Hybrid Evening AA/AB Degree Program
• University of North Carolina: Large 3-year study on flipped classes• “More student engagement and better performance if class flipped”
• Average score on same final cumulative exam as F2F classes increased 5%• 97% of flipped students: “The pre-recorded lectures enhanced my learning”
• Contextual learning & application in class led to greater understanding• Traditional lecturer says: “I’ll never go back. Nature of interaction with
students is completely different. Immediately I saw the value of this
connectiveness & engagement. I had it all wrong before this.”
Hybrid Evening AA/AB Degree Program -- Student Voices:
“You feel isolated when taking a course online, you feel pressed for time in an on-campus class. This class solved both pressures for me.”
“This is my first time in school for 2 years and I didn’t think I could go back because of full-time work. This class allows me to do 80% on my own time and still have a face-to-face class which I (would) miss.”
“Our weekly meeting helps me fully understand what I couldn’t on my own.”
“This…is the only way I will be able to complete all the college courses I need to either obtain an AA or transfer to a four-year college. I feel that the hybrid or even completely online courses are extremely convenient for the working student. Without hybrid evening classes or online classes, I would most likely not have the time to attend college.”
“What isn’t better a little ‘flipped and blended’? I’ll be taking the ENGL 102 fully online course because this was such a great experience. If it goes well, I will likely continue with online courses when available. If it doesn’t go well, I will return to hybrid courses. Fully on-campus classes are not a good fit for me, I’m too old for that nonsense and I work full time.”
“This is my last quarter here at NSCC because of this change to online/hybrid courses. I have transferred to SCCC for winter quarter because they offer far more on-campus classes.”
