Huito comes from the Amazon, the biologically diverse, tropical region of Peru. Huito (Genipa Americana L.) comes from a species of very tall trees native to Central and South American forests, and along the Amazon River basin. Incans referred to the plant as “wituq” or “hawa”. It has a history of cultural uses including food and beverages, as body and face paint, and medicinal applications.
