Wasserkraft Volk AG is one of the leading manufacturers of small and me-dium-sized HEP systems in the world having made a significant contributiontowards a sustainable future.

In our 30 years of business activity, several hundred small and medium-sizedhydro power plants were manufactured, producing environmentally-friendlyenergy in over 40 countries all over the world.

In May 2000, the ”State-of-the-Art Factory” commenced operations. This isthe first large scale factory in Germany which is fully energy-self-sufficientand operating without any CO2 emissions.

In view of the positive approach to the business development, where manyother business firms suspended their investment activities in the year 2008due to the international financial crisis, Wasserkraft Volk AG put up a newmost modern and highly efficient production plant with a 4000 m2 shopfloor.

As a medium size enterprise, our main focus is only Germany as the loca-tion for factories in view of our social responsibility and obligation towardsthe country and future generations. Last but not least, a great portion of oursuccess comes from our highly motivated, dedicated, devoted and com-mitted work force receiving consistent advance training, education and up-dating in their respective fields in order to render a reliable and persistentservice to our customers.

Profitability and environmental compatibility don’t have to be contradictory:

Hydro power plants are emission-free. No pollution, no CO2, no problemswith waste, low impact to the surrounding nature.

The long life-time of WKV hydro power plants produces eco friendlyelectric energy for generations ahead.

At WKV, conservation of resources begins at the manufacturing stage itself.Our in-house hydro power station produces electric energy required for manufacturing and also feeds the centrifuges on the heating system. Electric Surplus energy is fed into the local mains.

Only about 22 % of the technica l ly useable hydropower potential on earth is currently uti l ized. Reapthe benefit from our knowledge and experience toimprove on this s i tuat ion!

Generating sets based on fossil fuels are available at low cost, resulting shortterm benefits. However, just considering economic aspects, small hydropower plants are unbeatable in the long run:

Natural conditions of water courses is significantly different. Therefore,every order demands an exclusive solution. WKV uses four different tur-bine types to transform hydraulic force into electrical energy:

WKV Pelton turbines

WKV Francis turbines

WKV Turgo turbines

WKV Crossflow turbines.

Each of these turbine types is suitable for a specific operation area: Differentoutput ratings, various head values, highly unsteady watercourses or highcontent of floating refuse. In addition, you get WKV speed controllers, WKVwater level controllers and WKV switchboards. Everything with well-proventechnology “made by WKV AG”.

WKV offers much more than the adaptation of turbine and alternator to thesite conditions. For example, a complete range of specific runner speeds allows a perfect alignment to synchronous alternator speeds.

Common for all products: The first-class quality. In our test laboratory, wehave proved this beyond doubt and so far achieved highest efficiencies.

Degree of protection: IP 23, IP 44 or higher, adapted to operation site and conditions

Design forms: Horizontal or vertical, for elastic coupling to the turbinesor with long shaft and re-inforced bearings for overhung mounting ofthe turbine runner

Bearings: Antifriction or sleeve bearings, optimized for long life-timeand minimum maintenance need

Electromagnetic layout: Voltage and frequency range will be adapted to Grid-Codes and/or to various local mains conditions. Concurrentlythe machines are optimized for high efficiency in the most economicaloperating range.

Not everything has to be brand-new. Restoration, renovation and modernizing of existing power plants

Usually hydro power plants are operated for many decades until the rava-ges of time will require a basic renovation. Accompanying the renovation,mostly a reasonable improvement in system efficiency is requested.

Other power plants are damaged by natural disaster, systems have to bepartly or completely cleaned, repaired or replaced. Often, special buildingconditions or monumental or archaeological protection rules that have to beadhered to can significantly complicate the work at site.

Our special purpose machinery manufacture covers turbines including control system, generators and switchboards. By far, WKV is experiencedand flexible enough to refurbish your power plant for a reliable operationover the coming decades.
