Jennifer: Welcome, everyone, to Healing With The Masters. We have a very special guest, a regular,
Neale Donald Walsch. Before I introduce Neale, I want to talk a little bit about masters. I do my little blurb here about masters. It’s worth reminding us that the word has lots of meanings, and some of us may think of masters as the wonderful guests that share their knowledge and experiences with us each week. I consider you to be the master, each of you in this audience, you the participant. No one knows you better than you, and no one is more uniquely qualified to transform your life than you. Today we will together discover the tools and techniques to heal, to continue to shift your life into love and light and, in the process, truly make a difference on this beautiful and special planet of ours. Together we are a powerful community. You matter. You make the difference. You can light up the world.
Tonight we are very honored to welcome our very special and dear friend, Neale Donald
Walsch. Neale has been with us for many seasons now. He is our regular contributor, and we are honored that he chooses to join us each season and share his remarkable evolution of knowledge. His wonderful work, Conversations with God, which he did many years ago, is reaching millions of people all over the world and changing their lives every day. It’s been translated into 34 languages. It’s sold millions of books. It changed my life personally. It is one of the seminal books that got me onto the path that has brought me to this very moment.
He continues to do that with the evolution of thought, with his new Conversations With
Humanity series, where he’s taking these conversations with God to the next level. We are so privileged and honored that this beautiful spiritual messenger, whose words continue to touch us in so many profound and powerful ways, joins us here on Healing With The Masters. Welcome, Neale Donald Walsch, to Healing With The Masters, Volume nine.
Neale: Well, Jennifer, you’re scaring me. There’s no way in the world I can live up to that kind of
advanced billing. People don’t think of themselves in any of those ways, but I am very happy to be here. Thank you very much. Thank you for those kind words. You’re very generous. I feel so completely inadequate.
Jennifer: Well, I appreciate your humility and your humble approach. It really is part of the beautiful
aspect of your teachings, I think, and an important way of being in the world that I think you’re starting to share with us. It can really make us different in how we approach things.
Your wonderful new book, The Storm Before the Calm, is such a wonderful conversation with
humanity. I love how you use that style in the book, where you ask the questions that you get all the time and answer them. So if you folks are looking for Neale to answer the questions

that you’re specifically asking, this book will do it, and more importantly, what this book is going to do is start a global conversation. I’m going to go ahead by starting the whole show by sharing this website.
www.theglobalconversation.com It’s a very special website. Can you tell us, first of all, a little bit about the website? Then I
want to dive right into the seven questions. Neale: I sure can, Jennifer. Thank you for asking me. The website has been designed as a global
platform, a place on the Internet where thousands of people — we’ve had over a million people visit the site already — a place on the Internet where thousands and thousands of people may join us to post many things, number one, to react, actually, to the book, chapter by chapter.
We have a message board there that’s broken down into chapters, so as people read the book,
The Storm Before the Calm, they can actually comment on it or ask questions of me about it, chapter by chapter. I’m very proud of that, because that allows people to have a direct interaction with me, by chapter, through the book. I don’t know of — maybe it’s out there, but right now I’m not aware of any other author who is offering that opportunity to speak with him. Any reader can speak directly with me on the Internet as they’re reading the book.
I can’t tell you, Jennifer, how many times in my life I’ve read a really important book, a book
that was really crucial to my own personal growth, but as I read through it, I would have given anything to be able to talk directly to the author on a per‐chapter basis when I ran across material that I wasn’t quite clear that I totally understood. Here we have an opportunity for people to interact with me in that way.
More importantly, honestly, the other message board that’s on the website is a message
board where we invite people, all the readers of the book, to post their highest ideas and their very best thoughts about how humanity could heal itself by creating a new cultural story for our tomorrows, a new story about every aspect of the way we do our lives on this planet, about how we do our governments, how we do our politics, how we do our economics and our business and commerce, how we handle our environment and our ecology, how we approach the education of our young people, how we deal with marriages and partnerships and sexuality, how we deal with health and how we deal with spirituality and religion and really every aspect of human interaction.
I was told, Jennifer, that the next great mission for humanity itself is for us to create a new
cultural story for our species, that the new story, in this particular case, cannot come down from on high, not from some global religious leader, not from some worldwide political leader, not from some captain of business or industry, not even from some philosopher or great educator. But in fact, the new story for humanity must be written by humanity itself, and this is our great challenge. This is our next frontier, could be the final frontier where we rewrite the script about our life here and how we choose to interact with each other and how we choose to co‐create life together on the planet Earth.
So we invite people, who are at that website, which is:
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 4 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
theglobalconversation.com We invite people to share with us and to post their highest thoughts and their best ideas in
every area of human interaction. We will take the most inspiring and the most extraordinary of those ideas and place them in a book called Our Collective Dream, and that book will be hand‐delivered to the world’s political leaders, the world’s economic leaders, the world’s spiritual leaders. We will see to it that our book is delivered to the Vatican. We will see to it that the book is delivered to the Archbishop of Canterbury. We will see to it that the book is delivered to the chief uvama and the head rabbi, to the President of the United States and the prime ministers and the presidents of all the great countries of the world for that matter.
We will put this book, humanity’s next dream, in the hands of the people who have the
opportunity to impact and to help co‐create that dream from their places of power and authority in the human experience. So we are inviting people to, in fact, to turn a phrase, to write the book and to create the book, which could stand as the Magna Carta, as the global statement for all the world to see and to read and for the world’s leaders to take under advisement as they create our collective tomorrows. That’s the point of the website, to give people an opportunity to create, collectively, people from all over the world, our new cultural story.
Jennifer: It’s a magnificent thing that you’re kind of — I don’t want to say that we’re doing, because I
know doing is not the point here. It’s a wonderful thing that you’ve created for us. Neale: Well, thank you. Jennifer: I just want to say to the audience, if you want your voice to be heard, if you want to make the
difference, go to: theglobalconversation.com And contribute. Just imagine your beautiful voice being read by these leaders around the
world. It’s a wonderful thing, but this notion of doing is not the point here. I’d love to talk a little bit about be, do, have that you mention in the book and about beingness as a new way of — instead of a new social economy or a new capitalism or not even democracy or anything like that, there’s beingism. Did I get that right?
Neale: Yes, yes. It’s a new word I’ve coined, and the word suggests a manner of experiencing life and
a way, through the world, for that love to be expressed more fully, more completely and more abundantly by all the peoples of the Earth. So we are calling for an inviting people to move to a new level in their expression of their own humanity, and that level is what I call beingness.
That doesn’t mean we won’t be doing things. That doesn’t mean that we’re going to be sitting
in a corner someplace, looking at a candle flickering in the darkness, listening to soft music 24 hours a day. It does mean that we will be doing many things, but our doingness, what I call doingness, the stuff we’re doing every day of our lives, will be based in a different reality. That is how and why we do the things we do will be dramatically different from what it is today.
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 5 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
Jennifer: So the how and why changes. Neale: Yeah, that’s right, and that’s the intention and the purpose of the entire website. That’s the
intention and the purpose of the entire program and of the whole movement. Jennifer: You say that, in this notion of beingness, life comes from us, not to us. Say a little bit more
about that. Neale: I think that it’s a misunderstanding of many people, that life is somehow coming to us from
someplace outside of us. In fact, the truth is that life is emerging from us and that it is not a process of receiving but rather a process of sending the creative energies of life to life. We do it collectively, and we do it individually, but we’re doing it all the time.
So most people experience that life is something that is happening to them, rather than
something that is happening through them. What I have been told, in my conversations with God, is that it’s precisely the other way around. That doesn’t mean, necessarily, that we are, all of us, individually and unilaterally creating the circumstances of the life that we are experiencing.
That is, I am not in the singular, I am not in the first‐person, responsible for the conditions in
Iraq or for the tsunami that devastated the Earth a couple of years ago, or for that matter, for my uncle falling down the stairs and breaking his ankle. It would be inaccurate to assume or to suggest, to myself or to others, that I am somehow unilaterally or individually creating that exterior event. That’s a misunderstanding, Jennifer, that I think people need to be clear about.
One of the great misunderstandings of so‐called new‐thought philosophy and the new‐thought
message is the idea that somehow or another human beings are creating their own reality individually, and so therefore I am, according to that concept, I am responsible for personally and individually creating the tsunami and, for that matter, my uncle falling down the stairs last week.
That has created a lot of misunderstanding, Jennifer, and a lot of people push back from the
idea that you create your own reality because of that misunderstanding, because they say, quite correctly, “I don’t feel good about it, nor do I feel prepared to accept responsibility for all the happenings of the world as if all of it is my doing.” In fact, it is not.
What is true is that we are collaboratively creating the exterior events of our reality and
individually creating the interior response to those events. In that sense, we are creating our own reality. Jennifer, the example that I like to use is two people are standing outside, and it’s raining. It could not be said that one of them or the other, for that matter, individually caused the rain to occur. They are not individually powerful enough in the universe to decide what kind of weather they want to have on any particular day. Collaboratively, creatively, the whole of humanity could make such choices, and we do.
Collective consciousness produces, absolutely, the conditions and circumstances that we face
in the world every day, but what does happen is that each of the two people who are watching the rain come down are able to decide for themselves and to choose for themselves exactly what that means. So person A is excited, because his crops are not going to fail, and person B
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 6 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
is devastated, because it’s the day of the parade. He is the parade organizer for the city, and he’s been planning the parade for seven months.
So both of them have different experiences of the exact same exterior of the reality. That’s
what’s meant by you create your own reality. That’s what’s meant by the reality you are living is emerging through you, not coming to you. What is coming to you is the collaborative experience, the collective reality that has been created by life collectively, by, that is, the collective consciousness of all beings on the planet. Does that make any sense? Have I made that clear, or did I lose you?
Jennifer: Yeah. No, no. It’s clear, I think, that we are collectively influencing everything through our
own interior beliefs. You talk quite a bit about beliefs. Is that kind of the frame of reference here?
Neale: Yes. The collective beliefs of humanity, of course, is what we call our collective consciousness.
The collective consciousness of humanity is what is creating our collective and collaboratively‐produced experience, which is not new information. Philosophers and scientists, for that matter, for many, many years have been making that very clear, that we have what’s known as the collective unconscious.
So we’ve heard these words from philosophers and scientists, as well as from members of the
spiritual community for a very long time. We’ve not listened to them closely, however. Now, it is possible that a person with a strikingly strong individual belief system or point of view can, in fact, have an extraordinary impact and influence upon collective consciousness.
That is, without a doubt, true, and we know people in human history who have had just such
an impact, Martin Luther King, Jr. for example, Gandhi, for example, and to go back to times far more ancient than that, people like the Buddha and the Christ, Mohammad and others. So we are clear that a person who has a very strong consciousness has the ability to impact and to deeply influence collective consciousness. There’s no doubt about that.
Jennifer: So our work within can really shift the whole. Neale: There’s no question about that, and what it will also do, it will shift the experience that each of
us have of the whole, and that will produce a profound change in our own movement through life, such that it will turn itself into energies that precede so much into life itself.
Let me clarify what I meant by that statement. If I am deciding within myself that the rain
outside is a good thing and not a bad thing, if I’m making an affirmative judgment about that, whatever the exterior event might be, I will feel good about it, and I will then begin to carry wherever I go an aura of positive feelings, which will, in fact, add to the collective consciousness in such a way that more positive outcomes begin to be produced collectively in both the space around me and extended out further to the world at large. So it’s a circular effect, a circular impact. It’s quite extraordinary.
Jennifer: And it feels very empowering too, that me, sitting here, adjusting my limiting beliefs, adjusting
my — you talk about the main limiting beliefs in our culture, which is a belief in separation, a
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 7 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
belief in lack, a belief that we are not divine. If I can fundamentally change them, I can actually impact the entire planet and our entire cultural story.
Neale: Yes, and that, of course is where the power lies. Our ability to functionally alter the beliefs
that drive the engine of our experience, that is where both the individual and the collective power of human beings lies. Once we understand that, we of course begin to live entirely different kinds of lives.
Jennifer: It’s very exciting, and I’m feeling the energy of the whole audience just being kind of buoyed
up on this energy of possibility that we actually can make a difference. So let’s talk a little bit about — you talk about the new cultural story for humanity in your book. I’m curious to get your words directly. What would you put into a new cultural story for humanity?
Neale: You’ve asked me the question of the century. Of course that would take another whole book
to answer. The new cultural story for humanity covers every area of human experience, as I mentioned a minute ago, sexuality and parenting and livelihood, the economy, the ecology, politics, every area of human interaction. I don’t think we have time, in this particular program, for me to tell you what my new cultural story would be for humanity. I can give you one huge, broad‐brush stroke, which apparently is what you’re looking for.
Jennifer: Sure. Neale: That would be an overarching awareness, an overarching understanding, a deeply held insight
to the human condition that would inform all those areas I just talked about. It would inform our politics. It would inform our economics, our business and industry and commerce and inform our educational systems, our spirituality and all the rest of the areas of human interaction that I spoke of a minute ago.
That overarching idea can be reduced to four words. We are — the same powerful statements
in Conversations With God. We are all one overlaid on humanity’s cultural story as it is articulated and expressed and experienced in all those areas I spoke of. That single idea as the foundation of our economics, of our politics, of our educational systems, of our spirituality. That foundational thought would shift the world overnight.
So we’ve been told, we’ve understood from the beginning of time — we’ve understood for a
very long time the basic truth of the universe that would change everything. We simply have refused to embrace it. We simply have refused to entertain it. We simply have refused, actually, to seriously explore it in any but the smallest numbers. The largest number of people have simply moved away from it, and that is because there has been a singular lack of leadership in our spiritual areas, in our political communities, in our business and industry. No one wants to seriously consider what it would mean to live a life, much less to build a world, based on the idea that we are all one.
That doesn’t mean that there are no differences. It doesn’t mean that we are all identical. We
are all one does not mean that we are all identical. It simply means we are all one, and the difference between the two is obvious. So a lot of people are afraid of embracing the notion of our oneness because they feel that they will lose their personal identity and that they will
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 8 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
somehow meld into some massive amorphous being, like the Borg, and that we will not ever know ourselves individually again.
Nothing could be further from the truth, and in fact, it’s not what is so. So oneness is not
synonymous with sameness, and that’s, I think, another important message that most teachers in the New Thought community leave out when they talk about the oneness of all of humanity.
If we could teach children, in school, at a very young age, certain foundational ideas, not the
least of which is that we are all one, we would, in fact, in one generation, be able to shift the reality of our world and change dramatically the way we view life on this planet.
I want to add, when I say we are all one, I’m not merely talking about us being one with each
other. There are a lot of people who can actually accept that. “Okay, we’re one,” in the sense that I’m my brother’s keeper. We’re all part of the same family, the human family. So I accept, and I embrace the notion of our oneness. But I’m talking about a notion of oneness that transcends the limitation of the human family.
When I say we are all one, I mean we are all one being, a singular expression of the only thing
there is. To put it in straightforward, point‐blank terms, we are all one with God. We are all one with the only thing there is, which some cultures call God, Allah, Brahman, Yahweh, Jehovah or by whatever other name it pleases us to refer to that ineffable essence, which is the Divine.
So the notion of our oneness is not a notion that is spoken of or taught in our schools, in our
religions, in our political parties or really, frankly, anywhere in any serious expansive way that I am aware of. Yet again, I want to make mention of the fact that, if we embraced such a notion, we could change the way the world is experienced in one generation.
Jennifer: We are all one, and there’s a second part to that, that you talk about in the book. It’s in your
Conversation With God book, which is ours is not a better way; ours is merely another way. To me, that statement gives such space for people to be not the same as each other and allow each other to have an opinion. It just creates a whole opportunity for changing the whole dynamic of how all of us interact with one another.
Neale: That’s what I call the 15‐word new gospel. The new gospel of humanity is we are all one. Ours
is not a better way; ours is merely another way. I can tell you that, if we ever embraced that gospel as our living truth, we really would, no exaggeration, change the way life is experienced on the Earth virtually overnight, certainly in one generation.
I have never heard — and I would challenge on this day, I would challenge every world leader,
every political figure, every religious figure, every captain of business and industry, every teacher in every classroom — I would challenge any one of those people, even one of them, to say to their students, to their followers, to their congregation, to their party members, to their customers, to whatever audience they could address — I would challenge any one of them to say, “We are all one. Ours is not a better way; ours is merely another way.”
Can you imagine the Pope standing before the world saying, “Ours is not a better way; ours is
merely another way”?
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 9 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
Jennifer: Wow. That would be a miracle. Neale: Can you imagine the head of any political party, could you imagine Mitt Romney or Barack
Obama saying to America, “Ours is not a better way; ours is merely another way”? Can you imagine Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum saying such a thing? Can you imagine the premier of any major nation, the top political leader in Russia or the top educator at Yale or Harvard — I want to hear any person have the courtesy, have the courage to say to the world, “Our is not a better way; ours is merely another way.”
That would bring a level of civility and, as you mentioned, a level of openness to the discourse
that would allow people to explore the gift and the treasure of every point of view and every idea and then to shift through, then, rather than immediately off the table, off the top just disregard it, because it came from the so‐called other side in a conversation. So it is regrettable that right now, both in the United States and, to some degree around the world, civil discourse. Civil courteous interaction between people who hold opposing points of view is no longer a commonly observed aspect of human behavior.
Jennifer: So we can change the discourse by merely adopting that new gospel for ourselves in our own
lives. Neale: Precisely, precisely, by being walking demonstrations of the wonderfulness, if I could coin a
word, of the new gospel. We are all one. Ours is not a better way; ours is merely another way. Such a demonstration, such a living, breathing demonstration would go far, and people who exhibited the qualities that would be necessary to demonstrate that truth would be hailed as new leaders in our communities, in our churches, in our political parties, in our board rooms of our major corporations and anywhere else that particular people congregate.
To say nothing of in our classrooms. Can you imagine a curriculum for young people,
anywhere from ages 6 and 7 to 16 and 17, can you imagine a curriculum in our schools that would begin, not end but begin with the concepts we are all one, ours is not a better way, ours is merely a better way. So we’re talking about here, yes, a life‐changing, simple, 15‐word new gospel. Because it is life‐changing, very few people would have the courage to embrace it, because our political, economic, social, educational and spiritual leaders have a deep investment in things remaining exactly as they are.
Jennifer: This community and the community that you’re building on: theglobalconversation.com Has a deep investment in moving into a place of expansion, opportunity and possibility, and it
comes from knowing how powerful we are. I want to talk about this notion of personal responsibility and divinity and belief. It’s such a seminal piece of this new guiding principle, that we can start believing in ourselves, start believing in our own divinity, start believing in the power that we have and start moving from maybe victimhood and moving to a place of personal responsibility and shifting.
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 10 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
You talk quite a bit about that throughout the book. It’s not really a question. It’s kind of a broad statement, but I would love for you to fill in some gaps there on — tell us more about how important our role is in our belief structure.
Neale: Jennifer, I feel like I’m preaching to the choir here, because the kinds of statements you’re
making are the kinds of statements that people who listen to your programs — they already believe in that. So they’re probably yawning at this point. It’s going to sound very ho‐hum to them. We’ve been hearing now, in the New Thought community, and for that matter, more broadly, in much of the world at large, how we are responsible, either metaphysically or physically, for that matter, individually responsible and certainly collectively so for the outcomes that humanity is creating and experiencing.
So it’s not new. It’s not New Thought. It’s not New Age. It’s not new information. It’s been
around for a very long time, and people in the so‐called New Thought community are probably getting a little tired of hearing it. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. We understand. We understand. We understand.”
The real issue is not so much what can I say here now to help people hear one more time that
we need to take personal responsibility, both spiritually and physically for our world at large, but really to discuss how that’s possible, to take a look at how could we take that thought, which we all already embrace, and render it functional in our daily lives. That becomes the real question, because I don’t think that people have really grappled with that particular question. How can I make this idea of my own personal responsibility in the matter functional in my own daily life?
What it’s going to take is courage and commitment and leadership on the part of everyone
who’s listening now to the sound of my voice. It’s not something that we do passively. It’s something that we would do actively. It’s something that would actively create and actively produce outcomes based on our active choice and our active decision to do so, which is an outgrowth or an out‐flowing of our active intention to fully embrace our role as who we really are, as in fact, the collaborative co‐creators of our collective reality.
That is both a physical and a metaphysical decision and choice. It is an interior decision that
produces exterior outcomes, impacts and effects. So the first step of the process, as I understand it, Jennifer, is we have to make an interior decision. That is, we have to make a decision at the level of beingness. We have to decide what we choose to be.
To give you an example, and this is not to break my own arm patting myself on the back, but to
give you a practical example, I have chosen to be that source, which impacts all those whose lives I touch and, to the degree that I am able, the world at large with a larger awareness, a grander understanding, a bigger idea, a stronger notion, a more magnificent vision of who we really are and who we can now choose to be if we choose to do so.
So that’s who I am. That is my, what I will call, amingness statement. It’s kind of like Amway.
That is the way I am. If we could make that a multi‐level marketing scheme, it would be off and running.
Jennifer: Let’s do it.
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 11 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
Neale: The great Amway multi‐level marketing scheme. What is the way that I am? But the first step
is the most difficult for many people. I’ll tell you why. Because it takes a great deal of inner courage to make such a deep inner decision, because we know that, if we make such a deeper inner decision, it’s going to be showing up. It’s going to be reflected in our outer behaviors sooner or later, and people are going to call us on it.
People are going to say, “Excuse me, but who do you think you are? Did I actually hear you
say, on the radio, on a broadcast program, that you think that you are the source or certainly one of the sources on the planet of inspiring and igniting a global shift in planetary consciousness? Did I hear you say that? Who do you think you are?”
So we have to, in fact, answer the question literally. We have to, in fact, answer the question
by saying, “This is who I think I am. In fact, I am that, and I’m not sure I know why you’re having a problem with my being that, because by the way, you are that too. You are likewise impacting and affecting global consciousness. There’s only one difference between us. I’m doing it intentionally, and you may be doing it unintentionally.”
Each of us is placing our individual energy, choices, decisions, ideas, actions, thoughts into the
cauldron, into the space, into the mix. We’re all doing it, but I tell you this, those who do it with consciousness, with intention, with clarity, change the contents of the cauldron itself. That is, we mix up the mixture, and those are the Martin Luther King, Jrs. Those are the Gandhis. Those are the Lech Walesas. Those are the people who stand up and say, “Excuse me. I beg your pardon, and might we consider another possibility here? Might we consider another way?” Those are the people who, in fact, alter, shift and change the world at large, the world entire.
So that is the first step. The first step in rendering this concept of personal responsibility
functional is to, in fact, step into our own highest thought about it and state that to ourselves. The second step then, it seems to me, is to watch life bring us, in succeeding moments, after we make that decision, opportunities to demonstrate it. It will often bring us those opportunities in the form of the exact opposite conditions.
That is, the law of opposites will play its effect, or to put it in simple terms, to give you a really
easy example, I might say, “I am Neale the patient. I am a patient person, and I am Neale the patient person.” No sooner will I make that declaration than everything unlike it will come into the space. If I’m not careful, I will push back from that, and I will remove myself from the space of struggle with that. But that inner struggle to be the highest thought of who we really are is what the Islamic faith calls jihad.
The word jihad has gotten a really bad name, a really bad wrap in recent years, because it’s
been misused, as many spiritual principles have been misused by many people of many religions. In the Muslim religion, in the faith of Islam, jihad was not intended to be used as a term for exterior war or killing or terrorism or using death and destruction as a means of changing the world. Jihad was originally placed into the theological language of Islam as a term that referred to one’s inner struggle, the inner struggle to reach higher and higher, to express grander and grander, to display bigger and bigger notions of who we are, thus to
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 12 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
become closer and closer to Allah, to God itself. That was the original meaning of the word jihad.
That’s what I’m talking about here as our second step, because as soon as we decide anything
about ourselves, everything unlike it is going to come into the space. That’s a moment of decision for us. Did I really mean that, or am I willing to let go of it now because it’s gotten, all of a sudden, very, very difficult?
I want to say that the third step in the process of activating our idea that we are all responsible
is to feel the fear and do it anyway. We’ve heard that often, from many, many teachers. It’s a wonderful, wonderful message. Feel the fear and do it anyway, to step into your original notion and your original intent and to allow that intent to play itself out, not just in the grand moments of life, when we’re onstage in front of an audience or in front of a microphone, as we are now, talking to thousands of people, but in the small moments of our life as well, across the kitchen table, across the front seat of a car, walking down the street, standing in the line at the supermarket and living the quiet moments of our everyday life.
In fact, I want to say that, more than the other moments, those times even more than the so‐
called big moments of our lives, those are the times when we will have an opportunity to announce and to declare, to express and to fulfill, to become and to demonstrate our grandest notion of the space of responsibility we are willing to take as we stand responsible for the results all around us, that we are placing into the experience of humanity at large.
How am I in the barbershop? How am I at the supermarket? How am I at the breakfast table?
I can be very eloquent in an interview with Jennifer McLean. I can be very insightful. I can be filled with wisdom and surround myself with absolute clarity. How am I when I’m driving down the road and somebody cuts me off in traffic or when my beloved other makes a suggestion across the front seat of the car that I’m not particularly happy to receive?
It’s in the small moments of life that the big choices are made. Everyone needs to remember
that and put it on their refrigerator. It is in the small moments of life that the biggest choices are made.
Jennifer: Wow. I kind of felt like I wanted that to sit there. That’s going to be the phrase that pays. The
small moments of life that the biggest choices are made. Neale: It’s in the smallest moments of life that the biggest choices are made. No question about that. Jennifer: And I can feel the audience — I can feel myself kind of contract a little bit against that, because
I have many small moments that I’m not proud of. Neale: Well, fortunately you’re the only one. Jennifer: Oh, thank God. It’s just me. So I’m the only one that’s screwing up humanity, Neale. Neale: Yeah, so please clean your act up, because the rest of us are waiting for you. What’s really
funny is that we all feel that way. All of us feel exactly that way. That’s what’s funny and, in

some ways, sad, because we feel that, “If only I weren’t doing what I’m doing, if only I weren’t messing up the way I’m messing up, things would be better all around us.”
The fact of the matter is that we have to let go of that idea. First of all, Jennifer, nobody’s
messing up. Even if we’re not doing it exactly the way we would like to, even if in every moment we are not showing up in our grandest, largest, biggest form, we are still not messing up. It is all part of the enormous process. The endless, continuous process of evolution.
So I’ve learned to forgive myself of those times when I’m not in my smallest moments, my
biggest self, but I’ve also learned not to tolerate repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I’ve allowed my life to be instructive to me. I’ve decided to watch what I’m doing and not be mad or angry with myself when I don’t do it in the best way, but also to not be oblivious but rather to notice and use each so‐called error as a steppingstone and a rung on the ladder up to the highest place which I seek to go.
There’s an old story about that ladder analogy. It’s about the spiritual leader who is talking to
his people. They were in a valley outside a fort, and they had been told that, on the other side of the wall, inside the fort, the people were having a wonderful life, all they could possibly want, all the joy, all the happiness they could possibly conceive of. But outside the walls of the fortress, people were starving, living a terrible life, barely surviving, very angry, but there was a spiritual leader who said, “I can show you the way over the wall so that we can climb the ladder and get to the other side of the wall.”
So he convinced them to build a ladder. It took them many years to build the ladder high
enough, but painstakingly, rung‐by‐rung, they built the ladder. He went up the ladder to the top rung so he could see over the wall, and they said, “Master, is it true? Is it true that what’s on the other side is paradise; all anyone could possibly imagine or conceive of? Tell us, master. What do you see?”
He said, “It’s true. It’s true. It’s paradise. It’s wonderful. It’s extraordinary.” They said,
“Master, go. Go over the wall. Go to the other side. Be the first of us. You deserve it. You’ve been our leader for all these years. You deserve it. Go over the wall. We will follow.” The master said, “No. No, it is not mine to go over the wall.”
With that, he reached down, and he said, “Come. Come. I have not come to the top of this
ladder to be the first to reach the highest place. I’ve come to the top of this ladder to be the first to reach down and pull you up to the place I am and even beyond.”
Jennifer: That was beautiful. I’m a little emotional, so I’m recovering. This is not only what your life is,
and I know you’re not saying that story to illustrate your life, but that is what’s possible for all of us to be doing.
Neale: It’s the definition, Jennifer, of leadership. A leader is not one who says, “Follow me.” A leader
is one who says, “I’ll go first.” Jennifer: Yeah, baby. I’m in. We’ve been talking about personal responsibilities. We’ve been talking
about beliefs, and some of the audience is sharing that personal stuff about — you even wrote this question in your book. It’s going along with what a lot of people are writing in, which is

how do you make this work, as in your life and all of this, if you don’t have what you need to have in order to be what you wish to be? So getting back to that notion of be, do, have versus our current cultural story, which is have, do, be, how do we make it work if we don’t have it?
Neale: There’s nothing you need to have in order to be what you want to be. You don’t need to have
anything in order to be kind, in order to be good, in order to be cheerful, in order to be loving, in order to be caring and compassionate and patient and understanding and forgiving. You don’t need to have anything in order to be what you’ve chosen to be. You merely need to actively choose to be that, regardless of what you have, regardless of whatever exterior circumstances exist currently in your life.
The glory and the wonder of life is that we can be whatever we say we wish to be. The wonder
and glory of life is that we are what we say we are. So I have taught now, for nearly 15 years, choose to be what you wish to be, secure, happy, peaceful, wise, clear, caring, compassionate, forgiving, regardless of the exterior circumstances, situations or events in your life. What you will discover then is that suddenly the exterior situations or circumstances in your life will begin to emerge from you and through you. They also have been. You simply haven’t noticed it.
When you adopt and embrace a state of being with complete intention, with absolute clarity,
the universe has no choice but to match its vibration to yours, and you begin to experience exterior circumstances and events that are more in harmony with your clearly stated beingness. But you have to have the courage to state your beingness in the face of, and I might say in spite of, appearances to the contrary.
So judge not by appearances. It may appear as if you don’t have enough money, or it may
appear as if you don’t have enough time, or it may appear as if certain other conditions and circumstances are holding you back. Nothing is holding you back from being totally loving, totally clear, totally compassionate, totally understanding, totally forgiving, totally creative or totally anything.
As soon as you are clear about that, as soon as you become totally clear about that and
embrace your state of clarity as your state of being, you will begin to act in ways that generate outcomes in the physical world that only a person who is those things could possibly generate.
Jennifer: So the things in our physical world, our tools — they’re tools, but you also say in your book
that we are not here to be tested or to experience lessons. That’s not why we’re on the planet.
Neale: No, no, no. Life is not a school. No, no. Life is not a school, because we have nothing to learn.
We already know everything we need to know when we arrive here. Life is not a school. Life is a platform, a space, an environment, if you please, a context, contextual field within which we are invited and allowed to demonstrate what we already know, to demonstrate who we already are and who we have always been. So life is not about learning anything. It’s not about being tested. It’s not being given an opportunity to demonstrate what we’ve always known.

Look at the tree outside your window. It knows nothing more now than it knew when it was a seedling or, for that matter, when it was a seed itself, no larger than your fingernail. It knew everything when it was a seed, everything it needed to know to be the magnificent tree it is right now. It was encoded in it. All it has done from that time to now is simply grow into itself. That is, it’s simply become more itself.
The only mistaken understanding within the human experience is you think you’re different
from a tree, but in fact, if God would imbue a simple, although elegant and lovely, tree with such initial encoding, would he not all the more clothe you? So don’t go around wondering, what are we to eat, what are we to drink? Wherewithal will we clothe ourselves? Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven, and all these things will be added unto you.
It’s really quite simple, and we don’t have to have anything in order to be what we choose to
be. But these understandings form the basis of the seven questions that I ask in The Storm Before the Calm. Before we say goodbye, I want to get to those seven questions, because you promised those to our listeners.
Jennifer: Yes, let’s do that. Neale: In The Storm Before the Calm, I asked people to take a list of seven questions and use those
questions as the basis for on‐the‐ground discussions, conversations that they will have with people all over the world in cities, towns and villages everywhere. I invite people to form global conversation discussion groups in their home or just spontaneously create conversations at their place of business, around the water cooler, walking down the street, in the beauty parlor, wherever they happen to be, that you allow those conversations to revolve around seven simple questions.
Question number one: how is it possible for 6.9 billion people to all claim they want the same
thing and be unable to get it? How is it possible? We haven’t been trying this for a couple of weeks or a couple of months or a couple of years or a couple of decades or a couple of centuries. We’ve been trying to achieve this particular outcome, health, peace, safety, security, prosperity, love, happiness, joy, opportunity, self‐expression — we’ve been trying to create those outcomes for the largest members of our species for thousands and thousands of years. How is it possible for seven billion people to be trying to produce the same outcome for thousands of years and be totally unable to do it?
Question number two: is it possible that there’s something we simply don’t understand here,
the understanding of which would change everything? Might there be some data out, something that we’re missing? Has it occurred to us that the reason we can’t get where we want to go, after thousands of years of trying, is that we’re going to the wrong place to begin with?
Question number three: is it possible that there’s something we don’t understand about who
we are individually, the understanding of which would change our individual lives forever for the better? That’s what we’ve been discussing for the past hour.
Then the four fundamental questions of life: who am I? Where am I? Why am I where I am,
and what do I intend to do about that?
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 16 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
I suggest to people that every morning, every noon and every night, they ask themselves those
four fundamental questions, when you arise in the morning, when you find yourself in midday, when you’re ready to close out the day’s activities in the evening, to ask yourself those four fundamental questions. Who am I? Where am I? Why am I where I am, and what do I intend to do about that?
When we ask and answer those questions, we give ourselves a framework, a roadmap, a
pathway — I call it the pathway of the soul — to get where we are choosing to be. When we answer those four fundamental questions, we will have answered the three persistent questions that preceded it.
How is it possible for us to want the same thing and be unable to get it? Is it possible there’s
something we don’t fully understand here, the understanding of which would change everything? Is it possible there’s something I don’t understand about myself, the understanding of which would alter my life for the better forever?
The questions are circular. If you answer one, you answer them all, and that’s what we discuss
in The Storm Before the Calm, and that’s what we invite people to explore deeply at: theglobalconversation.com. Jennifer: Yeah, and I like the notion of carrying — I’m writing them down now on a small piece of paper
and carry it in my wallet and just having it over dinner conversations or in the grocery store or just having one or two of those conversations, just starting a dialogue, starting a discourse. Those questions, that level of deep self‐inquiry is the opportunity for us to make a change on the planet. These are not just questions that have one‐word answers. These are questions that force us deep. Is that the intention, Neale?
Neale: Yes, of course. As you say, any one of those questions can launch an entire evening’s
conversation. My hope is that people will get together on a regular basis, once every other week, twice a month, maybe more, with a group of four, five, eight or ten people and simply continue to bat it around, bat it around until they come up with some solid answers that they can all — not necessarily all agree with, but they all hear each other and can be all aware of the answers that are coming up in the room, because ultimately those kind of conversations can lead to actions. It’s not just about talking about it.
Jennifer: Yeah. These questions themselves led to the action of this website and this discourse and this
book. Did they not? Neale: Precisely, and the idea is, if enough people get together and ask those kinds of questions, what
will happen is that people will turn those conversations into choices and decisions that will change their on‐the‐ground lives. Ultimately it could even ignite what I want to call the gentlest revolution. That’s what I call it in the book, the gentlest revolution.
Every shift in humanity’s experience of itself has been created by a beginning conversation.
Somewhere, sometime, someplace, two people or more sat down and started simply talking about things, and then they talked some more, and they talked some more until they ignited,

once again, the fire that burns exists within each one of us, the Hanukkah flame that never goes out. Love the story of Hanukkah, the flame that never goes out.
That flame exists within us, and we brighten it. We add fuel to the fire. So it’s igniting a fire in
the belly, as Joseph Campbell would call it, and soon people begin to move into action. They say, “There must be something we can do to turn this being this into doing this to fundamentally shift the on‐the‐ground reality in the world.”
In fact, as you suggest, they wind up writing books, watching websites, giving lectures, creating
all sorts of outreach opportunities, not the least of which are programs, for instance, called maybe Healing With The Masters, daring to place into the space of the human experience new ideas that could shift our global reality, collectively and individually, forever.
Jennifer: And we make the difference. Neale: If we don’t make the difference, I don’t know who does. If it’s not happening in this day and
time, then it’s never going to be happening. To use a wonderful phrase from the Jewish tradition, if not now, when, and if not you, who?
Jennifer: Yeah. I remember a friend saying, “Who am I to —” and I said, “Who are you not to?” Every
single one of us has that fire that’s just been ignited. It’s been ignited in other ways, but there’s a new ignition here. These seven questions here can ignite fires in lots of people. It’s giving you an action item even to go out into the world, start a group, start questioning yourself.
In fact, I’m being called — I do a writing practice every morning, where my dear friend and
mentor, Mary A. Hall, created a program where you write, basically, to the Divine, and the Divine answers for you. It’s likely similar to how you have your conversations with the Divine. I’m going to ask Him these questions. I’m going to do a seven‐day program. I might do it for a couple of weeks and ask these questions every morning and see what shows up.
Neale: What a wonderful idea. Jennifer: There’s an action item. Thank you, Neale. Neale: You’re welcome. Thanks for the opportunity to share with you today. I’ve enjoyed this visit
very much. Jennifer: Oh, very much. Before you go, I do want to talk about your special offer, and then I’m going to
ask you just one final question. We have a really beautiful special offer. If you’re looking for a deeper conversation about The Storm Before the Calm and the ideas and the content there, Neale has a beautiful set of audios he’s created for us. It’s not available anywhere else. It’s just for the Healing With The Masters audiences. It’s going to go really deep into these materials and answer some of the questions. It’s based on some recent conversations and lectures Neale has given. It’s beautiful content that will really allow you to really explore this really important material.
Jennifer McLean’s Healing With The Masters: Vol. 9 Page 18 of 27 Guest: Neale Donald Walsch May 22, 2012 Copyright 2012. All Rights Reserved. Jennifer McLean | Healing With The Masters
This is fundamental stuff, really fundamental stuff. A lot of the Conversation with God material is kind of formulated into this new Conversations with Humanity and a new conversation that you can have. So it’s a powerful set of audios that will really change the way that you are living your life. That’s my interpretation. Would you have anything to add to that, Neale?
Neale: Not a word. I don’t have anything to add. Not at all. Jennifer: There’s a little bird that’s just showed up outside my window that’s agreeing. It’s like an inch
away from me. Neale: You mean a little bird told you? Jennifer: Yes, indeed, literally. That’s option one, and option two is a really wonderful program that
Neale and I did together last year. It’s called Life Lessons with Neale Donald Walsch. It’s a seven‐audio series. It comes with full transcripts, and it’s a powerful program that Neale went through some really cool topics. Some of the things that Neale was talking about earlier in the show that would take an entire book he actually discusses here, things like parenting. It’s one of the most profound parenting dialogues I’ve ever heard. I actually have shared it with several of my friends who have children, who have just gone on and on and on and on about how powerful that program was for them. It’s really changed their life and how they parent.
Dissolving the Illusion of Lack: there’s a good one for you. It’s a powerful program that really
allows you to understand who you are, what lack is, how to overcome it. There’s also one, Releasing Old Habits and Patterns and Stories, letting go of those old stories, taking responsibility, as Neale was talking about tonight. Dealing With Negative Energy as You Walk Your Talk is another topic, and then Staying Centered When Life Goes Wild. There was a great one that really allowed us to find that moment of peace that we’ve all been searching for in the midst of so many things that are happening to our lives.
Then a really beautiful one and powerful one was Connecting the Mind and Soul, how to do it
when you need it. It’s a really important aspect of our being as we move forward in this, is connecting the mind and the heart and the mind and the soul and finding a balance within that. Then there was a special Q and A that brought forth the most amazing Q and A from the audience, that brought forth the most amazing conversation. One was about the Holocaust and why it happened, and Neale’s response is astonishing. So that’s all part of that special offer. You go to:
specials.healingwiththemasters.com/neale Thank you, Neale, for that wonderful offer, for providing two products that aren’t available
anywhere else at the moment and are available for our Healing With The Masters audience. It’s a fabulous grouping of products. Thank you for that.
Neale: Well, thank you, Jennifer. I appreciate very much the opportunity to co‐create with you in that
way. It’s been a wonderful chance for me to get out some very important messages that have ignited and fueled my life, and I appreciate our partnership.

Jennifer: Me too. So one final thought. It’s a big question, but hopefully we can get a short answer, which is what role have we come here to play as individuals?
Neale: I can give you the shortest answer you could ever imagine. How about one word? God. Jennifer: I’m ready. I missed it. What was the word? Neale: God. We have come here to play God, or if you please, if it sounds softer, to be Divine, or if
you please, if it sounds softer still, to express and experience, to announce and declare, to become and to fulfill the grandest idea that we ever held about who we are, to claim and to embrace and then to demonstrate our true identity. That is what we’ve come here to accomplish, to achieve, to experience, to express and to become.
There’s nothing else going on, and yet if everyone of us became that, we would change the
world. The world around us would change. Your household would change. Your business would change. Your community would change. Your life would change. The lives of all those around you would change, such that they would never forget your having come here.
Jennifer: I want to just say amen, and so it is. Thank you, Neale. I always get a little emotional when I
have a conversation with you, because I can feel my heart opening. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this powerful and lovely conversation. It’s appreciated.
Neale: You’re welcome, Jennifer. Thank you so much for inviting me. See you next time. Jennifer: Yeah. We’ll see you next time, and thanks, everyone, for being part of today’s show. It seems
we always come to these calls as individuals, and in the end, we wind up a united community and united in our intention. We know we make the difference. We matter. You all matter. I love you all so very much. Until next time, everyone, good night. Good night, Neale. Thank you.
Neale: Good night. [End of Discussion]

Internationally Recognized Spiritual Messenger Best Selling Author of the Conversations With God book series NealeDonaldWalsch.com
Neale Donald Walsch is a modern day spiritual messenger whose words continue to touch the world in profound ways. With an early interest in religion and a deeply felt connection to spirituality, Neale spent the majority of his life thriving professionally, yet searching for spiritual meaning before beginning his now famous conversation with God. His With God series of books has been translated into 37 languages, touching millions of lives and inspiring important changes in their day‐to‐day lives. In addition to authoring the renowned With God series, Neale has published 16 other works, as well as a number of video and audio programs. Available throughout the world, each of the CwG dialogue books has made The New York Times Bestseller list, Conversations with God‐Book 1 occupying that list for over two‐and‐a‐half years. The With God Series has redefined God and shifted spiritual paradigms around the globe. In order to deal with the enormous response to his writings, Neale created the Conversations with God Foundation, a non‐profit educational organization dedicated to inspiring the world to help itself move from violence to peace, from confusion to clarity, and from anger to love. Neale's work has taken him from the steps of Machu Picchu in Peru to the steps of the Shinto shrines of Japan, from Red Square in Moscow to St. Peters Square in Vatican City to Tiananmen Square in China. And everywhere he has gone‐from South Africa to Norway, Croatia to The Netherlands, the streets of Zurich to the streets of Seoul, Neale has found a hunger among the people to find a new way to live, at last, in peace and harmony, and he has sought to bring people a new understanding of life and of God which would allow them to experience that.
