Osama Bin Laden’s Death: How It Happened

Task: Review the following BBC website as it pertains to the events surrounding the death of Osama Bin Laden. Much of the website is interactive and the questions will require you to view various areas. Please follow the following line

PART 1-From the diagram

1. Click on the “Compound” icon: After reviewing the image, what is your impression of the compound? What might be some advantages and disadvantages to having no access to phone or internet hook-up?

The Compound looks like a jailhouse. Advantages are that they can’t track a person and disadvantages are lack of knowledge ignorance towards where the enemy is.2. Who were some of the individuals privy to the invasion i.e. who was watching it unfold live? Are there more

people then you expected? Explain.President Barack Obama and his security team watched the operation in real time in the safety of the White House.

PART II- From the article

1. Where and when did the raid to capture Osama Bin Laden occur? The operation occurred 120 miles inside of Pakistan and it occurred on May 2nd20112. What events transpired during the raid and what did the Navy Seals seize during the raid?

First one of the two helicopters was forced to crashland. This made a noise that attracted the guards and the Seals were forced to blast their way into the compound. Seals were fired on by the one of the brothers of Bin Laden so they killed him. They moved on and found Bin Laden and his wife killed. Osama Bin Laden.

3. Who were the individuals left behind during the raid? Why do you believe they were left behind and do you believe they should have been eliminated? The individuals left behind were the families of people. It would be okay to leave them behind because it could be a very dangerous mission to complete.

4. Describe the planning and build up to the raid? In your opinion, was this event well-orchestrated? ExplainIt was well orchestrated because it had a hard plan to make. It was quite challenging to formulate but it became easy to do due to the orchestra.

5. Having viewed the image above and read about the exterior description, what specifically makes this a suspicious location?

It is a suspicious location because it looks like a jailhouse, but is the home of Osama Bin Laden. It had an abandon eerie presence.

6. What was the significance of RQ170 Sentinel? What other types of operations might this be useful with?It was useful in the raid. The operations useful with it would include anything that goes over sea to hunt people such as Osama Bin Laden

7. What are some capabilities of Seal Team Six and what was this mission codenamed and why? Seal team 6 was prepared because they had been practicing storming a mock up the compound constructed at the US base on both coasts. It was renamed Geromino EKIA

8. What were some initial challenges to the invasion and what modifications to the original plan were made? The element of surprise was very shocking to the raiders. This was also a challenge because they landed outside the house and also there are many different people there. Also, fighting in a foreign land could be risky.

9. What are some specific accounts of Osama Bin Laden’s Death? Should the public be concerned with the multiple accounts? ExplainSome accounts of his death were unknown because Pakistan was very oblivious to his death. But in America, they said, “We got him” and that was an account. The public shouldn’t be concerned because Bin Laden was killed and that’s a fact.

10. What happened to Osama Bin Laden’s body and why do you believe the American government disposed of the body as such? The U.S. government killed him, shot him twice, shot the wife in the leg, and then flew him over to throw him in the water. They loaded it into the helicopter, it was prepared for burial, placed in a weighted bag and dropped in the water

11. In your opinion, did you believe the capture of Osama Bin Laden helped with the re-election of Barak Obama? Explain

I very much believe it did because America feels much more safe with him in office as the person responsible for the plane crash was eliminated. With this “good work,” America must feel safer with Obama as president.

12. Do you believe the elimination of Osama Bin Laden was worth the vast amount of money and resources used? Did September 11. 2001 make him too popular to effectively orchestrate terrorist attacks again? Explain.

I don’t believe that the elimination of Osama Bin Laden was worth the vast amount of money and resources used because although 9/11 was devastating and evil, it is still not fair to kill someone for it. 9/11 was so awful, it actually made me sick during class. It was scary and stuff, but still I am much against the death penalty and I don’t believe that they had the right to kill Osama Bin Laden even if he is the most wanted and the worst criminal in the whole world.
