Hurricanes

Be Prepared...

What Causes Hurricanes?….

• Hurricanes can only form in ocean temperatures higher than 27 degrees Celsius so that enough ocean water can rise.

• In Barbados Hurricanes Usually happen in the Summer or the Fall

• Any Cyclonic Activity has to be at least 20 degrees above or below the equator so that it can begin to spin.

How are Hurricanes Created? • 1-The water temperature is above 27

degrees Celsius

• 2-The water changes into vapour and floats up into the air

• 3-The vapour gets colder and it condenses into a cloud

• 4-When the warm air rises it creates an area of low pressure that sucks in more warm air

• 5-Eventually the cloud begins to suck up the cold air from above but because of the earth's rotation the air comes in on an

angle and begins to spin the cloud • 6- The more vapor the Hurricane sucks

in the more powerful it becomes
