NEWSLETTER24 November 2011
HUKANUI VALUES: Respect, Excellence, Co-operation,
Integrity, Individuality.
Dear Parents/CaregiversNga mihi kia koutou katoa.ATHLETICS SPORTSBoth the Year 3 and 4 and the Year 5 and 6 teams managed to get fine days in which to enjoy their Athletics Sports. Congratula-tions to all participants and and best wishes to those children who will represent Hu-kanui at the Interschool Sports. One thing that impressed me was the good sportsman-ship and the way competitors encouraged each other to perform to their best. An im-pressive technological innovation this year was Mr Fitness using the video time capture facility on a school iPad so each child’s in-dividual time and position in the sprint final championship could be captured accurately. High tech photo finishing to hundredths of a second!
SCHOOL UNIFORM NEWSA reminder that the school uniform is now retailed by NZ Uniforms from their shop on the corner of Tristram and Rostrevor Street. In our school uniform shop we have limited stock at run-out prices of Girls Cullottes at only $35 and Girls Bootleg Pants at $25. Be in quick to bag a bar-gain! Open usual hours.Secondhand uniforms will no longer be accepted for sale through the Uniform Shop. We will continue to sell any secondhand stock that we currently have until Wednesday 7 December and then any unsold items will be returned to their owners. In future to assist parents with selling secondhand uniforms privately we will be setting up a Hukanui Uniform Community Noticeboard next week. ‘For Sale’ and ‘Wanted’ forms can be filled in at the office and placed on the

window outside the office for everyone to see.
SCHOOL PROPERTY NEWSStaff Carpark: Finally all the Council’s boxes have been ticked and the engineer’s report completed. The exciting news is that the tender will be let for this project before the end of this school year. Senior Playground: Thanks to the school community support of the gala the PTA were able, at their last meeting, to commit $50,000 to make this project a reality for the beginning of next year. The rope mast design came originally from the senior children who wanted a challenging climb-ing design that could accommodate a number of children at a time. This is some-thing missing in our current equipment.
YEAR 6 LEAVING CEREMONYThis will be held at the Gateway Chris-tian Centre, 950 Victoria Street on Mon-day 12 December at 7 p.m.The evening involves all of our Year 5 and 6 students. Tickets are on sale at the school office now. Prices are: Seats $3, Hukanui students Free. We hope you can all come along and join us on this special evening to farewell our Year 6 students.

The Living Room was built because of the environment. The students wanted to be creative with eve-rything to help the environment. By Ethan Hill-Haumaha Room 5The Living Room was built because the students wanted a class that couldn't possibly harm the envi-ronment. They also thought it would be a great meeting place. By Samuel Rountree Room 1The Living Room is made of eco-friendly materials and more importantly, it was planned, designed and built by Hukanui students after a lot of studying, research and hard work. The students in 2005 made a wish list and passed it on to the different generations of senior students. Slowly the wishes are getting ticked off. By Alice Cao Room 3When clearing our garden area, I like how we work as a team, being co-operative and finding new things every time. I like it because we can play with the new things we find in the garden. At the end, I feel satisfied that we have made a dent in pulling out the ivy weed. By Leith Dale Room 1In this elective, I didn't think I would plant things and do a garden. I just thought that we would just write about the environment and write about trees. This is one of the best electives ever. By Xaviera Kapua-Barton Room 2In this elective, I didn't think that we would get that far doing the secret garden and the lizard friendly garden. It's just amazing! We have done all that hard work in only eleven days. That's a lot of work. Phew! By Hannah Cowley Room 13
