What is HGH

• Human Growth Hormone (HGH) or somatotropin is a hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland; stimulates growth.

• Synthetic HGH was created in 1985 and was approved by the FDA for treatment of certain growth problems.

HGH in sports

• Athletes have used HGH to gain mass, peak their performance and prevent injuries.

• Many Athletic Trainers and PT’s of professional sport teams have used HGH in order to regain full use of muscles and in a timely matter.

Should HGH be Legalized for Athletes?

• MLB is the only professional American sport team that tests for HGH and therefore has openly banned it.• Are athletes are getting bigger, faster and stronger?• legalizing HGH, players would be less compelled to

use other, more dangerous drugs• HGH is not a steroid, anabolic steroids are synthetic

versions of testosterone.

Sooner or later…

• In my honest opinion within the next 10 years HGH will be legalized in the use of treating major injuries of professional athletes.

• As stated MLB is the only one who tests for it and they have only done this for the past two years

• Even after most positive testing's the professional athletes are simply reprimanded, fined, or suspended.

• Not much is standing in the way of it being legalized.

• It could lead to use of stronger substances such as steroids.

• Athletes would need a competitive edge.• Negative impact on youth• Wouldn’t be able to monitor

who actually needs HGH.

If it were up to me?

• If I was a AT or PT or in charge of making the rules I would say that HGH should be legalized for the use of treatment of major injuries. After a doctor decides the injured body part has reached full recovery the athlete will no longer be given HGH and all athletes will be required to test annually or more for HGH and if not being treated severely fined, suspended, etc.

• By no means am I saying athletes should all juice up…
