Want to learn a broad range of dance styles & performance skills, boost your confidence and make new friends? Come along to GET ACTIVE DANCE classes for children, teens and adults.

Our Classes are based on a non-competitive approach, which enables all to participate at an equal level. Classes are led by fully qualified staff and conducted in a fun and welcoming atmosphere for all.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS Public Holidays that fall within our terms: Classes will still be conducted on these days.

HIP HOP/JAZZ Classes are based on learning different styles of dance to the latest music releases. Working on technique and movement that enhances skills.

CONTEMPORARY/BALLET

Ballet is taught to those who would like to learn classical techniques and want to perform to slower and contemporary styles of music.

TAP DANCING Tap Dancing is a style of its own. Not only do you learn to tap dance, but learn rhythm and beat which enhances your coordination.

HIP HOP/BREAK DANCE Breaking is an extremely fun yet difficult form of art combinin the main foundational moves such as top rock, drops and go-downs, to the more complex down rock steps, making it a lot of fun, visually creative and a useful tool for your own self-expression.

HIP HOP/TOE TAP/BALLET FOR ALL (Flashdancers)A fun class that includes stretching, cardio, Jazz techniques, Hip Hop, Tap Dance & Ballet routines led by an instructor familiar with people with special needs. This class is ideal for people with a disability who want to meet others who also love dancing, having fun and learning Tap Dance and Ballet techniques.

ACROBATIC DANCEOur Acrobatics classes are taught using Artistic Gymnastic tumbling techniques and also include elements of partner balancing, trampet work and contortion. Acrobatic classes help dancers build upper body strength, agility and flexibility which can be beneficial in other dance genres. Our Acrobatics classes are di ided on skill base rather than age to allow for students to work to their fullest potential.

HUMES SINGSTARS A fun and exciting new program that teaches dance moves & singing all in the one class. Our Glee Club will make you feel good enrich lives and it’s fun, what more can you ask for.

BOLLYWOODA great mixture of numerous styles. These styles include belly-dancing, kathak, Indian folk, Western popular, and "modern", jazz, and even a little hip hop dancing.

SCHOOL LEVEL CLASS RECOMMENDATIONS Unless otherwise stated, all classes are open to boys and girls of all levels of experience.

Our teachers are guided to pitch their classes to the highest skill level in the class however will structure lessons and choreography to cater to all levels of experience from the newest of dancers to the seasoned pros! This way we are able to bring out the best in all of our dancers and encourage them to strive to improve and extend their skill base.

■ Fees include, 2 costumes per class, all classes during the year, photo day and full dress rehearsals.

* You may be asked to purchase minimal acessories if required for costuming.

■ All fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances. Applicationsfor refunds must be made in writing to the Leisure Programs Coordinator forconsideration. An administration fee of $20.00 is incurred on all refunds.

ENROLMENTS

It is essential that students arrive five minutes before the class, as teachers need to start classes on time. Students arriving late may miss out on a very important warm up, which is essential for all students to participate in.

Classes are held weekly during the school term. Attendance each week is essential for a high quality of achievement both on a personal and professional level.

Any child that may have hurt him/herself before class must consult the class teacher.

A disciplinary system will be implemented if any child is found to be disruptive in class. Refer to code of conduct.

All Classes require a minimum number of 10 ENROLMENTS per class. Classes with less than 10 enrolled will be amalgamated with other classes or will result in the class being cancelled.

Information collected on the enrolment form is used for administration purposes only and to contact parents in the event of an emergency. It will not be disclosed to any other party, except as required by law.

Should personal details change during 2018, please ensure updated information is provided and recorded on the enrolment form.

The completion of an enrolment form and payment of fees must be made one week prior to each term commencing at the nearest Hume City Council Leisure Centre to where your child will be participating in a dance classes.

Each year we hold an annual end-of-year performance and a half year basket supper for children to showcase what they have learnt during the year. These two events are compulsory to attend.

All children are requested to attend the rehearsals for the annual end of year performance and half year basket supper.

A DVD is taken of each performance and made available for you to purchase.

Group and individual photos are taken professionally at the end of the year. These can be purchased at our Christmas party. All children are required to attend the free photo session. Dates will be publicized later in the year.

Each child per class will receive a participation trophy at the end of the year.

Students are to wear our compulsory GET ACTIVE DANCE apparel, which is on sale at your first dance class :

Singlets and T’Shirts $25.00 and Jackets/Hoodies $40.00.

Junior / Contemporary classes are to wear a black leotard and black ballet skirt which can be purchased at Kmart or Target.

Black Dance Pants or black Leggings are also required but can be purchased from any department store.

Clothing such as jeans, baggy tops, school uniforms or skirts are NOT acceptable attire to wear to class. Any special attire requirements will be considered.

Get Active Dance requires students to wear Jazz shoes or soft-soled lace up shoes. Heavy footwear, ie. Runners, school shoes, are not to be worn. No student will be allowed to dance with bare feet or socks as they may slip and hurt themselves.

Pink ballet shoes are required for our Contemporary/Ballet Classes.

If you require any assistance purchasing the correct attire please consult with your class teacher, as they will be more than happy to assist. Wearing the appropriate clothing and footwear is essential as it ensures safety and allows teachers to properly monitor the progress of students.

PERFORMANCE ATTIRE

Performance attire will be required for the end-of-year performance. Material, making and trimmings will be purchased with funds invoiced. Get Active Dance aims to provide appropriate costumes for each routine. Sample costumes will be circulated, as you will be asked to help out with the beading.

Students will be required to wear their dance program uniform and own items as requested at the Mid-Year Basket Supper.

ATTIRE

All students agree to abide by The Get Active Dance Code of Conduct and accept that any breach of the Code of Conduct, or any part may result in disciplinary action.

The following Code of Conduct applies to all Get Active Dance students participating in dance activities:

■ Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others.

■ Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others.

■ Accept responsibility for your actions. ■ Make a commitment of always trying

to do your best. ■ Refrain from any form of abuse

toward others. ■ Refrain from using any obscene

language. ■ Refrain from any form of harassment

toward others. ■ Refrain from any form of

discrimination toward others. ■ Refrain from any form of victimization

toward others. ■ Promote the interests of dancing. ■ Be a positive role model. ■ Listen to instructors at all times. ■ Abide by the Get Active Dance

Information Booklet guidelines at all times.

Parents and guardians have a great influence on children s enjoyment and success in dancing. All children dance because they first and foremos love the activity – it’s fun. Parents and guardians should remember that positive encouragement will contribute to:

■ Children enjoying dancing ■ A sense of personal achievement ■ Self-esteem ■ Improving the child’s skills and

techniques

The expectations and attitudes of Parents and Guardians have a significant impact on a child’s attitude towards:

■ Other participants ■ Teachers ■ Coordinators ■ Volunteers

Ensure that you, as a parent/guardian of a child participating in the program, are always positive and encouraging towards all of the children, not just your own.

■ Applaud and praise all children, not just your own.

■ Respect all decisions made by the Coordinator, Instructors and volunteers.

Please Remember: ■ Young people are dancing to satisfy

their own ambitions. ■ Young people are involved for their

own enjoyment. ■ Use appropriate language and

behaviour toward the Coordinator, Instructors, volunteers and participants during the program.

■ Praise each child for their achievements and efforts.

■ Parents/guardians within this program agree to and adhere to the programs code of conduct and child protection policy.
