Extra-curricular activities are offered to children from GS to CM2 in the French Stream and Y1 for the International Stream after school hours on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. They allow children to acquire, in a relaxed atmosphere, some knowledge in painting, dance, music, fencing, drama and to be able to enjoy and exchange language experiences in French and English. These activities are planned per semesters. .

GENERAL INFORMATION

1st Term: 18th September to 19th January 2018 Registration will be conducted online from your parent login area from Saturday 15th July 2017 at 2pm. Before that date, an email will be sent to you with access to parent portal, all registration details and procedure.

2nd Term: 29th January to 8th June 2018 Registration will be conducted online from your parent login area from Saturday 16th December 2017 at 10am. Before that date, an email will be sent to you with access to parent portal, all registration details and procedure.

ECA Shuttle buses Specific ECA shuttle buses with a “bus mother” are serving designated stops, as described below, on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. When registering online you select the shuttle your child will use for the whole semester. Parents must also inform the bus company that their children is using the ECA bus. Biannual fee Primary level activities are semester based. Once student enrolled and activity has started, activity fees must be paid in full irrespective of whether such activity is completed. (cf. Financial Terms) Registration during the semester is possible and will be calculated pro-rata – please contact the aes-eca department for information.

Cancellation Policy Activities may be cancelled due to weather conditions, pollution or closure of the school due to unforeseen circumstances. Refund will not be possible. Courses are automatically cancelled during Red/Black rain warnings, the hoisting of the No.8 Typhoon Signal or when course venues are closed due to inclement weather. Refunds will not be given for non-attendance of lessons for any reason. Once a course has started refunds will not be made. Finally, please note that activities may be cancelled due to lack of the required minimum of pupils.

Insurance In the event of an accident within the premises or during school activities, the school's insurer AXA can assist with the reimbursement of medical expenses. In order to claim, you must pick up an accident declaration form from the school nurse (within 10 days after the accident). This form must be filled, signed and returned to the medical room together with the original medical invoices. EDUCATIONAL EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ART – MASTER PAINTING (6 to 8 years old)

During the sessions, your child will explore

different techniques and different painting supports: dry pastel, pastel grease on paper, oil painting and acrylic on canvas. Different styles of famous artists from different periods will also be tackled to allow their creativity to develop. Thus, the child will be able to produce his own masterpiece. The course is given by an English speaker Art teacher.

CHESS CLUB (CE1 – CM2) NEW

The game of chess is one of the world’s most popular games. It is practiced by millions of people : family, friends, in public places, club, tournament, correspondence, against specialized machines on the Internet, amateur and professionnal levels. Mr Soubiran will teach them all rules and strategies.

CHORUS offers an introduction to basic drama techniques. Through the exploration of body language, mime and improvisation exercises, students will improve their voice, rhythm and space management proficiencies. Those drama workshops will allow children to apply their new knowledge, improve their concentration, as well as express their creative imagination, all in a respectful and playful atmosphere.

ENGLISH CLUB (CE1 à CM2 Beginners and intermediates)

Online registration

Your child will work on empowering and reinforcing their English communication skills. Activities will be play-based, thus allowing children to use their English in authentic, real life situations. We will practice listening and comprehension, as well as speaking. Activities include, but are not limited to the following: Lego, domino rallies, origami, visual art, board games, and videos.

INSTRUMENTAL DISCOVERY (CP - CM2)

Guitar - Violin – Recorder - Online registration.

The ECA Music 1 hour lesson after school, students take time to listen and share. Children are encouraged to express themselves without judgement. Conducted by professional after-school music teachers, each instrumental class consist of maximum 4 students and when it is possible by level. The experience of creating music is hands-on for the children, who develop at their own pace. Playing in groups, children will gain self-awareness through performing solo and duets together. We don’t offer any private one to one lessons. We remind you that this is a session of discovery of music. LEGO (2 groups 5-8y et 9-11y)

There are many educational, developmental and social benefits to playing Lego. Elite Bricks Education offers your children 2 English programs in English: For 5-8 year olds: "the elementary program" during which your child will learn to build models using Lego, to motorize certain constructions. At each session, a new construction will be made. For ages 9-11: "robotic classes": this course uses the new MINDSTORM EV3 technology, programming and models with special lego. Students will go through the different stages (design, engineering, robotics and programming). They will also learn how to use mathematics to work in teams to solve real problems.

MANDARIN (beginner and intermediate level GS/CP)

Your child will boost her/his confidence and interest in French language. She/he will reinforce her/his listening comprehension and develop her/his vocabulary. For each age-group, we propose a set of educational activities that aim to incite your child to speak in French and strengthen her/his language structure.

Every week, your child participates in a new experiment, sings, dances, takes part in educational games or roleplays and create an artwork. Supervised homework sessions are aimed at students who wish to work at the school, supervised and accompanied in their homework by a French teacher. Scholarship holders may send a request to the Board board@lfis.edu.hk in order to have part of the bill taken care of by le Fond des Amis du Lycée.

SPORTS EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

BASKET-BALL (8y to 11y)

This basketball program, open to girls and boys, begins with an introduction to the basics of this sport - throwing, catching and bouncing. Then it progresses quickly on technics. Activity in English.

DANSE (5y to 11y)

This program, open to girls and boys, revolves around Jazz and Free Style. The children will study the techniques of these different styles and incorporate them into the choreography. The Jazz incorporates styles of Bob Fosse, Michael Jackson or Jerome Robbins. Dance4kids, will provide an Anglophone sports teacher and dance instructor will train and guide your child by sharing his passion for the sport. Once the program is completed, each child will have gained more confidence in himself while having fun!

FENCING (CE2 – CM2) NEW

Online registration

Fencing will be offered as an extra curriculum activity at the start of the 2017 - 18 school year. Participants will be able to initiate themselves to the art of fencing sword. This sport develops first and foremost concentration, channeling of energy, and mental resolution. On the physical side, dexterity, coordination and balance will paramount. We have the chance to have Thomas Charrette, specialised in Sabre, who is leading the course. He was member of the French fencing senior team between 2000 and 2006 and has obtained the highest education qualifications from the French Fencing Federation: Brevet d’Etat, Diplôme d’Etat et Diplôme d’Etat Spécialize (State Certificate, State Diploma and Specialised State Diploma). Ladies and Gentlemen: “En garde!”

This program in English is aimed at girls and boys, it focuses on teamwork, skills development and coordination Your child will learn how to pass the ball to his teammates, take the space on the court, dribble in speed and control the ball with head, knee and chest. Classes will be held in the school yard.

MINI – SPORTS (5y to 7y)

Mini-sport classes pay special attention to teamwork, development of specific skills, movements related to speed and agility, and plyometrics (training for jumps). The sports offered by Mini-sport are football, basketball and rugby. We encourage the overall physical development of an athlete rather than a football or basketball player, providing the athlete with a better base to choose the sport he or she wants when he or she is old enough to do so. Children learn the basics of the competition: how to behave as a team or against other teams. They also learn to lose as to win, which is very important. During the in-house games, we are also careful to encourage all children to participate, so that everyone progresses at the same time.
