Hunting
Hunting is allowed in the special designated areas (except migratory birds) and hunting farms -in cases
prescribed by law. Hunting farms are formed on the base of physical and legal persons’ hunting licenses,
in order to protect, register and utilize of wild animals. Owner of the hunting license is required to meet
the license conditions and obligations, determined by the hunting management plan.
Hunting is regulated by the general hunting rules (limits and terms). Also there may be established the
quotas and terms for extraction of different species of indigenous animals, determined by the Minister’s
commands. Hunting in hunting farms is allowed only with the consent of the farm-owner.
Fishing
There are three types of fishing in Georgia:
1) Amateur and sport fishing – unlicensed fishing with any kinds of rods, spins fishnets, coracle nets,
stake nets, screens. Underwater hunting and Hydrobionts gathering (without aqualungs and other
respiratory devices) also belong to the amateur sport fishing.
2) Fishing in internal water reservoirs – extraction of fishes from the rivers, lakes, natural and artificial
water reservoirs of Georgia.
3) Fishing for research- study purposes- Any kind of fishing for research-study purposes is allowed with
the consent of the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia

Wood resources
Among the wood products, which exploitation is now regulated, fir cones are of a big importance. In
case of fir cones extraction for export purposes, there is the license issued for utilization of the fir
cones, bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen (which is included in the appendices of the
Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora -CITES)
Extraction of fir cones for non-export purposes is not a subject to the license. Extraction of fir cones for
export purposes is not a subject to the license, if the amount of extracted cones doesn’t exceed the
maximum weight of 5 kg.
The license issuing authority may determine (in terms of state or public interests) the quantitative and
qualitative exploitation regulations, rules, terms and conditions, which are supported by the Ministry of
Environment Protection and approved by the individual legal-administrative act of the Minister.
• Control of the implementation of the license conditions is carried out by the Ministry of Energy and
Natural Resources’ legal entity of public law – the Agency of Natural Resource.
• In case of export of fir cones for commercial purposes, exporter is required to hold the license for
utilization of the fir cones, bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen (which is included in the
appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora -
CITES) issued in his name. If the export isn’t carried out by the license-owner, then the exporter is
required to submit the buy-sell agreement signed with the license-owner and the copy of the license for
utilization of the fir cones, bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen (which is included in the
appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora -
CITES).
The annual quotas on extraction of the bulbs of snowdrops and cyclamen’s root balls, as well as the
output of the fir seeds from the fir cones, are determined by the scientific body. The allowable annual
amount of fire cones extraction is determined by the conclusion of the Ministry of Environment
Protection of Georgia.

No-wood resources
The license is issued in case of extraction of the bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen for
commercial purposes of export. Extraction of the bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen carried
out for non-export purposes is not a subject to license. Also, the license is not granted if the amount of
the bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen doesn’t exceed 50 units. The issues of utilization of
fir cones, bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen, as well as licensing conditions and terms, are
regulated by the provision on “utilization of the fir cones, bulbs of snowdrops and root balls of cyclamen
(which is included in the appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of
Wild Fauna and Flora -CITES)”, which is approved by the N21 resolution issued by the Georgian
government, on February 6, 2007.
