Advisor. The newly merged CTC will have 7 locations cover-ing six counties, including the Paulding Campus located in Dallas. This is an exciting time for Missy and she is looking forward to this challenge.
We are so proud to have met Missy, Jeff and Colby. They invited us into their home and even offered us refreshments on an extremely hot day. But, we think you will agree that even with the extreme heat, we were able to capture one of the cutest covers in Our Town history!
Thank you Missy, Jeff and Colby!

atience is a virtue. We’ve all heard and mostlikely agree with this long honored concept. However, the value and impact of maintaining
a life livedwithpatience isnotonly virtuous– it istremendously beneficial to contentment and gen-erallifesatisfaction.Theattributeofpatiencegoesalongwaytowardsagoalofcreatingamorepeacefulself.Withoutpatience,lifeisextremelyfrustrating.Apersistentlyimpatientpersoniseasilyannoyed,both-eredandirritatedwhichcontributestounhappiness.Patienceaddsadimensionofeaseandacceptancetolifeandisessential for innerserenity.Togetherwithperseverance,patiencecontributestosuccess.
It is common to overestimate what can be accom-plished in the hours of a day and to underestimatethe hassles that will accompany tasks. We live in aspeeded up world where everything has becomeinstant. Instant messaging, email, text, cell phonesencourageanattitudeandbeliefthatweshouldneverhave towait.Giventhese issues, it iseasy tounder-standhowasaculturewehavebecomelesspatient.
Impatience can be bad for your physical health.Impatience causes stress, weakens the immune sys-tem and forces the heart to beat faster and harder. It has long been known that people with impatient“Type A” personalities have a much higher risk ofhypertension and heart disease. Impatient, agitatedpeopleforgethowtorelax.Intenseemotionalstresscan result in intestinal disturbances, stiff necks and
P backs,andheadaches.Impatiencealsocanimpairtheabilitytothinkclearlyandmakegooddecisions.
Additionally, chronic and extreme impatience candevelopintoadeeplyingrainedsenseofresentment, and anger. This is createdoutof thebelief that theworld is unfair with a desire to sabotage and causeharm.Theseoutragedpeopleseethemselvesasunfor-tunatevictimsofnegativeforcesandhavefeelingsofpowerlessness.Wheneverweholdontoresentment,weturn“smallstuff ”intoreally“bigstuff ”.Westarttobelievethatouropinionsandbeliefsaremoreimpor-tant than our happiness. They are not. If you wanttobeamorepeacefulpersonyoumustunderstandthatbeingrightisalmostnevermoreimportantthatallowingyourselftobehappy.
Thegoodnewsis…patiencecanbelearned.Thebadnewsis…patienceisonlylearnedthroughopportuni-tiestopracticeit!
Iwanttoofferafewguidelinestoimproveasenseofcalmandpatience.
• Treat others the way you want to be treated.Toleranceisessential.
• Remember not everyone operates at the samespeed. Slowing down to a slower pace may behelpfultoyou.Whyareyouinsuchahurry?
• Remindyourself that theworld isnotall aboutyou.
• Most impatience is dueto perception and expec-tation. “Stuff happens” and unrealistic expecta-tions about uninterrupted smooth sailing willcreatedisappointmentandresentment.
• Setbacks are temporary. Remember, “This, too, shallpass.”
• Tryingtodotoomuchsetsyouupforimpatience– avoid overwhelming yourself! While oftentimesuseful,multi-taskingcanbeacurse!

utrition plays a major role inachieving both weight and fitnessgoals. Unfortunately in the past
we found that a number of our clientsfailedtoadjusttheiralcoholconsumption.Alcohol has dramatic negative impact ontheweightloss, asitnotonlyreducesthe number of fat calories you burn, but also increases your appetite andcan reduce your testosterone levelsforup to24hoursafteryou finishedyourlastdrink.
The impactofalcoholon thehumanbody is very different than from anyother food group. When you have anormalmealyourbodygetsitsenergyfrom the calories from the carbohy-drates, proteins and fat, which areslowlydigestedwithinyourstomach. However, when you drink alcohol itdoesnotgetdigestedbutinstead,dif-fusethroughthestomachveryquickly,reaching the liver and brain withinminutes.
Thiseffectivelymeansthatratherthanprocessingcaloriesfromnormalfood,
your body gets its energy from alcoholcalories,whichofferabsolutelynonutri-tionalvaluetoyourbody.Consequently,since your body gets powered by alco-hol calories, nutritional calories such
as carbohydrates and dietary fatsdo not get burned and yourbody does not get all the ben-efitsoutofthem,insteadtheygetstoredaspermanentfatdeposits.Moreover, alcohol actually stimu-lates your appetite, since alcoholcalories do not fill you up asmuch as same amount of calo-
riesderivedfromfood;youarelikely to consume more calo-ries if you are drinking. Ontopofthat, researchshowsthat
if you drink before or during ameal, both your inhibitions andwillpower are reduced and inthis state, you are more likelyto overeat, especially greasy orfried foods—which can add toyour waistline. In order to avoidthis, waittoorderthatdrinkuntilyou’redonewithyourmeal.
Alcohol also tends act as a diuretic, which meansthat itcauseswater loss, whichinturncanleadtodehydration. Along with this water loss you loseimportantminerals, suchasmagnesium, potassium, calcium and zinc. These minerals are vital to themaintenance of fluid balance, chemical reactions, andmusclecontractionandrelaxation
Whenitcomestoalcoholtherearemanycommonmisconceptions, butthemajoroneisthebeliefthatthe alcoholic drinks that do not contain carbohy-dratesaremoredietfriendly.Mostbeersandwinesdo contain more carbohydrates than liquor, but itismore important toactuallychecktheamountofcalories that you are drinking. Sweeter drinks anddrinksmixedwithsoftdrinksorjuicetendtocon-tainmore calories thandrywinesor spiritsmixedwithsoda.

hat can you do to help secure your financial future? Pay yourself first by regularly investing some of
your income. Big Companies always pay themselves first. However, most Americans end up paying them-selves last. Usually that means Americans end up not paying them-selves anything as they have no money left when they go to pay themselves last!
Dollar Cost Averaging is the smart way to pay yourself first
Dollar Cost Averaging is the strategy of investing a fixed amount of money in an investment at regular intervals. For instance, you could invest $100 each month. If you’re using dollar-cost averaging--investing a specific amount regularly regardless of fluctuating price levels--you may be getting a bargain by continuing to buy when prices are down. However, you’ll also need to consider your financial and psychological ability to continue purchases through periods of low price levels or economic distress; dollar-cost averaging loses much of its benefit if you stop just when prices are reduced. And it can’t guarantee a profit or protect against a loss.
Even if the value of your holdings fluctuates, regularly add-ing to an account that’s designed for a long-term goal may cushion the emotional impact of market swings. If losses are offset even in part by new savings, the bottom-line number on your statement might not be quite so discouraging.
W Dollar-cost averaging offers these key advantages to inves-tors:
1. It’s Smart. You automatically buy more shares when prices are low and fewer
when prices are high. Your aver-age cost per share is less than
your average price per share. The only time this
would not occur is if the share price remained constant.
This technique forces you to buy MORE when the price is LOW (buy
low) and buy LESS when the price is HIGH!
2. It’s Painless. When you pay yourself first every month before you pay the bills, you’ve wisely placed your money in an investment before you realize it was ever there to spend.
3. It’s Disciplined. Dollar-cost averaging takes the emotion out of investing and offers you the opportunity to take advantage of market lows.

ummer is in full swing and the Fourth of July is just a few days away. During this 233rd celebration of our Independence Day, let’s take the time to reflect on all the freedoms and liberties we have enjoyed in
this great country.
Though our history changes with each passing day, we pray that none of these liberties are stripped from us. We must continue to pray for our lead-ers and they will put God first and seek His guidance in their decisions.
We are grateful to our Heavenly Father that He has given us TRUE freedom though his son Jesus Christ. Through Him, this freedom can never be taken away.
Galatians 5:1 (King James Version) 1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
At Our Town, we give thanks to all the men and women who have served our great country and fought to protect our rights and freedoms. We wish a very Happy Fourth of July to YOU - all the wonderful residents of Paulding! Thank you for your support and…
GOD BLESS AMERICA

SLETTER FROM THE EDITORS
ome time has past since we last told you about some of ‘Our Favorite Things.’ We have discovered some wonderful new treats that we in-stantly fell in love with and wanted to share with you.
One of this month’s favorites was introduced to us by our cover family. We are hooked on “Simply Lemonade.” Our families are loving it and we know yours will, too. It is a wonderful, refreshing summer drink!

We love Honey Sticks! These honey-filled straws are produced by Home Town Honey and come in many flavors - clover, lemon, lime, sour cherry, rootbeer, amaretto, just to name a few, and our personal favorites, blackberry and cin-namon. They are delicious, portable snacks. At 25 cents a piece, it is economical to try them all. We stumbled upon these healthy treats while shopping at the Ace Hardware in New Hope. You can bet we’ll be stocking up on them on July 21st, from 6pm-8pm when Ace has their special Ladies Night. We hope to see you there!

n the fall we will send our oldest son off to college. This stage of his life has come way too fast for us. It seems like yesterday that we were
planning his first day of preschool. I am filled with a mixture of emotions but these feelings are now familiar. As I recall each major step along the path to his schooling, there was a certain amount of anxiety, stress and excitement. Like all parents, I want his experiences to be wonderful. I wish for him to make good friends, stay safe, do well academically and
have the time of his life. Of course, I know that I can’t be there to ensure that he always makes the best choic-es. Therefore, it seems like a good time to review the things every student should know.
The following advice is what I tell my chil-dren and my
patients as they prepare to enter middle school, high school and college. Hopefully, these thoughts will be useful to parents as they help their own children cope with these important educational milestones.
•Friends are essential. They will be an important support system with whom you will share good and bad times. However, make certain that you choose good people to be your friends. They will have a tremendous influence upon you. If your friends skip class, use drugs or make other poor choices, you will, too. Anyone who tries to convince you to do bad things is not a true friend. Surround yourself with positive people who are headed for success and they will carry you far.
•Take advantage of extracurricular activities. It is important to balance your classroom work with music, sports and community service. Get involved. This is a great way to make friends and lower stress. Make time for fun. It is good for you.
•Don’t forget why you are there. Your education is a privilege that should not be taken for granted. Many children in the world will never get this opportunity. Do your best in everything you do. Learn as much as you can and take pride in your work. It is good preparation for the “real world.” Remember that life is not always
fair and sometimes things will not go your way. However, you can learn as much from your fail-ures as your successes (maybe more).
•Take care of yourself. Eat right, exercise and get enough rest. Allowing your body to get run down will only hamper your ability to perform. Keep your head on your shoulders and don’t do things that impair your judgment. When you feel ready to make grown up choices, be responsible. A careless decision can alter your life. When you need advice, talk to an adult. You will be surrounded by teachers, counselors and mentors who are happy to help you.
•Talk to your family. They want to know if you are struggling or unhappy. They want to know who your friends are. But mostly, they want you to know that they will love you no matter what. Whether you need comfort or celebration, it is important to share your life with the people who care about you.
Each new step in the educational process is an opportunity to make a fresh start. These milestones should be very special. If your child is excessively worried about starting a new school or transitioning to the next step in life, see a doctor. Don’t let anxi-ety and fear spoil these moments. Counseling may be needed to improve coping skills and deal with extreme emotions.

hen looking for the perfect way to organize your extra indoor and outdoor things into one space, you should consider an out-
door storage shed. A shed will give you extra space for lawn equipment, box storage, or can even act as a parking space for your motorcycle, bicycle, or even your car if space allows. When most people think of out-door storage sheds, they think of those outdated metal kits that don’t fit into the landscape and often rust within a few years. Today, sheds have evolved from those metal kits to include stylish and more durable sheds built from plans or new updated kits. Sheds built from wood, vinyl, or brick that often look like min-iature versions of a home are popular. These sheds are per-fect for storing lawn equipment, holiday decorations, out of sea-son clothing, and much more. When choosing a stor-age shed, keep the following tips in mind so your shed suits your desire and storage needs.
Style - Look at your landscape and backyard and visu-alize the style and size of shed you prefer. Popular choices for outdoor storage shed styles include
country cottages and farm barns. Also consider add on accessories to enhance the look of your shed, including double doors, lofts, windows, shelves, flow-er boxes, shutters, and more. Function - Make a list of each way you plan to use your outdoor storage shed to help determine its main purpose. By consider-
ing the main function of a shed, you can eliminate certain styles and shapes that will not fit your needs.
For example, if you want to store your riding mower in your out-door storage shed, you should consider sheds with double doors and an entry ramp instead of a step or stairs for ease of stor-age. You may also want a venti-lated shed if you will be storing gasoline for your riding mower. Building Materials - After you
have decided on the style and main function of your shed, determine the building materials you want. There are many different choices when it comes
to building materials. Your budget and desire for achieving a certain “look” will determine the type of building materials you use. Common siding materi-als include wood, vinyl, and rock. Cedar is a popular wood for outdoor storage shed because it is pretty, durable, and weather, insect, and rot resistant. Vinyl is the most economical choice. It lasts a long time, is rust and rot resistant and does not require painting, but it is usually considered a less stylish choice than rock or wood. Rock siding, which includes stone, concrete block, and bricks, makes for a sturdy and long lasting shed, but it requires more labor to install. Your Abilities - Consider your abilities when decid-ing between a storage shed kit and building from scratch using storage shed plans. If you aren’t an experienced builder, it may be best to go with a storage shed kit that includes pre-cut pieces that you simply put together. A shed built from plans may last longer, but if you don’t have the skills to build it right, it is not the most economical choice.
By keeping these tips in mind when choosing an outdoor storage shed, you should find a shed with the look you love that meets all of your storage needs.

months,whenmostpeopleenjoyhittingthecourts,I’malwaysaskedaboutcommontennis-relatedinju-riesandwhatcanbedonetotreatthem.Mosttennisplayerswillexperiencediscomfortat somepoint intheircareers,whetherthey’reaweekendplayeroratournamentprofessional.
Theshoulderisacommonplaceforinjuryintennis,andmanyoftheseinjuriescanbeattributedtorota-torcufftendonitisorbursitis.Rotatorcufftendonitisandbursitiswillusuallycausepainwhileservingorhittingoverheads. Painmay alsobe felt aftermatchplay is completed. One can develop inflammationeither within the muscles (tendonitis) or above themuscles (bursitis). The best way to treat inflamma-tion is usually with rest, anti-inflammatory medica-
tions,physicaltherapy,andoccasionally,withacortisone injection. If inflammation
persists for a long time orbecomessevere, avisit
withanortho-paedic
T surgeonmaybeinorder.
By far the most common tennis injury Iseeislateralepicondylitis, alsoknownastenniselbow.Tenniselbowisaconditioninvolvingpainand inflammationover theoutside bump of the elbow and is mostsevere while playing or at nighttime. Thisproblem is a result of inflammation at theattachment of the muscles at the elbow. Overtime, the tendons attaching the muscles to bonemay develop tiny tears and begin to weaken. Thisprocess causes continuing pain and debilitation.Treatmentof tenniselbowcan involvemedications, physical therapy, stretching, or simply a change inracquet or strings. Cortisone injections or surgerymaybenecessaryinsomecases.
Knee pain is another common complaint duringtennisseason.Thiscanbearesultofpatellofemoralpain (kneecap inflammation), tendonitis, injury tocartilage or ligament strain or tear. Tendonitis andkneecap inflammation can usually be treated withmedications, therapy, andrest. However, cartilageorligament tearsrequireevaluationbyanorthopaedicsurgeonandpossiblesurgicalintervention.
Finally, foot and ankle pain can be a
sourceofdebilitationin the tennis playeraswell. Painarisingin the arch or heelof the foot may bedue to plantar fasci-
tis, a common inflam-matorycondition.This
can usually be treatedwith new shoes or shoe
inserts, stretching exercisesand therapy. When those solutions
don’twork,medicationandinjectionorsurgerymayberequired.
Soasyouenjoyplayingtennisthissummer, havefunbutbeawareoftheconditionsyoushouldwatchoutfor. And remember, if pain persists beyond a fewweeksanddoesn’t resolve itselfwith rest andover-the-countermedications,avisitwithyourorthopae-distmaybeasmartmove!Nowgohitthecourts!
