ABOUT GITAM UNIVERSITY Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM was founded in 1980 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and industrialists led by Dr. M.V.V.S. Murthi, Former Member of Parliament and popular philanthropist. In August 2007, GITAM acquired the status of a Deemed University u/s 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. The University has started another campus at Hyderabad with the approval of UGC which offers 4-year B.Tech, 5-year dual degree (B.Tech-M.Tech), 2-year MBA and 3-year MCA programmes from 2009-10. Now GITAM University ranks fifth among private universities in India according to a report of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.

IT InfrastructureHBS has been networked with fully operational high speed Wi-Fi 24X7 1000 mbps Internet Connectivity that rates among the best of B-Schools in the country. It helps students to interact online, view all academic information like grades, attendance, etc., and download handouts, lecture notes, presentations and other study material given by the faculty. Classrooms are equipped with LCDs and OHPs for effective learning. The air conditioned computer labs, including the Communication Skills Lab, are equipped with state of the art technology.

Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC)The air conditioned Library & Information Center efficiently caters to the needs of the faculty, students and research scholars. It provides access to online national and international journals, magazines, reports and projects. The Centre subscribes to a large number of journals through Springer link (Business & Economics Journals) EBSCO, Capitaline (Capital Market), Emerald Management Xtra 150 , Proquest, Free Access Journals, Ebrary (38000+ Titles). Digital Engineering and Video Libraries are also accessible to students.

Residential FacilityThe residential facility is set in the tranquil environment of the campus and is highly conducive to academic work. The rooms in the hostels are fully furnished with all modern amenities with 24 Hr Power and Water supply. Other features include a large well furnished Dining Hall, UV-RO water facility, Gymnasium, TV Room, Library, Recreation Centre with many indoor games, spacious playgrounds for outdoor games, solar heating system for uninterrupted hot water supply, Wi-Fi internet facility, round the clock security, and medical assistance and ambulance. Admission into a hostel entails a deposit of Rs. 25,000/- as deposit, of which Rs. 10,000/- shall be refunded after completion of the programme. Monthly expenses are to be borne by inmates on actual basis. The registration for hostel is done on first-come-first serve basis.

Sports Meet“Lakshya” (Intra-mural Athletic Competition) is organized every year on the occasion of the Annual Day Celebrations of the Institute. Track and field events are conducted for individuals and department-wise teams.

Training and PlacementTraining and Placement of students is given top priority. HBS aims to produce competent and humane management professionals. Prior to the current position, Dr. S.S. Prasada Rao was Professor of Accounting and Finance at GITAM Institute of Management and Director - GITAM Centre for Distance Learning, Director - Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Founder Coordinator of BBA (Honors) Programme, Member Secretary of Autonomous Undergraduate Management Programme in GITAM University.

He has been in teaching, research, training and consulting for the past twenty years. He taught Management Accounting, Insurance Management, Financial Management, Strategic Cost Management, Corporate Valuation, Mergers and Acquisitions. He was consulting trainer for ILO-IPEC AP State Based Project on Elimination of Child Labor and Principal Researcher for NTPC-Singrauli.

Dr Prasada Rao is associated with AIMA, Indian Society for Training and Development, Hyderabad Management Association and National HRD Network. Author of two books, he also published and presented several research papers in the areas of Banking, Insurance and Financial Services. He is on the editorial board of GITAM Journal of Management and is a regular reviewer. He is on the academic committees of

many management schools in India. Dr. Prasada Rao conducted several MDPs and served as Resource Person in many EDPs in the area of Accounting & Finance and Project Management for major corporates.

Prof. Koteswara Rao has been in teaching, research and training for the past 40 years. His teaching interests include Banking, General Management, Human Resources Management and Open Distance Learning.

A Fulbright Fellow, Prof. Rao pursued post-doctoral research in Illinois University, USA. His output includes 11 research papers and 21 books on Management, Banking, Sales and Distribution. Prof. Rao served Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University in various capacities such as Chairman, Purchase Committee, Director (Academic), Director (CSTD), Director (Evaluation), Dean and Chairman, Board of Studies, Faculty of Commerce and Management, Head, Dept. of Commerce. He was Director, P.R.R. Group of Academic Institutions, before he joined GITAM University, Hyderabad as Director (Admin) & HoD, Management.

Award’ by the University of Illinios, ‘Best University Teacher Award’ by Government of Andhra Pradesh and ‘Rastriya Gaurav Award’ by India International Friendship Society and included in ‘Who’s Who in the World’, Marquis, New Province, USA. Prof. Rao widely travelled covering many Universities of U.S, Canada and U.K at some of which he is also visiting Professor.

Dr. Y. Manohar has 38 years of experience in the Public Sector steel industry (SAIL, Vizag Steel) in highly successful managerial positions in the areas of Training & Development, Corporate HRD and Marketing. At Andhra University, where he had conducted his doctoral research, he also served as Member, Boards of Studies of Deptt. of Metallurgical Engg., College for Yoga & Health, and Human Resource Management. He is Qualified Assessor for CII-Exim Bank Award for Business Excellence, Qualified Lead Assessor for ISO 9000 Systems and Internal consultant for TQM implementation. He has the distinction of introducing modern HR practices such as PMS, Role & Goal Setting, Six Sigma & TQM, etc. He has done one million hours of training. He served on the Board of RINL, Vizag Steel Plant, a CPSU as Director (Personnel).

Dr Manohar was Board Member of International Federation of Training and Development Organizations (IFTDO), Geneva. He contributed to the growth of Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) in various distinguished capacities such as National President, National Vice President, Chairman, ISTD, Visakhapatnam Chapter, and Regional Vice President (South).

Dr Manohar published 31 papers in different discipline. He was awarded the “Indira Super Achiever Awards”, and is the 1st recipient of such award from PSUs in India, the “Vishal Bharati Gaurav Award” from Delhi Telugu Academy for Excellence in HR field, and the “Most Powerful HR Professionals of India” by World HRD Congress 2010..

Prof.A.Sree Ram has been in Teaching, Research, Consulting and Academic Administration for the past twenty three years. His teaching interests include Quantitative Analysis, Economics, Finance and Entrepreneurship development. His Research interests include Entrepreneurship Development and Behavioral Finance. With rich experience in Research and Consultancy, he completed a minor research project funded by

UGC. Under his guidance six students got M.Phil degrees. He is presently guiding students for their research degrees. He is also co-Author for four Books and published several papers, participated in and conducted National level Workshops and Seminars.

Prof. Sree Ram has been associated with Hyderabad Management Association, A.P Economic Association for the past several years. Prior to Joining HBS he was Director and Professor for MBA Programme at Sir C.R.Reddy Engg College, Eluru. He also worked at Montessori Mahila kalasala, Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada and CESS at Hyderabad.

Dr. U. Devi Prasad is Associate Professor of Marketing in the Hyderabad Business School. He has more than 16 years of experience in teaching and research in the area of marketing. His previous assignments include Co-coordinator for BBM Programme and Head of the Department of Management Studies.

Dr. Prasad has been awarded MBA and Ph. D., in Marketing. The title of his Ph.D. thesis is “Marketing of Fish – A Case Study of Fish Farmers in West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh”. Dr. Prasad has written articles in leading journals and guided academic Projects and supervised Research Surveys. He has organized seminars and workshops at the national level and presented papers in National and International seminars and conferences. Currently he is teaching Customer Relationship Management, Consumer Behavior, Global Marketing and Services Marketing.

Ms. Raavi Radhika has 19 years of experience in teaching Advanced Management Accounting, Costing Accounting, International Financial Management, Business Law, Strategic Management Accounting, Advanced Corporate Accounting, Financial Services, Income tax, wealth tax, customs and Excise. Her doctoral thesis on “Lending by Co-Operative Banks to Priority Sector in Ranga Reddy District” has been submitted to Osmania University recently.

She has published several research papers in national and international publications. She has also presented several papers in National and International Seminars and conferences in the areas of Financial Management and Micro-finance.

Dr M. Jayasree received her doctorate from Andhra University for her research on “the Impact of WTO - TRIPS on Indian Pharmaceutical Industry”, and qualified UGC NET. She has 16 years of teaching experience. Having specialized in Financial Management, She taught Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting, Indian Business Environment, Strategic Financial Management, Financial Institutions, Markets & Derivatives and Merchant Banking and Financial Services, Business Law, Strategic Management Accounting, Advanced Corporate Accounting, Financial Services. She co-established a Commerce Lab in IIMC, Hyderabad. Dr Jayasree presented papers in various national seminars on themes such as “Globalisation & its impact on Mergers and Acquisitions in Pharma Industry”, “Micro financing” and E-Commerce. A forthcoming issue of Economic Challenger is going to publish her paper.

Dr.S.Suman Babu, MBA, Ph.D. Assistant Professor, E-mail: [email protected]

Dr. Suman’s research interests relate to employee performance, employee stress reduction, employee retention and organizational productivity. He applies this knowledge of work-life balance in designing effective models of work-life constructs especially for IT sector. His research has appeared in leading academic journals such as International Journal of Management Sciences, NHRD Network Journal and Indian Journal of Training and Development. He has also presented numerous research papers in National and International Conferences and participated in various training programs and UGC refresher courses. He has rich industrial exposure working for various organizations ranging from electronics to IT in India and abroad. Prior to joining GHBS, he taught SHRM, Performance Management, Research Methodology and Statistical analysis for MBA Part time program at SMS, JNTUH. He is also university top ranker and recipient of JNTU

fellowship to pursue his Full-Time PhD program. At HBS, Dr. Suman teaches OB, HRM, PM, SHRM & Global HRM.

Fakhruddin Sheik MBA; MS; PGDPHM; DISM Lecturer E-mail: [email protected]

Mr Fakhruddin Sheik is an accomplished teacher with varied experience in both academics and industrial world culminating in technology and business arena. He has done his masters in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management from U.K. He has an M.B.A degree in Marketing and Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Marketing. He also holds a diploma in Information Systems Management. Areas of his research include e-procurement and e-markets in Supplier Relationship Management. He was associated with reputed international companies as Supply Chain Analyst. His holistic approach to business enabled him to work on end to end solutions for projects ranging in ERP, SCM, CRM, as a Functional Consultant.

The various subjects he taught at academic institutions include Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Retail Management, Advertising Management. Currently he is teaching Business Process Re-engineering, Sales and Distribution Management.

D.R.P. Chandra Sekhar, M.A., M.Phil., (Ph.D.) Assistant Professor, E-mail: [email protected]

Mr. Chandra Sekhar did his masters in English at University of Hyderabad and received M.Phil. from Maulana Azad National Urdu University and pursuing his Ph.D. on Street Theatre. His research interests include Theatre, Literary Criticism & Theory and Translation. Apart from teaching experience, he served as Communications Coordinator in the voluntary sector for a decade. He edited eco-ethic a newsletter brought out by Indian Network on Ethics and Climate Change and Mannem Lo (In the tribal habitat), a magazine for Adivasis.

Mr Chandra Sekhar teaches Written Analysis and Communication, Managerial Communication and Soft Skills.

MBA PROGRAMMEHBS offers a 2-Year Full Time MBA Programme with dual specialization approved by UGC, AICTE, and MHRD, GoI. The programme is designed to equip young professionals with required knowledge, skills and aptitude that prepare them to take up leadership positions in corporate and non-corporate organizations. Commitment, cooperation, competition, integrity and innovation are the core values instilled in each individual who graduates from HBS.

Programme DurationHBS follows trimester system with the academic calendar beginning in July 2011 and each trimester being of 11-12 weeks duration. At the end of the third trimester, all students are required to undergo compulsory summer internship for 4-6 weeks in industry.

Summer Internship (Field Project)The students work on 4 to 6 weeks of closely guided projects as per the specification of the company under the supervision of the company executive, who in the end provides a feedback to the Programme Director on the performance of the student. Summer internship is essential for the award of the MBA degree.

PedagogyThe pedagogy used is a combination of lectures, case discussions, role plays, presentations, assignments and project work. The primary emphasis is on interactive and participative methods of learning. Faculty for the program is primarily in house but may also include visiting/adjunct faculty. Industry

experts are also invited to share their experiences and to expose students to the current business environment.

Schedule of Class Work The Classes for the MBA programme for the Academic Year 2011 - 13 starts from July 4, 2011 and are held every day starting at 8.45 am extending up to late evening hours, including weekends. Each class is of 75 minutes duration. Attendance in all classes is compulsory.

EvaluationEmphasis is laid on continuous evaluation of a student’s performance throughout the six trimesters, culminating in a CGPA score, over a 10 point scale and finally reflected by a letter grade.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Educational backgroundApplicants to the MBA Program must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent in any discipline. The Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years education after completing higher secondary schooling under the 10+2 system or equivalent. Candidates appearing in the final year of their Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent are also eligible, provided they furnish the proof of having met the minimum eligibility criteria by July 10, 2011.

Candidates ProfileApplicants may be from any discipline such as Engineering, Humanities, Commerce, and Economics, Medicine or any other branch of education. Candidates with relevant work experience as also fresh graduates awaiting results are welcome to apply.

Filled in Applications should reach the PGP Admissions Office of HBS on or before January 15, 2011. Incomplete forms are liable to be rejected summarily.

Admission Test

Admission to the program is through the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management across India. (Refer to CAT Bulletin for further details). HBS will receive the test scores from the IIM for those candidates who have appeared for the CAT and have also applied to HBS for the MBA program. Foreign students and NRI sponsored candidates are also eligible and are required to take the GMAT at a test centre outside India, taken not earlier than November 2008, and submit such scores while applying to HBS. Admission to the program is also made on the basis of ranks obtained in MAT. (Refer to MAT Bulletin for further details).

Selection process

Candidates who have appeared for the CAT 2010 or furnished valid MAT/GMAT score and have applied to HBS will be short listed on the basis of information provided in the application form, CAT scores (sectional and overall) or MAT/GMAT score, educational background, marks in 10th, 12th, graduation and work experience. Only short listed candidates will be called for the final stage of the selection process. Group discussion, personal interview besides other qualitative parameters will constitute the core components of the final stage of the selection process. The objective is to scientifically assess the candidate’s potential for a managerial career.

Test Centres (Group Discussion and Personal Interview)

Besides Hyderabad, the selection process is normally conducted at other centers including Bhubaneswar, Bellary, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Gulbarga, Kozhikode, Patna, Guwahati, Jamshedpur, Raipur, Kolkata, Kathmandu, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Jalpaiguri, Pune, Trivandrum, Tirupathi, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam & Warangal. Candidates should indicate their preferred center(s) for interview in the application form. If a candidate’s preferred centre is not allotted, for any reason, the candidate will be informed of the change. HBS reserves the right to change any of the centers for the selection process, without assigning any reasons.

Admission Offer

A list of successful candidates will be announced on HBS’s website and offer letters will thereafter be dispatched. Successful candidates will have to pay the 1st installment of fee within two weeks of the date of offer, failing which the offer shall stand lapsed and admission offered to the next candidate on the waiting list, without any further intimation.

Mode of PaymentAll the payments have to be made on or before the date mentioned. The fee can be paid in the form of a DD / Pay Order drawn in favor of “GITAM University” payable at Hyderabad.
