PRINCIPAL MATTERS
Today we are recognising the extraordinary effort of our teachers. The world of teaching is continuing to
become a more complex and demanding career. The only way that we are going to attract and keep high
quality educators in our public education system is show them that they are truly valued. We are blessed to
have a team of teachers at Hastings who are relentless in their pursuit to deliver the finest learning
experiences for students. Over the next week, I encourage parents, carers and students to share a message
of thanks or appreciation with teachers. We are working very hard to promote the wellbeing of our whole
school community and gratefulness is a very healthy practice. It benefits the giver and the receiver
enormously. To all of our teachers, I am so grateful for your daily work, the care you show and the learning
you nurture!
A very big thank you to Julia Shearsby (mum of Patience, Asher & Lucas Mansfield) and Katie Wilson (mum
of Marli & Eli Bennett) for the endless hours they have put in to the planning and organisation for this year’s
Hullabaloo. Many thanks also to the parents, grandparents, our Year 5 & Year 6 students and students
from Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus for volunteering their time on stalls and activities.
We hope all families will join us tomorrow and enjoy our Hullabaloo.
Thank you to everyone who has paid their resources levies this year. These fees pay for the resources all
students use throughout the year including their exercise books, access to online maths, art & craft supplies,
maths and science equipment and first aid supplies. Unpaid fees leaves the accounts to be finalised by
school funds which then takes money away from other
school projects including the purchase and upgrade of
technology equipment. Reminder invoices for unpaid
accounts will again be sent home. I hope all accounts will
be finalised before the end of November.

BUSHFIRE EMERGENCY EVACUATION DRILL
Notes went home, and emailed, on Wednesday regarding the compulsory Bushfire Emergency Evacuation
drills. Unfortunately, a typing error was not picked up prior to printing and the date should read November
not October. In a real life situation, permission is not required to evacuate school grounds in an emergency.
In a practice situation, permission is required. Permission notes must be returned by Wednesday, 30th
October.
TERM 4 SPORT CHOICES
A reminder to students in Stage 2 and Stage 3, your sports choices for Term 4 start next Wednesday (Year
3 & Year 4) and Friday (Year 5 & Year 6). If you’re surfing – don’t forget your swimmers & a towel and Yoga
participants require a towel or yoga mat.
RELAY FOR LIFE FUNDRAISING
To raise money for their Relay for Life fundraising, School Parliamentarians are
selling glow sticks and glow wands at school on Thursday, 31st October. Glow Sticks
are 2 for $1.00 and Wands $2.00 each. Students will not be able to use these items
at school but they will make a great accessory for any family night time activity.
