They will learn how narrative structure, language, character and setting are used to develop stories. They learn how to make connections to their own experiences and those represented in a variety of short stories.

Shakespeare Study Students are introduced to a text from Shakespeare. They engage in a close study of how language, themes, characters and setting (drama) are constructed to create a drama text.

Journeys – Thematic Study Student study a variety of texts that represent human resilience. They build their analysis and responding skills to study the documentary film, ‘Touching the Void’ and learn how the conventions of documentaries are used to convey meaning of texts.

Dance through the Ages • Students explore Indigenous dance, ballet, social dance, rock & roll, the twist, disco, 50’s, 60’s

& 70’s, and hip-hop, through practical workshops. • Part 1: Performance

Students learn a class work and perform in small groups. The performance must demonstrate safe dance practice, movement skills and performance quality.

• Part 2: Research Task Based on a style of dance explored in class.

Create and Compose • In pairs, students compose a dance work that explores an intent and stimuli, while exploring

the elements of Dance, focusing on the manipulation of Space. • Students hand in a process diary that explains their compositional process. This is marked as a

part of their assessment

Musical Theatre • Students learn and perform a musical theatre routine. The movement characteristics of musical

theatre are recognized and understood experientially. • Students are to individually, create and compose their own movement sequence to a section of

this dance work. This must be within the style of Musical Theatre, and show the manipulation of dynamics.

Students will be introduced to digital photography, the basic functions of a DSLR camera, the creative modes (shutter priority and aperture priority) and Photoshop. Students will explore photographers such as Natsumi Hayashi and respond by creating artworks in a similar style. Summative Assessment (5.1, 5.4)

• Students will be assessed on their Portfolio tasks and their ability to document and explore ideas in their Journal. Both Portfolio and Journal tasks will be made accessible on Google Classroom throughout Term One.

Formative Assessment (5.1, 5.4, 5.7) • Students will complete a self-assessment based on the photography skills they have acquired in Term One • Skills-based tasks will be observed by the teacher on Google Classroom • Students will receive feedback on tasks requiring them to interpret art

Students will explore the elements of art and principals of design through the genres of photojournalism, street photography, documentary photography and travel photography, studying photographers such as Vivian Maier and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Students will begin to develop their manual photography skills and their ability to interpret art, using the Conceptual Framework. Students will also have the opportunity to use the darkroom to develop their work. Summative Assessment (5.2, 5.8)

• Students will be assessed on their understanding of the Conceptual Framework when making critical and historical interpretations of art.

Formative Assessment (5.1, 5.2, 5.4, 5.6, 5.10) • Peer assessment activity • Students will receive feedback on tasks requiring them to interpret art • Students will submit their Portfolios and Journals for teacher feedback

Students will be introduced to moving pictures in the form of animation and film, studying artists such as Wes Anderson and responding by making their own moving artworks. Summative Assessment (5.3, 5.5, 5.6)

• Students will be assessed on their Portfolio tasks and their ability to document and explore ideas in their Journal. Both Portfolio and Journal tasks will be made accessible on Google Classroom throughout Term Three.
